  • Looking for a specific book about a dragon rider?

I read a book quite a while ago (I'd say around 4-6 years ago) about a dragon rider. Honestly, I don't remember much. I borrowed it from a friend, and it was the second book in the series. The main character was a guy, and the book started out with him on his dragon trying to get away from someone or something. Other then that, all I remember was that the cover had a dragon on it- one of those really, really long ones that looks like a snake.

I doubt anyone can figure out what book this is from my description, but if you do recognize the book, I'll love you forever.

  • Where to find a used Butet or Luc Childeric saddle?

I'm looking for a used Butet or Luc Childeric saddle, it needs to be in at least decent condition- it'll be used for high level AQHA shows. I've been searching around and found some good ones, but I'm sure there are people on here who know of other good online tack stores/etc... that would carry used saddles.

Sorry, I'm asking this again just to see if anyone else has some good ideas on where to look.

  • Why do people insist on judging people without actually getting to know them?

Why is it that so many people insist on judging other people without actually getting to know them first? And it's not like they judge people for good reasons (say, you've heard things about them from trusted friends, or you have some background information to work with). They judge them for stupid superficial crap like how they dress, how much they way, their religion, their sexual orientation, the music they listen to, etc...

I just don't understand why people can't take the time to actually get to know someone before they jump in and start judging. I really don't think it's that hard. Sure, it takes time, but I've got some great friends that I definitely wouldn't have if I just judged them the second I met them. I just don't get why people feel that they have the right to judge people when they don't know anything about them, or know their situation.

Sorry, this is more of a rant then a question, but feel free to weigh in with your opinion, or go off on your own rant ;)

And on a more fun note, something I saw earlier today that's sort of on this topic and made me laugh was EGG.

  • Are shuriken legal in Washington State?

Pretty much exactly what I asked- are shuriken illegal in Washington State. Also, is it the counties in Washington State that decide if they're legal? Because obviously, that would matter, lol.

  • Camera recommendations?

So I'm looking for a new camera. Problem is, I have no idea where to start. The one I have right now is a Canon PowerShot A480. Up till now, it's worked OK for me. I really don't need something really fancy, but I am taking more pictures ( http://naiyakagami.deviantart.com/ if it helps to see the kind of pictures I take), so I would like something that is at least pretty nice. Uhm, yeah. Clearly I have no idea where to even start. So does anyone have some good suggestions for a relatively nice camera that won't completely break the bank?

  • Creative ideas to keep a horse tied up (he gets out of his halter)?

As I said, I have a horse that slips out of his halter every single time you tie him up. He gets the tie behind his ear (and therefore behind his halter), leans into it to create tension, pulls back, and the halter pops off. He can do it in 3 seconds flat :p It works great for him, but not so much for me.

I've tried all of the obvious stuff- a short tie, a hanging tie (it's a tie suspended from a cable that goes across our arena, and gives when a horse pulls down on it, enough so that a horse can lay down on it, but he can still get enough tension to pull his halter off), I've tied a strand of twine along the bottom of the halter to create a second throatlatch. His halter can be as tight as you can get it (trust me, in no way is it too loose). Also, we don't have crossties (I'm a hater. I hate crossties, and I'm 99% sure that Vegas would flip himself over backwards trying to get his halter off when he's crosstied).

So does anyone have any other creative ideas? I've pretty much given up, lol. The rotten little snot is too smart for his own good :p

  • Dog swallowed something- advice/experience/knowledge?

I have no idea what she swallowed- it was big enough that it got stuck in her throat. I managed to get a look at it when I was trying to get it out. All I could tell is that it was plastic, roughly the size of a half-dollar, and it had jagged edges.

She managed to swallow it before I could get it out. Now the problem I have is that her stomach can't break it down (it's pretty thick plastic from what I could tell and she probably can't throw it up again (it's too big) without choking, and it's jagged, which means that it could puncture something.

I strongly, strongly feel that she needs to go to the vet, but of course, my parents want to "wait and see what happens". Does anyone have some expereince/advice/knowledge about whether or not she'll be able to get something that large out of her system without damaging anything?

  • Does anyone have a good (cheap) source for Adequan and Legend?

Does anyone have a good source (other than SmartPack) for Adequan and Legend? I'm checking with the local vets to see how much they charge, plus I know someone that works for a vet that can order it directly from the supplier cheap, but does anyone have any other brilliant ideas about where to get it?

  • Does anyone have last months NSBA magazine laying around?

My horse's full brother is being shown at the Congress in one of the futurities, and I cannot for the life of me remember what his name is.

His ad's in the NSBA magazine, but I don't have a copy, and I can't find anyone that does.

I believe he's being shown by Troy Compton, the ad's about in the middle of the magazine, and if I remember right, it's black and white. There's no picture, just a silhouette of a horse, and there's info about two horses on the page; he's the bottom one. He's by Dont Skip Zip and out of Chocolate Zipper.

If anyone could pretty please see if they can find his name and what class he's showing in, I'd love you forever! :p

  • What do you like to have the vet look at on a pre-purchase?

What do you like to have the vet check on when you're getting a pre-purchase for a horse? (Also, what do you compete in?)

I do AQHA All-Around ("WP All-Around", so Showmanship, Horsemanship, Equitation, WP, HUS, Trail, Western Riding (maybe)).

I do health certificate and coggins (duh)

After a bad experience, I now do a drug test

I do flex tests, even though I find them worthless (hey, they cost like 5 dollars, so why not?)

And X-rays. Lots and lots of x-rays. Front feet, ankles (front and back), knees, hocks, stifles, and shoulders.

  • Anyone here have any experience finding horses that were sold?

I'm looking for a horse of mine that I sold a while back, and I need some help. I really have no idea how to go about this. I have the most recent owner's (according to ApHC records) name, and his address, but I can't find another way to get ahold of him (and I'd really prefer calling/emailing to snail mail- it takes too long, and it's too easy to ignore).

So, does anyone have any good ideas, or is willing to help me get some more information?

  • Need help coming up with a barn name for a horse?

I'm getting a new horse, he's being shipped up here (Washington) from Texas and will be here in 9 days (yay!).

Anyways, he's a 15.3-16hh dark brown/bay (I say he's a dark bay, my trainer says he's brown) gelding, almost black. Registered AQHA, registered name is Dont Skip The Player. He's really laid back, but he could get very naughty in the wrong hands (no worries there, my current horse is like that too). He's 7, and very, very pretty. Like, teeny, tiny head, great conformation, all that.

The only names that I've thought of are Ace and Vegas (off of the "Player" in his name, but he doesn't need a name related to his show name), but I don't like them all that much.

    My only thing is, nothing cutesy-cutesy, he's a high-level show horse, not a 3yo's new kitten ;)

  • Deaf Dane Rescue? Good or bad?

I'm looking at adopting a dog from the deaf dane rescue in Oregon. I love what I've seen of their website, and I've heard some great things about it.

However, one rescue seems to have a huge problem with DDRI. They have all sorts of claims, from them killing puppies to placing an aggressive dog, to breeding their dogs, and another dog biting someone (altho', this is unclear. I can't tell if the owner surrendered the dog to the second rescue, or if DDRI transferred the pup to the second rescue, plus there is no evidence to back this up. Apparently the lady doesn't have a copy of her doctors bill.)

Obviously, I'll go and look around for myself if I decide to get a dog from them, but does anyone have experience with DDRI, or know someone who does?

  • What horse-related games do you play?

    http://www.hajinc.com/index.php?affid=9616

I love this game. It's very realistic, and genes are passed down from sire/dam to foal, along with breeding and showing ability. The game is completely free, and you can still get ahead when playing for free, unlike other games where you can only do good if you pay a lot of money. Plus, the people on the forum are friendly and helpful!

So what games do you guys play?

  • Question about birth control pills?

Background: I'm 16 and have had my period. It's settled down, the only problem is that I have 1 full week on, 2 full weeks off. It's really bugging me, and I've been thinking about using birth control pills to control it so that I don't have my period so often.

The question: I can't swallow pills, so does anyone know if they make chewable b/c pills?

Stupid question, I know :p But I have no idea and it can't hurt to ask before I talk to a doctor.

  • What horse related games do you like to play?

I play an excellent horse game:

    http://www.hajinc.com/clickit.php?affid=9616

in my spare time. It is very well designed and thought out. It uses real-life genetics, and horses inherit sh0owing ability from their parents. There is an excellent forum with lots of members willing to give advice, and the best part is, you can play this game for free and excel at it! You don't need to become a paying member to have good horses. (Altho', a lot of us cave to the addiction and upgrade).

  • How do I tell my neighbors to keep track of their dog?

As the title says, my neighbors dog keeps getting out. I've brought it back twice, and was told a quick and very unconvincing "thanks", then the door was closed. The dog was out again tonight, and was in the alley.

This dog is not street smart, and plays in the street all the time. Tonight, he actually jumped in front of my car.

Their gate is left open probably 2-3 times a month. I actually spent an entire half hour chasing their dog around the neighborhood to catch it so it wouldn't get hurt. Next time I find the dog, I'm taking it straight to the animal shelter, but I would like to say something to my neighbors first. So, what should I say? (Note: I'm 16, so it's harder for me to talk to people and have them actually listen to what I say).
