I have taken one semester of college (community college, accredited) and have changed my major from human services to sociology. I used to want to pursue counseling (AS certificate) then, sociology to transfer to state college and earn a bachelor degree. Last night I spoke with two retired teachers from Orange county, who said sociology won't really "cut-it" for teaching at middle school or higher level, that I should rather, pursue a core degree in science, math, history or English. Is this an accurate statement? I chose sociology because it requires statistics and history classes, but I don't want to be disregarded out-of-hand. Thanks for your time!
