"Nature is not sentimental." Books are my passion. Reading them, writing them, discussing them. Any career in the literature field would suit me. Author, book critic, even editor. Unfortunately, I can't spell worth a darn. spell-check is one of my best friends. I love to read dystopian sci-fi, or alternate universe novels (but no aliens. Ever. I don't like books with aliens.) My dream is to live in a mansion in the clouds, where I will be able to watch over the world while writing and reading in a giant, colorful library. If this goal proves unattainable, I guess I will settle for owning a nice little book store where I can organize the books in any way I see fit. ^-^ (\__/) ( -'.'- ) This is Bunny. • What name could "Gem" be short for?

I want to call a character "Gem," but I can't think of what I want her full name to be. I don't want "Gem" to be her full name, and I don't like the name "Gemini" for her. Any suggestions?

  • Characters with powers?

I've been thinking about superpowers/ magic abilities for some characters.

Each character in my plot has a power, and there's another character with the opposite ability

    ex:

seeing the future vs. seeing the past,

hearing people's thoughts vs. letting others hear your thoughts

affecting people's emotions vs. affecting their physical health

    etc...

and I'm trying to figure out what is the opposite of being able to move objects with you mind (telekinesis). In your opinion, what is the "opposite power" or telekinesis? If anyone can help, I'd *really* appreciate it. If it were even just a related power, could you help me out?

--and by the way, I just realized how... uncool... this idea sounds when written out, but please don't let that keep you from answering!--

  • What is the opposite of this?

I've been thinking about superpowers/ magic abilities, and I'm trying to figure out what is the opposite of being able to move objects with you mind. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

If i was going by this pattern:

seeing the future vs. seeing the past,

hearing people's thoughts vs. letting others hear your thoughts

healing people vs. making people unwell

    etc...

What would be the opposite of moving objects with your mind (telekinesis)?

  • Can anyone recommend some good romance novels told from the boy's POV?

I've read some good romances, but not in a while, and never a good one told from the guy's point of view. So, I would really love a romance told from the male POV.

I'm fifteen, and I'm not really into authors like Nicholas Sparks (I don't really want a sad ending.) I'm just really in the mood for a really sweet romance, with lots of kissing and sweet words. (haha, I feel lame even saying that, lol)

(I don't want to get into the "Twilight" debate, but yes, something like that general idea, but without vampires and such. I repeat, pleeaasse, no vampires.)

Thanks in advance for any recommendations! (even if it's not from the guys POV, it's alright, but if it is, bonus points!)

  • Can anyone name some good teen books similar to these?

I feel like I have read all the good books out there! Can anyone recommend any books similar to any of the following books and authors:

-->Unwind - Neal Shusterman (I've read almost all of his books, and they were all amazing, but Unwind was definitely the best.)

-->Uglies series - Scott Westerfeld (Same applies as with Unwind. I've read all of his books.)

-->The Knife of Never Letting Go - Patrick Ness

-->The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins

-->The House of the Scorpion - Nancy Farmer

--> The Outsiders - SE Hinton

--> Blade: Playing Dead - Tim Bowler

and some authors whose books and styles I've really enjoyed:

    -->Barry Lyga

    -->Pete Hautmen

    -->Todd Strasser

If anyone can recommend some good books or authors similar to these, I would be so grateful!

I would also really appreciate anyone who includes a little bit about the books that they recommend, but you don't have to.

(I'm a fifteen year old girl, but I'm willing to read almost anything except for fantasy. Fantasy just doesn't really float my boat :)

    Thank you so much!

  • What can I do to make myself fall asleep at nights?

No matter how early I try to go to bed, or how tired I am from the day before, I cannot get to sleep until around midnight at the earliest.

It doesn't matter what time I try to fall asleep, because it always takes *hours* for my mind to slow down enough to fall asleep, even if I'm physically exhausted.

How can I calm my head down enough to fall asleep? I'm starting high-school in a month, and I don't want to go to school on five hours of sleep. Please help?

  • Question about "The Road," by Cormack McCarthy?

I'm 14, and I think that this book sounds *really* good, but I'm worried that I'm too young to read it.

I'm a pretty advanced reader, so I'm not worried about the writing, I'm worried about the plot.

I don't mind violence or a little creepiness, but is it something that will completely disturb me? Will it leave me shuddering in horror after reading it?

For example, I can't read Stephen King novels because they creep me out, but I read Battle Royale without any problems.

Would you let your 14-year-old read The Road?

Thanks to all who answer, and please don't tell me that I should decide this myself. I'm just curious what others think. Thank you!

  • Writers Quiz [20 characters]?

I'm bored, so I decided to make a quiz for all writers in the B&A section.

1.) Where does most of your inspiration for your writing come from?

2.) Specifically, where did you get the inspiration for your most recent piece of writing?

3.) Where/When do you do most of your planning (not specifically your writing, just working out plot issues and stuff)?

4.) Do you listen to music while you write?

5.) What is your favorite part of writing? (ex: developing characters, finished the piece, coming up with ideas, etc.)

6.) What is your favorite type of scene to write?

7.) Do you let other people read your writing while you're working on it?8.) Is there something about books that you didn't really appreciate until you started writing yourself?

9.) Do you write as a hobby, or do you feel that writing could actually be what you do for the rest of your life?

  • I hve to decide which book to buy. Please help?

I only have enough to buy on of these books, and none of them are available at my library. If you can tell me whether or not you've liked any of these, or which one you think I should get, I would really appreciate it.

    My choices are:

    Snitch - Allisonvan Diepen

Perfect Chemistry - Simon Ekeles (I think that's her last name...)

The Knife of Never Letting Go - Patrick Ness

They all seem like things I'd like, so I just need to decide between them. Thanks!

  • Has anyone read the book Unwind by Neal Shusterman?

I just love this book. I thought the ending was wonderful, just written absolutely beautifully, full of closure and all that stuff.

I'm just wondering what other people thought of the ending. Did you like it or not? Two people who I know who've read it loved the ending, and two didn't like it at all. What did you guys think?

  • A book like Nicholas Sparks' "A Walk to Remember"?

Can anyone recommend some books that are similar to A Walk to Remember?

Please don't just recommend Nicholas Sparks' other books, because I'm looking for a similar plot, not similar writing. I really love the "bad boy falling for the good girl" thing.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Does A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks have a sad ending?

I heard that it was sad, but is it the ending that's sad, or just something that happens in the book? I really want to read it, but I really want a happy endings right now, I'm sick of sad ones.

Please don't spoil anything though! Thanks you!

  • What are some books where the "bad boy" falls in love?

I'm dying to read one of those books where the "bad boy" in love with the "good girl." I don't want one where it's the girl all sappy over the boy who acts like a jerk, I'd rather it was the jerky guy in love with the girl who realizes he's a jerk.

Does anyone know of any books like this? Preferable young adult books. Thank you!

PS. I know I asked this question a while ago, and sorry if it bugs anyone, but I'm hoping that a new crowd of people will be here by now and I really want some more answers :)
