  • Can someone explain to me the concept of time?

More specifically, how time at one point didn't exist? According to modern science, time is a dimension just like height, width, and depth. And also that the big bang is that start of the universe including time. Which means that before the Big Bang, time did not exist. I find this absolutely incomprehensible as for the Big Bang to occur, there would have had to been a "before the Big Bang" and thus time before the Big Bang.

I guess I'm just having a really hard time wrapping my head around the idea that the Big Bang created time.

  • Why can't many Republicans understand the concept of Separation of Church and State?

To be fair, some democrats probably don't either, but I constantly hear Republicans say that God asked them to run for office. God doesn't just tell people to run for office. He speaks though the bible, and the bible says keep religion out of politics and politics out of religion. "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." Jesus himself said so.

As for the founders, most of them were Christian, yes. They also understood the concept of separation of church and state. Religious toleration is what our country is founded on. America was NOT founded on Christianity.

For your information, I'm an male liberal who supports legalized abortions, marriage equality, and funding for education, and scientific advancement. I think that economic revival and deficit reduction is best accomplished by strengthening the middle class, not lowering taxes on the rich.

I am against anti-immigration laws because most of the ones politicians come up with lean towards being racist. I vehemently oppose bringing religion into politics.

Just so you know what my biases are.

  • SAT practice question?

So I was practicing for the SAT and one of the questions I got "wrong" is incredibly vague. Or the person who wrote the questions and the person who wrote the answer key were different people.

Relevant passage: the best site was a juncture between Dragon and Tiger (low ground and high ground), which is why the imperial tombs of Beijing are so beautifully situated, just where the valley floor begins to turn into mountain slopes.

The principles of feng-shui suggest that the best terrain on which to build a house is

    A) partly hilly and partly flat (correct answer)

    B) River valley

    C) Mountainous

    D) where mountains meet the sea (my answer)

    E) rugged with lots of trees

The passage the answer key cited for their justification was the one I paraphrased. However, doesn't that support D far more than it supports A?

  • SAT singular vs. plural rules?

Is there a website that has all the rules for subject-verb agreement according to SAT standards?

I'm not talking about I walks to the store. I mean rules for none (which I know is always singular on the SAT but not in real life), neither (which is somewhat more complicated), and that's all I can think of.

So what are the rules for subject-verb agreement with neither?

  • Cleverbot is not real?

Well at least not 100% real. Dont know for sure but it seems like you'll either get a robot response, a human response, or something totally random and off topic.

First, the robot response. Cb usually responds like a robot would to single questions. So cb is definitely part ai

But then occassionally you get a human response like mispellings or gibberish.

And im sure everyone has noticed, changing the subject. Cb usually completely says something completely unexpected relating nothing to do with the conversation. Like you ask the meaning of life and have a conversation about it for about 5 lines then it changes subjects without any transition.

So heres my theory. Sometimes it posts a ai produced response. And othet times it posts a response from another user. Or it might be ambiguous or whatever. But to keep people from figuring it out, it will switch users on you very quickly.

Just my experieces, and im wondering if anyone else notices that cb tends to switch users quite often

  • Chopin not getting the proper respect?

I find some people tend to not like Chopin because his more popular pieces have turned them off. Or they like Chopin based on a few of his more popular pieces.

Like seriously? I love Chopin, but if I hear another nocturne op 9/2 I'm going to rip someone's head off. AND I CANNOT STAND THE MILITARY POLONAISE. And Fantasie-Impromptu? It's not that difficult, and Chopin has definitely written better things.

    FOR INSTANCE

Ballades, Scherzis, Sonatas, various pieces like Berceuse, Fantasie, Barcarolle, Bolero, Some polonaises (BUT NOT 40/1), Nocturnes OTHER THAN 9/2 and C#m posthumous, Prelude op.45, cello sonata, that one cello piece, concertos,

Yep Chopin has written a LOT of great stuff and yet people only seem to be familiar with the ugly tip of the pile. Thoughts?

  • Czerny? More than just etudes?

So I've always thought of Czerny of just the guy who wrote a bunch of preChopin etudes.

And I realized this is a very shallow way of looking at Czerny, who taught Liszt.

So, what are your favorite Czerny pieces?

  • Compositions that just failed?

So even the greats have their off days. What are some pieces that a great composer has written (by great I mean someone that's actually written music that is well respected) that is just a load of garbage and you can't believe they wrote it.

  • I need help finding a piece...?

So today, I managed to get a beautiful melody stuck in my head and I can't remember which piece (or perhaps song) it is.

I am 99% positive it is by Debussy, the other 1% being another Impressionist. It's a piece for piano and violin or cello, or most probably, a transcription for violin or cello and piano.

And as much of it i can transcribe: CEB A F#GB A

I hear more cello than violin, though I'm pretty sure I've heard both. The melody is in duplets while the piano plays triplets.

Also, it's probably well known. And no it is not Clair de Lune.
