  • how do lower teams compete in the Premier League?

I'm American, and find European football clubs fascinating, but it seems like the same ones are ALWAYS at the top, especially in England - Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal.

Is there draft that lets the lower teams have first pick, or a salary cap or anything?

  • is there a good website to find liquors that mix with?

whatever you have lying around? I can't seem to find anything, and think it would be quite useful. Like if you just have some juice or something you want to get rid of, and are having a party, and are adventurous, you could figure out what kind of alcohol to buy.

  • non-Christians, which is more important?

to your not being a Christian? The scientific/historic inaccuracies of the Bible, or the inaccuracy of the moral teachings?

For me, it was the science thing at first, but having actually read the Gospels, I have to say the moral teachings aren't that impressive either. Then there's the whole gay-bashing thing.

So, just wondering. Christians can answer which aspect brought them to it as well if they want.

Can anyone give me the day to day stuff on what a pharmacists job entails? And are there other options besides working at a pharmacy? Oh and how many years of schooling does it take?

  • what exactly do most lawyers DO?

I'm wondering if anyone could give me basic descriptions of day to day stuff. Like, for example, if someone works at the ACLU (no jokes please, just an example), what do they actually do all day?

  • Christians - question about role of government?

I'm kicking around a story idea right now and would like your opinions. And atheist liberals as well, who support goverment programs for "moral reasons".

Do you think that God demands or maybe just prefers that we make moral decisions with total FREE WILL? Meaning, does the threat of government (human) punishment make moral choices less meaningful? Do you ever wonder that God finds it hard to judge our character because we have so many worldly physical deterrences from making bad spiritual choices?

If I held a gun to your head (which in a way the goverment does with threats of prison), and told you to give your money to charity or i'd kill you, and you did, would you have made a moral choice that God would reward, or is it meaningless to Him?

I'm wondering how this affects your beliefs on government enforcement of "moral" decisions like not doing drugs, gambling, funding welfare programs etc.

Please try to be smart, and stay on topic about force and morality.

  • Why do crazy religious people get their own compounds?

Libertarians have been trying for years to create their own communities, but have gotten nowhere. Maybe we should create a religion that necessitates freedom, and try to get the government off our backs that way.

More seriously, what exactly are the laws about starting an isolated community like those Mormons had?

  • how do soldiers feel about military t-shirts?

being worn by people who have never had anything to do with the military? I'm just wondering, is it viewed as something misleading, or do they appreciate the respect? Especially if someone disagrees with the Iraq War, but supports the troops in general.

Also, do people who wear them ever get dirty looks or thanked for serving out of the blue?

I'm talking about the basic shirts that just say "Army" or whatever.

  • are there any statists out there?

people who believe in liberal economic policies and conservative social policies? Are there any websites dedicated to this ideology? No jokes about Nazis or socialists, if you can help it. I'm just curious.

And no i'm not loking to join them, i'm pretty much the opposite but i always find people who will defend some statist policies but never a majority of them. Are people just that inconsistent?

  • Christians, what is your opinion...?

I read an interesting article (from the Objectivist point of view), it was mainly attacking environmentalism, but it made the point of how strange the story of Eden really is, namely that Adam and Eve's lives in the Garden are/were viewed as perfection.

As far as I know, they had things done for them, no wants, no needs, no goals, no free or creative thoughts. Is this accurate? If so, what do you think that would be like? Would you want to have lived in Eden before sin or would it be too boring for you?

I find an interesting point that human lives aren't worth much without something to strive for, and it seems Adam and Eve had lives that lacked goals. Thoughts?

  • pro-lifers, do you ever consider?

not approaching the issue in terms of the morality of the act, but the pragmatism of the government being involved?

I've seen some abortion questions recently where the pro-lifers just say it's murder or that it shouldn't be allowed as a way to duck responsibility (which i understand), but that's really just an opinion at the end of the day. I mean aren't conservatives the ones who talk about limited government? Saving lives is great, but what guarentees that making abortion illegal will reduce the number of abortions? It might just push them underground, where they'd be less safe. Do you feel like our country would gain something just from not condoning the act, even if the actual number of fetuses saved was none?

How much should conservatives focus on other ways to stop abortion, like reducing poverty and rape, increasing adoption and sex ed (which i think would appeal to abroader base)?

btw, i'm mostly libertarian, and not particularly religious if it matters.

  • tough one for Christians?

let me ask you - let's say i do something that Christianity considers wrong (i'm seriously being hypothetical, but maybe a small lie or drug use or whatever it may be).

    1. Christian doctrine says that it is sin, and i need to be saved from it right?

    2. But to be saved, i need to ask for it right?

    3. And to ask for it, presumably i need to believe i've sinned and need forgiveness right?

    4. So what if i just don't feel bad about what i've done? Like really deep down don't feel bad? I mean i did it, so i didn't feel bad about it first. And let's say it didn't hurt me at all, so i don't regret it. I assume God doesn't want me to pretend to be broken up about it, so it's kind of a dead end right?

    What's the point?

  • i'm feeling weird, please convert me to christianity?

christians, what is your absolute best argument for why i should become one? I'm not joining a church, or ditching evolution, but i'm interested why should i put my faith in your religion instead of the casual universalist agnosticism i currently have?

  • info on European political parties?

can anyone explain the philosophical differences between parties in various countries in Europe? I'm specifically interested in whether there are any who line up with the US Libertarian Party; i understand that in most of the world that philosophy is still called liberalism, so for example is the UK Liberal Party libertarian?

  • A philosophical question for theists?

I'm just curious, for the people out there who not only believe in some sort of deity, but believe specific things about it (for example that it inspired certain holy books, that it performs miracles etc)

Have you ever wondered if it could just be some sort of cosmic prankster type? One that purposely inspired different religions trying to get them to fight, or uses miracles to mess with people, or is just generally treating the universe like an ant farm?

I promise i have no ulterior motives with this question, i just want to know how theists ultimately decide that they have God figured out, please try to give more than just the "i don't know, i just have faith" answer if you can.

  • why don't human beings live in packs?

By that i mean adults in group relationships (like 4 or five adults all in one committed relationship). It seems to me like this would be better for everyone, more parents for kids, more incomes for financial stability, etc. The only downside would be the potential jealousy of smaller relationships developing. What are your thoughts?

  • when you file for unemployment,?

how much checking does the unemployment office do? I quit my job to go to school, but then it didn't work out at the last second so i'm filing. It's a seasonal job that would have laid me off anyway, so i put that i was laid off on the claim. Is that going to matter at all?
