  • How do i top water fish better?

I have been using a jitterbug and a weedless frog recently and getting the bites havent been an issue its keeping them on the hook. I never set the hook to the strike i let them pull it first then a small side ways set, I never use a massive set on anything as i've found it to be more detrimental when landing the fish. I've hooked up with the fish and fight them a little bit but i always seem to lose the fish as I near the boat. I don't know if it is the quality of hook i am using or if there is something else. My buddy who I fish with cannot figure out my mistake as he is doing the same things and has watched me but he lands the fish and I do not. Top water is a relatively new technique to me so any help would be appreciated

  • what type of rod is best for me? And what reel is best?

Currently i use all spinning rods, however i would like to try a baitcaster. I do a lot of pike and bass fishing with some catfishing, i have a large pole for that though. I'm looking on getting a new pole and i really dont know what to buy. I do a lot of fishing with swim baits and spinners. But i also do some topwater and jigs. I really want a rood and a reel that are very versatile to weights of lures and has good sensitivity. right now money isnt a large issue so buying a combo isnt really what i was looking for but if anyone has one in mind then thats fine too. I'm from michigan and when i top water i do run into a lot of lily pads, i dont know if that will help or not. Thnk you any help would be appreciated.

  • I saw a braided line that was 20 lb test but it said equivalent to 12lb mono test line what does that mean?

Does this refer to the actual strength of the line? and if so why is it different or is it referring to the diameter of the line? I'm fairly new to serious fishing, like i've been fishing since i was little but this is the first time i am targeting specific species and looking at my own gear any help would be of great help.
