Did your parents expose you to religion?
My parents seemed to wait a long time. One day when I was well into my teenage years they took me to a Catholic mass and I was very confused by rituals that they assumed that I knew already. I never went up to eat the crackers and drink the wine. We don't communicate all that much but I assumed that they worried that I wouldn't be capable of comprehending my peers without a context so they tried to expose me a little too late.
Did anyone else have this experience? I met a few people that witnessed their parents' crisis of faith and the skipping among several churches but nothing as apathetic as my parent's attempt to expose me to faith.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoDo Mormons believe homosexuality is a sin?
I don't know much about Mormon teachings. From what I've heard about Mitt Romney he is a devout Mormon and seems friendly towards the homosexual community. I know he has a reputation as sort of a weather vane on almost every issue but I can't imagine he would compromise his view on a deeply held religious view.

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoAre there any fundamentalist Christians in neuroscience?
I"m curious to know if there are any serious scientists that are able to maintain the double-think that is required to both publish in respectable scientific literature and maintain a fundamentalist viewpoint.
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat was the point again?
God was like: Yo, you're out of the Garden of Eden. Then he was like F it I'm flooding the whole place. Then He was like this is my son, yo. You'll kill him for your sins. Then I'll be back in a couple thousand years or so to end all of your lives as you know them. Catch you laters, biatches!
And that's where society is according to Christians? We're just waiting around?

They always seem so half @ssed. I'm no genius but I think if I had a mind to I could come up with something better than these flunkies.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDid people have morals before the bible was written?
There are some that claim that the bible was divinely inspired by God and that it became the main written source of morality for humanity. Was there any source of morality prior to the writing of the bible? Did they distribute pamphlets containing the Ten Commandments? An oral tradition, maybe? Did people wander around aimlessly until someone wrote the bible and read it to them (most people were probably illiterate)?
I seem to recall from history classes that people lived in communities prior to the writing of the bible and in areas (such as North America) for long periods without knowing about the bible. Doesn't this imply some sort of morality? How can you form a functional society without morality?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPromiscuous women cause earthquakes?
''Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,'' Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader.
''We cannot invent a system that prevents earthquakes, but God has created this system and that is to avoid sins, to pray, to seek forgiveness, pay alms and self-sacrifice,''

11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes God take vengeance on parents that have abortions?
by making their other children disabled? I'm thinking that this must be a common thought process among Christians or at least Christians in Virginia. Why would they elect someone with views like this?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoGood comedians?......?
I'm asking this because I've found that many of the comedians that I find funny are atheists (David Cross, Marc Maron, Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black, George Carlin, Eddie Izzard, to a certain extent Bill Mahr). I was wondering if anyone can list any other comedians along these lines that they would recommend.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoMemory erasure when you go to heaven?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201002...
Some people answered that your memory gets erased when you go to heaven. Is this a common belief in Christianity? Since we as humans are more or less a collection of memories and feelings about past experiences how can you really say "I" am going to heaven if you don't remember anything about your life? Do people that go to Hell have their memories erased so they don't remember why they were sent to Hell?
