5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhich formal fallacy(s) cover "he who has told a lie once can never tell the truth"?
There would seem to be Argument from Spite, Ad Hominem, and maybe a touch of No True Scotsman.
Is there a specific name for this sort of fallacy, or is it just a combination of other fallacies?
How would one express this concept in Latin?
Thank you in advance for any help or guidance you can give me.
6 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoCould the USA electorate stomach electing an openly atheist president?
Despite the First Amendment USA seems to be by far the most theocratic of all the major western nations. Even here in the UK where we have an established church we now have an openly atheist Deputy Prime Minister.
Could some be elected to the USA Presidency if they admitted they didn't believe in god? Could they if the believed in god but were any religion other than Christian?
28 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is the pentagram seen as evil?
It is such a simple but beautiful geometric construction. It is such a useful tool in learning how to use a pair of compasses for navigation.
I know many religious groups consider the symbol to be "evil" but why?
It is mathematically beautiful and a useful tool for orientiering.
Where does the idea it represents some form of evil come from.
Is it just some form of old wives tale or perhaps does it go back to the Dark Ages when allowing those outside of monasteries or the priesthood to learn to read was considered a threat to the churches position never mind allowing people to lean about maths?
I don't know. Does anyone know the history of this symbol?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould we actively celebrate apostasy?
Following on from this question: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200...
Given that it seems most atheists have grown up within a religious or partially religious family and given that some Christian sects will actively ostracise apostates and that for former Muslims the outlook can at times be even bleaker. Should there be some sort of annual day for those of us who have thrown of the shackles of religion and now have intellectual freedom to celebrate it, and maybe to encourage people who are wavering to do the same?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes this answer the creation vs. evolution debate once and for all?
"In a severe blow to the credibility of evolutionary science, biologist Richard Dawkins admitted today that Darwin’s theory of evolution could offer no rational explanation..."
