  • 80% OF DEMOCRATS ARE CLUELESS --?

Does anyone know the origin of the quote alleged to be by James Carvell?

Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology. The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.

Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality.

What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.

The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans.

Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”

  • how to find out information about a relative?

I never met my uncle. I know his name, I know his date of birth.(12 January, 1909 in Vinta, Oklahoma) I know that when he was 11-ish he was injured (as in head injury) and was never "normal" again. I know that after his mother's death in 1929 the family put him somewhere (as in mental hospital). My dad said he visited him once, but never went back again. The family moved back and forth over the boarder between Missouri and Kansas, (Mostly Crawford County) so wherever they put my uncle, it would have been in Missouri or Kansas. Anything I can learn about this uncle would be more than I know now. Where do I begin to search out information on him? All the information I find on him in family and public records lists his name and date of birth only.

  • pembroke vs cardigan corgi (corgi lovers only answer please)?

I have a corgi mix dog. He's getting older now and I'm thinking.... well I won't say what I'm thinking. I never thought I liked corgis, this one was forced on me. I think he's a pembroke because he has no tail. Mix remember. I hear that the pembroke and the cardigan are two different breeds... like austrailan and german shepherds are different breeds. The things I like about this dog: he is very smart, easy to train, I believe he has even learned to read certain words. He is VERY expressive and seems to want to talk.. he understands a huge number of words, and I can talk in full sentences. Like when I discussed with him that I would not tolerate his stealing of certain personal items of mine.... I showed him the item, told him he absolutely HAD to leave it alone... and he has for years now... now more chewed... certain personal items.

So here is the question: In the future, when I get a corgi puppy: Do I want a pembroke or a cardigan and why? Other than the tail (are they naturally short or do the tails get docked?) what are the differences between the pembroke and the cardigan corgi?

  • In the San Francisco Bay Area, is there a place where the road goes under the bay and cars drive through it?

I remember riding in the car with my Dad. We went into a tunnel that seemed VERY long (remember though, I was very little). My Dad said we were in a tunnel UNDER the bay, and above the tunnel there was water. I cannot find such a thing on a map.....IS there somewhere in the SF Bay Area where the road goes under part of the bay in a tunnel that cars drive in? Was there in the past? This event I remember would have been between 1958 and 1964. Don't tell me my Daddy lied to me. :-) though he was known for his stories.

  • could my friend have Alzheimers?

I've known her 15 + years, she's always been a bit "goofy" last few years increasingly different. Several times a week someone breaks into her house and steals something....then she finds it and says they broke into her house and put it back???? Everything is drama and trauma...well, shes always been a little that way, but lately...she will argue a point that just cannot be true and reject all solutions as unworkable.....her husband, for example, flew 1000+ miles, broke into her house stole paperwork out of her file cabinet, without damaging the locks, just to cause trouble. She rejected the idea that the bank and the IRS could provide her with copies. I don't know the resolution, I backed off. And can she really be unaware that fire hydrants are connected to water for the use of the fire department? She told me every car she has ever owned had a sun roof, including the one she has now... ok, I looked....where do they hide sun roofs these days? I thought all sun roofs were visible when you looked at the top of the car....its a '90s Carolla (sp? by Toyota) and she says none of her cars ever had a blind spot and expressed concern that I said mine did. I quit riding with her years ago and following her recently, I'm thinking I should contact the DMV, Last time I rode in her car she drove way fast right on the bumper of a city bus on the freeway, then complained she couldn't see the road signs....she makes frequent comments that she can't see as well as I can, but she won't wear her glasses. Now she never signals, changes lanes for no reason, goes through solidly red lights, honks if the car in front of her doesn't instantly go when the light turns green. She still drives way fast. There has been a multi-month saga about the phone, involving changing mobile carriers several times, and she canceled her landline (I don't know why) last time she canceled her mobile phone all together because she couldn't work the phone she got, and then wanted her landline back and was mad she couldn't have her old number back....everything is like that now. She is not eating properly, whole bag of cookies, whole bag of chips, blames her weight gain on her medication..yes, it has that side effect, but so does a bag of oreos, and one is controllable to some extent. She complains about not having enough money to pay her rent....but bought all new towels and flatwear because she "needed new ones" She has always handled her finances more or less sensibly before. No one thing really, and shes always been a little this way....but I'm not even telling everything here. Plus, her mom had Alzheimer's and her sister is recently diagnosed, family history-wise, its definitely a possibility, and being in her late 60s...its been known to start younger and some of her ditsiness could have been early symptoms well covered up. She has had 2 car wrecks since I knew her one "that lady ran into me" was many years ago, the second about 3 years ago. She tried to blame the road and the darkness, but she hit mailboxes and a car parked in a driveway, and she had driven the route for a year, I drove it at night just to see, it was clearly marked. Its like all the old ditsiness, but 100x worse, plus new stuff... I want you to tell me I'm being silly, I don't have to do what I think I have to. And failing that, do you have any good ideas? She is estranged from most of her family, there is one son I know how to contact, who still is in contact with her, somewhat infrequently, though they are in the same town. She is oriented to her name, where she is at, date, that kind of stuff... I have not really done a full mental status evaluation on her... perhaps I should. I'll take her to lunch, with a friend, we will see how she does with the standard questions....but please do answer, this is only one small idea with no follow up

  • physiologically, what's going on?

Sometimes my weird work/sleep schedule means I either forget to eat or am just not hungry and don't eat for 24 or more hours. Then when I do eat, I get "sick". Sweaty, jittery/quivery and a bit queezy. Its rather like the symptoms of low blood sugar, except I just ate. I know eating more regularly would prevent the problem., I'm trying. I would like to understand the physiology, and is there a name for it.

  • Dream of the White Horses?

I saw a movie, back in the early 1970s. Near as I can remember it was called The Dream of the White Horses. The name may not be exactly that. It was film of the white horses of Carmague in Southern France, running through the marshy land. It was quite beautiful, set to music. There was no dialogue that I can remember. Is anyone familiar with this film? Know where to get a copy?

  • San Bruno gas main explosion?

I never much thought of it before. Now I'm concerned. I know one place where there is a gas main..... here on google maps: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.323433,-121....

    http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.323514,-121....

If you look at the street view, that sign there warns of a gas line....a couple of times sitting at that light I've discussed it with a friend....that it would take out a large chunk of that area if something ever happened to cause an explosion. But it is several miles from home and I'm only at that site a few minutes at a time a few times a month. But now it occurs to me....the pipeline goes somewhere... does it run along Lawrence Expressway? Are we driving along a pipeline that (like San Bruno) could conceivably explode at any given moment? We use a lot of gas in this area, where do the pipes run? Is there a map of them somewhere? Could my house be sitting atop a main pipe like that too? How can you tell? The sign in the street view of the map is the only one I have ever seen, but I know the pipe must run for miles and miles in two or more directions.

  • REALLY bad movie, it was about walking talking mushroom people. Any idea what it is called?

It was late at night, my friend and I were watching movies on Comcast On Demand... a free movie (not really worth its price) everyone dressed up as mushrooms, faces sticking out below the mushroom caps. The title induced my friend to say "I have to see what this is about" the content was such that I was saying "no, no change it I can't take this any more" but we were both laughing hysterically (at each other not so much the movie) and we couldn't work the remote. No neither of us were chemically enhanced, you wouldn't want to see that, though it might have helped the movie. I think it was made in the 1970s, sci fi, sort of reminiscent of the style of Buckaroo Banzai, or Dr. Who-ish, but both of those were FAR better. Not Japanese, not animated..real actors in bad cloth mushroom costumes and what I could see of them they were American or northern European. Maybe it was British? I wish I could tell you some of the plot but I'm not sure there was one, at least I didn't figure it out.

  • how to copy/save you tube videos?

There are a few videos on you tube that I want to keep a copy of in case the person deletes them. Its a long story, I don't want to go into it, I have no plans to profit from them or to use them except for one very narrow purpose, I don't want them for any illegal or nefarious purposes, I think the person may delete them.... is there a way that I can copy a you tube video to a disk to save it? If yes, how would I do it.? If it is a major legal no-no, please say so, it is not my intent to commit a crime.

  • what is the name of this movie?

Two actually... the first was was quite good... baby found on a cruise ship, adopted by a crewman in the engine room...grew up on the ship and was never off the ship. Now many years later the ship is scheduled to be destroyed and a man goes on the ship to see if the man (the baby raised on the ship) is still there... whole thing is in retrospective... one sceen stands out is the man is playing piano, there is a storm and he releases the bolts and he and the piano are rolling wildly around the ballroom.....I would like to see it again, but have no idea what it was called

second movie....so hideously stupid I now use it as a baseline of movie badness, sci fi...sorta, though I doubt any genre would be willing to claim it, the mushroom movie, took place underground and all the characters were all mushrooms.... people in mushroom costumes..... I think you would have to be on some kind of special herb to understand the movie.... no one believes me that it exists and knowing the name of it would help
