I am a Hindu. I started on this journey trying to differentiate between belief & faith, religion & spirituality. Am trying to understand the nitty-gritty of Realization. I studied in Roman Catholic schools and I feel that whatever I understand of Hinduism today is because of my keen interest in grasping the truth of other religions. I know that I am able to appreciate the truth in other religions too because I believe in the theorey of oneness, the unitary existence, that there is only ONE without a second. I believe that Christ & Krishna are not different or opposites, like the head & tail of a coin do not symbolize different values. Truth is always ONE. . I do not believe in there being pairs like good & evil, big & small, blessing & curse etc. I have my own personal; collection of about 1500 books, basically on Vedanta, the Upanishads, Gita, the Bible and a few on other religions. Would love to know there are others like me, in this great & adventrous journey of life & living. .

17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIf everything in Life is pre-destined is their any role to play for our intelligence & will power?
Is it not a fact that if everything were to be pre-destined, there would be nothing left for Man to do and reach out for or make an effort? Under the circumstances, Life & Living would have no purpose. Saint or sinner, both have to feed their own self. They just cannot afford to keep waiting with an open mouth for even one single morsel to reach their lips. Every one of us has to make an effort and the faintest effort is motivated by a purpose. And yet off & on, we are reminded of everything being pre-destined.
On one side we have the mandatory need & compulsion to have to use our intelligence, power of discrimination & will power. At every step in life we are extorted to make our best efforts for achieving any goal in life. At the same time, off & on, the idea of everything being pre-destined is spoken about and suggested. Between the two, where lies the truth? I mean, at one end we are extorted to make efforts and at the other we are suggested that every thing is pre-destined. What is the truth?
Is it possible that the culprit in this case is the understanding of the expression 'every thing' - that 'every thing' is pre-destined? Is it possible that only the strong tendencies with us today - tendencies that influence our every day actions and activities - which we carry from our past form the actual content of our destiny and that the balance space in life is to be taken up by our intelligence, will power and power of discrimination?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs a woman's body designed to prevent CONCEPTION in cases of rape?
Republican Senate candidate, Todd Akin of Missouri, USA, says so. According to a statement made by him in August, a woman's body can prevent conception in cases of "legitimate rape."
First of all , which rape is "legitimate"? Tomorrow some 'knowledgeable' personalities may profess genuine loot & arson, dacoity & vandalism, Hitlerism & Talibanism etc. to be 'legitimate'. Further, another Republican Senate candidate, Mr. Richard Mourdock said on October 23, that "pregnancies caused by rape were something God intended to happen." Next, we will be told that these are all to be accepted with open arms since they are God's will, failing to contend with the fact that we have with us the power of discrimination and societal constraints, laws & expectations.
May I have your views on this?
P.S.:. I am very much ashamed & deeply sorry that earlier on I had used the word 'contraception' in place of 'conception'. I am grateful to Sweet Pinki for pointing out my over-sight and also to my other friends who still bothered to consider a response to an obviously foolish question inadvertently posted by me. I apologise.
4 AnswersPolls & Surveys9 years agoAre words just never capable enough to express the whole truth?
Can the real & complete basic truth ever be expressed in words?
Are not words just capable of expressing only a relative truth?
E.g.:Can the taste of sugar be expressed in words? Can a feeling, like I Love You, be completely expressed in words? Can the best recipe book teach us the taste & nourishment that a particular recipe offers us?
10 AnswersPolls & Surveys9 years agoDoesn't 'covering up' not mean 'not telling' the truth?
Doesn't 'covering up' therefore not mean plain lying?
When 'covering up' stands for not telling the truth, doesn't 'covering up' amount to lying, since not telling the truth means lying?
Then what about actions like using make-up & wearing clothes etc. Do these not intend to hide the truth and do not actions like these amount to lying, subterfuge and deception?
