iphone 5s - email question.?
Just got a new phone through work, the iphone 5s. I've always been more of an Android person, but you'll never catch me refusing a free phone.
I've got my email account set up, but it doesn't seem to be syncing fully with the server (the version I can see on my lap top). If I read or delete messages on my computer, they do not update on my phone as read, or deleted. If I flag a message as important on my phone, it will not show flagged on the lap top. Additionally, as soon as a message is delivered to the phone, it shows as read on my lap top, even if I haven't opened it. This, especially, is problematic as I get 300+ messages per day. When messages start to show as read automatically, I end up missing things.
Am I missing a setting? Is this a common problem? I tried the Googles, but was unsuccessful.
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans7 years agoShortening an extremely long mane...?
I rescued an OTTB mare about a year and a half, maybe two years ago. Put some weight on her, put a few rides on her, let her just be a horse for a while. Last fall she successfully interrupted her training program with a case of Potomac Horse Fever and while she has since made a full recovery, she lost quite a bit of weight while she was sick. Cue another long winter of doing nothing but eating, gaining weight, and bumming around being a pasture ornament.
Now she's fat, happy, back in training, and scheduled to go up for sale once we put some muscle back on her. My problem is not her condition, but her mane... She's a hunter/jumper through and through. Unfortunately, her mane is currently longer than her neck is thick. If I pull it, there will be nothing left - she'll be completely bald. Not a look you want in a sale horse :) If I cut it... well, I'm sure everyone knows how stupid she'll look then. What's the best option here? I've considered roaching it, but I have no personal experience with this method. If I do break out the clippers, will it grow back in a way that will leave me able to eventually pull it to look naturally short? How short should I clip it? Thickness isn't the problem, it's all about the length. Any suggestions?
4 AnswersHorses9 years agoAnyone ever dealt with Potomac Horse Fever?
Our mare has been a little off her feed since Saturday. She's always been finicky, and the weather has been getting cooler, so we didn't really think anything of it. Tonight, we noticed she was disinterested in her surroundings. She lives out 24/7 with our four geldings, but someone (we're assuming her) has diarrhea. No fever, no colic signs, but we called the vet. He thinks she has Potomac Horse Fever and is coming out tomorrow to confirm and administer IV meds.
So, the question: how worried should I be? Has anyone ever dealt with PHF before? The Internet says it isn't contagious, can anyone confirm or deny? What am I in for? Any advice or reassurances would be greatly appreciated (:
And yes, before you ask, all four of them were vaccinated for PHF. On 6/21. I literally just finished paying the bill last week, that's how I remember the date.
5 AnswersHorses10 years agoHow to help a gelding with dry skin?
I have a three year old thoroughbred with dry skin. He's a typical thoroughbred with the stereotypical "thin skin." It's the beginning of winter here in south central PA and it's been raining. He's getting over a mild case of rain rot (very mild) and is starting to grow in his winter fuzzies. While treating the above mentioned fungus tonight, I noticed that he's got a lot of dandruff on his neck and shoulder. Is there anything I should or can do to treat it?
I'm not currently feeding him oil in his feed, but he gets Blue Seal Carb Guard. One of the main ingredients is vegetable oil. You guys are going to hate me, but I don't know weight wise how much he gets - let's just say he's a 16.1 1/2 hand three year old thoroughbred hard keeper who stays fat and sassy on this; let's call it a "reasonable amount." The point of that ramble was that I don't think additional veggie oil will help.
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoBlackberry and Microsoft Outlook?
Just got a new Blacberry from work. When I linked it to my Outlook account, now the Blackberry marks all the emails as read as soon as they hit my computer. Is there any way to change the settings so that it doesn't do this? How about getting the emails that I read on the computer to be marked as read on the phone without actually manipulating them on the blackberry?
1 AnswerPDAs & Handhelds1 decade agoWhat is the fastest way to get rid of FLEAS!?!?
I was on vacation last week, and came home to a full blown infestation. Monday (yesterday) I put Frontline on the dog and two cats, and "bombed" the entire house with Raid ... I forget what, exactly. The little pull can that reacts with half an inch of water and emits a fog of poison. I washed all the clothes and bedclothes, vacumed and mopped. I have hardwood floors throughout my house, and they are STILL IN MY BEDROOM! Like, between the floorboards or something. Enough that when I walk through my room, they jump from the floor to my feet 5 and 10 at a time.
My whole family is coming this weekend for a reunion and are supposed to spend the day and night at my house. Is it even possible to get rid of these things before Saturday?

1 AnswerBirds1 decade agoHypothyroidism and skin problems?
I just adopted a dog with hypothyroidsm. She is six years old and was diagnosed three weeks ago after being dropped at the shelter. So, she's only been on Soloxine for three weeks. We've had her since Sunday.
She has skin lesions all over her body, especially on her belly and legs. As a condition of her adoption, we had to take her to one of the shelter's approved vets. The vet was incredibly unhelpful. In a week or two, I have every intention of taking her to my own vet. I want to wait that long because I want to be able to tell him if the drugs are working or not. In the mean time, I'd like to keep her skin from getting worse. She's cracking and bleeding around the pads on her paws, and she has scabs and sores all over her belly and legs. Does anyone have any experience in this? Can you suggest something topical I might be able to give her? Would a moisturizer keep any further lesions/scabs from forming, or is it a waste of time and energy? How soon after starting treatment did you start to see improvement?
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoAnyone know anything about abscesses?
It's been quite a few years since I've had a horse with vulnerable feet, but I seem to have stumbled upon one this year. My two year old thoroughbred has developed his second abscess in the last 5 weeks. I live in southern PA, and it's been ridiculously rainy here for the last two months. Rain of course means mud... I was wondering if anyone knows if the moisture could be softening his hooves to make him more prone to abscessing? Would keeping him in the barn at night help the situation and possibly prevent further abscessing?
Or, am I way off?
9 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWill Ducks of Different Breeds Get Along?
I lost one of my Blue Sweedish ducks last night, and my remaining guy is depressed and refusing food. I can't for the life of me find another Blue Sweedish to match him up with, but I might be able to get a pair of Mandarin Ducks. Anyone know if that will be good enough to save my poor lonely guy? I'm pretty lost when it comes to the duck - we normally do chickens, so any advice would be helpfull.
Thanks!
2 AnswersBirds1 decade agoAnybody know anything about driving?
I'd like to break my horse to drive. Currently I can ground drive him without any problems, so all I need now is the cart!
Ok, I admit: I know practically nothing about the sport of driving. All I really want is for my mom's horse to be able to cart her around a bit. Can anyone offer any advice on how to fit a cart to a horse? The gelding in question is 14.3 hands. He's only 2 1/2, but I dont see him topping out over 15 hands. So, how do I determine what size cart would fit him? I've found a few on craigslist that are affordable, but they're being sold by non-horsey people (it-was-in-the-barn -when-we-bought-the -house types) so they can't tell me if it would fit my horse. If anyone can give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you could suggest a good introductory book...
Thanks a bunch!

Does anyone feed roundbales? Does this sound like horse quality hay? Planning to store it in the barn and feed a little at a time to keep it dry.
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAnother "How Much More Will He Grow" Question?
I have a paint gelding who just turned 2 in March. He is currently 14.2 and 1/2 inch. I never got a chance to see his Dam, but his sire was 15 hands, maybe 15.1? (his previous owners told me the stallion was 15.4 and the mare was 15.6 so I have no idea how big she might have been) He has in the last 2 or 3 months slowed down his "up" growth, and has started filling out. My question is, how much more do you think his head will grow? I'm not riding him yet, but I am lunging him in full tack and teaching him to ground drive. He fits perfectly in my sister's pony's tack, but we both work and with the limited amount of afternoon daylight, I'm tired of sharing. I'm definitely not getting him his own saddle yet because I know he has a lot of filling out to do, but do you think I'll be ok to get him his own bridle and bit, or will he just grow out of them in the next six months?
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoItchy horse. . . Any ideas?
My horse has no hair on his forehead. I noticed some scabs on him the other day and I thought he may have knocked his head on something (two year old thoroughbred. . . stuff happens). The scabs have fallen off, but he's missing more hair than he was the other day and there's a spot that's a little raw like he's been rubbing it. It can't be sweet itch because he wears a (well fitting) fly mask from dawn to dusk. I'm having the vet out next week to give him his boosters so I'll have her take a look at it then, but does anyone have any ideas in the meantime?
9 AnswersHorses1 decade agoCan anyone suggest a good vitamin supplement that doesn't cost a fortune?
I have a gelding turned 2 in March. I have been feeding him a pellet feed formulated for growing youngsters, but with the grass growing in now he's starting to pack on the pounds. Ideally, I'd like to cut his pellets back to almost nothing, but I want to make sure I'm not robbing him of nutrition. Any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive vitamin supplement? I'm going to see what my grain store has in stock when I go there tomorrow, but if it's something I can order off the internet that's good too!

Hey all! I have the basics down, but I can always use help brushing up on my confirmation spotting ability.
So, what's your "pet peeve" of confirmation? Pictures and descriptions. I personally hate seeing a horse with a bad swayback, especially a youngster.
17 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAAAAHHH! Yahoo keeps eating my question! A question about beginners. . .?
What are some exercises I can have my friend do on my horse? I'm teaching him to ride, but we're still on the lunge line (english gear)
What can I have him do to allow him to become more comfortable in the saddle? Exercises like "reach up and clap your hands, reach down and touch your toes"
