How does water get from your stomach to your sweat glands? Are there a million little aqueducts in your body?
How does water get from your stomach to your sweat glands? Are there a million little aqueducts in your body?
Or does water travel in the bloodstream somehow?
I never thought about this...! I have no clue how water travels throughout the body.
4 AnswersBiology1 decade agoBetter to file tax return on time then 1040X amended? -OR- file a more accurate return late? [Due a Refund]?
Here is my situation: The Fed/state six month extension ends tomorrow (Oct 15th) and I'm *still* not ready. I'm due back a refund from both the Fed and state so I'm not worried about penalties.
Is it better to:
1) Just file my "best 1040" I can tomorrow so that I'm within the six month extension deadline, then file a 1040X in a couple of weeks?
-OR-
2) Just get my "ducks in a row" and eFile (etc.) my tax returns a couple of weeks late to make sure they are more accurate?
In either case will my chance of reaping an audit increase? If you're late there are no penalties, right? (if you're due refunds?)
I'm using a consumer tax software program and I want to have time to have a professional review my return before filing because for the first time I have a rental house and I'm pretty darn sure that my return is inaccurate at this point in time.
3 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoIs there a liability of telling bill collectors our previous tenant's forwarding address?
Bill collectors/utilities are pursing our previous tenants and it's bothering our current tenants in our rental house.
Question: can we legally give the collectors' the previous tenant's forwarding address? (...that they gave us for sending them their security deposit.)
Or, is there a legal or other liability to doing this (are we obligated to protect our previous tenant's privacy rights?)
You see, we figure that will take the heat off the current tenants as the collectors will then have "proof" that the debtors have moved on and are no longer living in our rental.
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoIf I set the date for my automatic mortage payment on the 5th rather than the 1st, will I pay more in the end?
My mortgage bank has given me a date range from which I can choose when the draft my mortgage payment, something like the 1st to the 8th. Over the next 30 years, will I end up paying more interest for my house if I chose, say, the 5th, rather than the 1st? Or does it just not matter at all?
I know that my payment pays for interest "in arrears" so I would image that I would be "five days late" each month and that might add up to a thousand dollars or something over 30 years?
2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoAny proof that not eating after 6pm OR (bigger lunch and smaller dinner combination) helps you lose weight?
Are there any scientific studies showing that you really will lose more weight by moving most of your calories from dinner to lunch or just not eating after 6pm?
My intuition tells me that at night time my metabolism is slower resting at home and going to sleep... so shouldn't we pig out at breakfast and then as the day goes on we eat less and less?
...OR DOES IT JUST NOT MATTER **WHEN** WE EAT?
As long as the same number of calories is consumed? In other words, is it beneficial to TIME and PLAN our calories around a schedule of maximum metabolic rate?
Put another way, if two people eat the exact same calories a day, will one lose more weight of all calories are consumed at breakfast vs. dinner???
9 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoCan I LEGALLY add to a RENTAL CONTRACT to keep WATER & ELECTRICITY on TWO DAYS past move out? North Carolina?
We have a house for rent. I'm creating the next rental contract for our next tenant. It would be very desirable for us as owners to keep the previous tenant's power and electricity on for an extra two days so that we can clean, power wash, and have professional carpet cleaners do their thing. Is it legal to add this to our contract?:
Initial Here:
[ ] You agree to keep the power and water turned on for two days past your move out date. In turn we will pay you $5/day for each service. A total of $20 additional dollars will be added to your security deposit when returned to cover the reasonable use of these utilities for the extra two days.
As owners, if we don't do this they we'd have to put the water and power in our billing name for just two days and pay $20-$60 in connect charges.
3 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoRule of thumb Average earnings per impression for website AdSense or affiliate? $.01? .001? per page view?
For a blog or forum, how much can a page owner expect to earn via Google AdSense/Amazon affiliate or other affiliate program for each page view? For average? Semi-targeted ad... like most sites
Is it a penny to page view?
1/10 of penny per page view?
I'm hoping to get 1,000 page views per month and wondering what the Rule of Thumb is... there must be an average that people use?
3 AnswersOther - Advertising & Marketing1 decade agoReceived "Motion to Assume Executory Contract(s) and Unexpired Leases" from tenant filing Ch. 13 bankruptcy?
We have an investment property and apparently our tenant just filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy.
We just received this letter from their lawyer with "Motion to Assume Executory Contract(s) and Unexpired Leases" checked off:
Assume or Reject: Assume
Amount of Arrearage paid in Plan: 0.00
I'm guessing that we're just getting this form as a formality because our tenant's rent is paid up (doesn't owe us anything).
We are wondering what this means? Hopefully she'll still pay her rent going forward.
2 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoFAIR HOUSING ACT: If I discriminate, what is worst that can happen? Get sued? Get fined? What penalties?
We are considering renting a room in our home. We have two young daughters. We don't want to rent to men.
I hear it's illegal to state a preference in our housing ad on Craigslist or elsewhere.
What are the penalties? Can you get thrown in jail? ;)
Have there been any real cases brought against home owners for not wanting to rent to certain people? (I can imagine cases against companies.) Does someone have to get "ticked off" enough to complain to the federal government? With our country falling apart are the "feds" really going to allocate resources to punish me because I won't rent to a man to protect our daughters???
Ideally we'd like a non-smoking female college student but don't know how to word the ad to not get in trouble!
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoCalling all MBAs! Amazon Super Saver: **HOW** can Jeff Bezos afford to give away free shipping?
How does Amazon give away free shipping? Does that mean their margins really are large, generally? Is this practice a loss-leader; do they lose money every time someone orders product > 25 bucks?
I don't want to know how fast the shipping is or if you've had good experience with it--also please don't guess.
2 AnswersCorporations1 decade agoWhat is faster? Intel Celeron Processor 900 vs. AMD Athlon II dual-core processor M320?
Is there any way to really know which is faster? The AMD is $100 more and wondering if it's worth the extra expense:
HP G71-329WM Laptop PC:
Intel Celeron Processor 900
Provides 2.2GHz speed, an 800MB frontside bus, and 1MB L2 cache
HP Pavilion dv7-3069wm MediaSmart Laptop PC:
2.1GHz AMD Athlon II dual-core processor M320
Designed specifically for notebook PCs, AMD delivers enhanced performance and battery life with 1MB Level 2 Cache and up to 3.2GT/s System bus
The AMD is .1 slower but it's dual core. Please help me!
Thanks for your opinion.

6 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhat in the WORLD could be clogging my PIPES? Crawlspace/PVC/Half the House?
I really need input. I've been fighting this problem for a week now and am pulling out my hair.
I have a house with a crawlspace with a ~4" PVC drain pipe going from one end to the other. 1/2 the house is backed up (master bath, laundry, and hall bath). I opened the clean out on the OTHER side of the house downstream and it's clear. So, I'm guessing there is a clog in the principal 4" PVC drain pipe upstream. It must be in the principal 4" pipe to affect multiple drains, right?
What in the world could be blocking a 4" pipe??? There are no roots... I can see the entire pipe. Unfortunately there is not a clean out on the far side of the house where the blocked drains are.
I undid the piping under the MB sink but for some odd reason can't get a sink snake down, only 4' in. I'm an amateur yet it should be easy to snake at this point as I can see there are no hard turns beneath the MB sink.
Can I or SHOULD I use the most powerful chemical in my PVC from Home Depot/Lowes? Any recommendations?
The 4" principal pipe is horizontal. I can't imagine toilet paper or BM stopping 4" of pipe???
I've been avoiding calling plumber as $$$ is really tight.
Any ideas/suggestions?

6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWould YOU lift carpet off tack strips of 2'x10' section of bedroom carpeting wet from toilet?
We had a sewer backup this weekend Saturday morning... 60 hours have already passed... would YOU lift the carpet off the tack strips off on that side of the bedroom and replace or at least dry the padding? It's on a wood sub-floor above crawlspace.
I'm worried about mold and long-term damage.
We've dabbed up water with beach towels and tried to get as much water out with residential steam cleaner so much that carpeting now feels dry but I worry about moisture in pad.
I guess this is best question: If any carpet gets completely sogged... esp. with toilet water (grey?) does it ALWAYS mean you have to pull up carpet and replace or at least dry the padding?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoNice Dining Room Table: Water rings from glasses. (1) How Fix? (2) How Protect?
We purchased a very nice used dining room table set for $1K.
Now we've got 6 or 7 water rings. I guess we don't know how to protect our furniture?
The table has nice textures and patterns. I wonder if we could sand out the water rings we've created? What is the best technique?
Second, I don't want to put down plastic or glass (we'd have to buy THREE different versions depending on how many leaves we put in at any given time to lengthen it). Is there an oil or chemical we can put in to seal the wood so the condensation from the glasses no longer puts water rings on the table?
5 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoIs a tree really dead if it has *some* growth on it?
My neighbor wants me to cut down my tree because he says it's dead. It looks pretty dead to me, too, but there is one small area of green growth and leaves. Is it dead?
What's the chance it will fall down soon?
2 AnswersBotany1 decade agoDaughter spending 2-3 hrs/day doing AP Math homework in MIDDLE SCHOOL/JR. HIGH... is it worth it?
I'm a busy dad and my daughter is spending a great deal of time doing math homework every day... sometimes as much as three hours! and it's hard stuff (word problems) so I have to help her.
She kinda gets it but needs my help to progress through the problem stages.
She wants to be a Dr. when she grows up which doesn't really use math. I'm wondering if she should drop back to the normal math level since this is taking so much of my time?
Dropping back to normal math might save me hundreds of hours over the next five years until she graduates.
8 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoWould *you* store 40 boxes under your house in your crawlspace? Can you foresee any problems with doing that?
I want to save cardboard moving boxes for the next time we move... I don't even want to "crush" them down so that I'll have to re-tape them later.
I'm thinking of putting them under my house.
I have a three foot (3') crawlspace with spiders, etc. No known termites or mice or other creatures down there.
There is lose plastic covering the dirt and insulation above.
Is it stupid to put them down there or should they be okay for ten years? It's a lot more work to put them in the attic.
Could mice start living in them? Is cardboard food for some creatures?
6 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoWe own a dog and a cat; Every time I touch them I feel like I need to wash my hands? Do I need to? Paranoid?
They don't have fleas. Are there other germs or living creatures/insects/microscopic beings that I need to be concerned about that I might catch something from or they might start living on/in me?
Or am I just a germ-o-phobe?
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoLawn mower can't pull cord... gives lots of resistance... cord won't go back in?
The lawn mower just died.
It's EXTREMELY difficult to pull the cord and now the cord won't even coil back in.. so it's all the way out.
My first thought was that, oh, dummy, it died w/o any engine oil and it's frozen because I've never added oil. I checked the dip stick and there appears to be oil in there.
What could the problem be?
It's a two year old budget gas lawn mower from WalMart.
