  • Can I recoup rent from a landlord who doesn't have a business license to operate? She doesn't have a C of O.?

I have a landlord who doesn't fix anything. I actually moved into her home on the spur of the moment as I had gone to closing on my home and the people refused a rent buy-back. So, I found her house, which wasn't finished (carpet not clean, painting not finished, etc.), but I took it or me and my 3 kids would have been homeless. I worked with her on the repairs, which did not get done. I managed to make things work, we went 1 month and 1/2 without heat (against Maryland law), and currently, we do not have a/c. I had to borrow a portable a/c from my god-mom. She is a slum lord. I want to know if I can recoup all rent paid to her because she isn't licensed and has no required Certificate of Occupancy required to operate. Any websites I can look up? I need some really sharp advice on this one, guys. It's gonna take everything I have to keep from knocking her the f**k out!

  • How can you get someone with post-traumatic stress syndrome to go to therapy?

My boyfriend lost his mother to lung cancer last year. I know that he is angry at her inside because he told me that when she had just a "small spot" on her lung, she had the opportunity to get treatment, but purposefully did not pursue it. As she put it, she "made her piece with Jesus". That would devastate me, too so I know he has some deep-seeded anger toward her death. To make things worse, when he was 9 years old, he witnessed his father being shot to death. In fact, he was walking with his father, hand in hand, when his father was shot. He's in a lot of pain and it is destroying him (and our relationship). Thankfully, he's not on drugs or alcohol, but he is definitely spiraling out of control. Any advice? I don't want to leave him when I know that he needs help, but I am battling my own personal demons like everyone else, and he is wearing me out mentally. I'll listen to all advice, please. Thanks.

  • I have a Jewish cemetery near my home. What is the significance of placing rocks on the headstone?

Just curious. Not all of them have them, but quite a few of them have rocks or pebbles on them. Thanks.

  • What is a Mezzuzza? I hope I spelled it right. What is it for in the Jewish faith?

I saw them a lot in my former line of work. People had them posted on the outside of their doors tilted and affixed to their doorframes. They were always very ornamental-looking, but very stately. Just curious.

  • Can anyone tell me how to invest in companies that will yield dividend checks? I am very interested in oil.

I am looking to create some assets that are going to generate income for me, because this working for someone else and going paycheck to paycheck is NOT cool at all!!!!

  • Ok, so I seriously NEED to change my career. I have been in property management for 14 yrs. and hate it!?

Unfortunately, employers have a tendency to overlook you when you are trying to transition into another line of work. I am looking at Real Estate right now, and am enrolled for college in the fall, but as for now, I have no earthly idea of which direction to go into. I was a Property Manager, which afforded me a great deal of office skills, but so far, no luck!

  • Should I purchase a home with someone without being married to them? We are just in a relationship.?

We both want the same kind of future, but I have been seeing some things in him as a person that kinda make me wonder if he can handle such a huge responsibilty. I had a home before and sold it, so I know the commitment it takes. He isn't irresponsible with money or anything like that, but he's never owned a home before. Also, we have moments where we just cannot see eye to eye on things, and he makes me feel like it just wouldn't work. I certainly don't want to be tied to a mortgage with someone that I can't get along with, but I go back and forth in my mind. We have our good days and bad days, but I just wonder....
