  • Tongue seems to swell more at night?

I've recently got my tongue pierced, about 2 0r 3 days ago and its been fine. My tongue is swollen, but during the day it doesn't really get in the way and it doesn't hurt. I suck on ice chips, and drink really cold things during the day. However when I wake up after sleeping at night it seems to have swollen a little more and it hurts a little. It definitely goes down during the day though.

Is this a normal nightly occurrence for a new piercing?

  • Since whole earth is made by Merrick do I still have to mix dog foods to switch over.?

You're supposed to mix together food proportionally when you're changing a dogs food so they don't get diarrhea. Right now I'm feeding my puppy Merrick. Since Whole Earth is owned by Merrick do I still have to mix the foods or can I just give her Whole Earth when the bag of Merrick is finished?

She's only 2 months now but I want to switch her over when she's older and has grown a bit. She's a Pitbull puppy. Please don't tell me Blue Buffalo, she hates it.

  • Why is crating such a tense subject for people?

When doing research for my dogs and also by using yahoo answers, I get attacked a lot for mentioning crating my dogs. Crating seems to be a great housebreaking tool and also just a general thing to keep a dog out of trouble when you're gone for a bit of time. Why do people get so defensive and attack not only me but other people who choose or in my case have to ( for the husky) crate their dogs?

  • Wee Wee pad training a new puppy.?

We just got a new pit-bull puppy about 8 weeks old. I'm trying to train her to use wee-wee pads because she has no shots and can't legally go outside yet. She's also a bit underweight. She's headed to the vet sometime in the next week, to get dewormed and some information on how to help her gain weight.

She is the only puppy I've ever had that will use the bathroom in several different places(I've only had 3 including her in all honesty) . I keep an eye on her and have her attached to a lead. When she has to use the bathroom she sniffs around and I know she has to go, so i'll place her on the wee wee pad. She'll stop sniffing wander around and pee somewhere around the pad but not on it. I'm not really sure of her situation before we got her, I think she was kept in a bathroom with her mom and brothers and sisters. With wee wee pads lined up against the tub or something.

Any tips to make house training easier? My mother foolishly thought she would be able to share a crate with the older dog, but due to the fact that she's not housetrained I intend on buying her a crate when I get paid this week.

  • How do I teach an almost 1 year old husky recall?

I've had this dog for almost 2 months, we got her from a shelter. When we got her she already knew how to sit (sort of) , and after working with her for about 2 weeks she normally sits on command. I've been working on it since we got her, but she doesn't normally respond to her name when she is called. She'll look at you sometimes but she won't come to you? I'm out of ideas of what to do at this point., and I'm frustrated that her previous owners didn't teach her anything what so ever.

I don't want to depend on treats to get her to do what I want or need her to do. So how can I teach her things she should already know at her age?

  • What are other ways I can exercise with my husky?

Normally, I rollerblade with her for a few miles and when she s better trained I intend to go bike riding with her. I live in NYC and soon its going to be winter which is fine because we both like the cold, but I can t rollerblade on an icy sidewalk. I can t run with her because she s a puller and I have shoulder problems because of it, plus i d get tired before she did anyway. How can i make sure she has enough exercise this winter.

She ll be one sometime in November and we ve had her for almost 2 months.

  • My dog doesn't calm down when she's tired.?

Now that my dog is leashed trained I've taken to rollerblading with her. The longest we've rollerbladed is a mile and the longest we've walked is two. She was tired at the end of the two mile walk obviously but we got in a car and we took a trip by the time we got home she could barely keep her head up. So we put her in her crate, where she promptly conked out and we went to go sit on the porch. Not 5 minutes later she's howling like someone's attacking her. She calmed down enough for me to let her out of the crate and then proceeded to run back and forth in the house. She's basically asleep on her feet and refuses to calm down unless there's at least one person in the house with her. She's a 10 month old husky that we've had for almost a month. Are there any tips on getting her to calm down?

  • How can I stop my dog from jumping when we re playing?

So I have a 10 month old, very energetic husky puppy. I really like to play with her and we run around in the park. After we ve stopped running she s excited and starts jumping on me.

She knows that she s not allowed to jump on me, of all people but when she s excited it seems as if she forgets this fact and turning around like you normally would doesn t seem to phase her.

How can I get her to stop?

  • Is 3 hours too long?

We got a husky puppy from the shelter, and while we were waiting for her papers to go through I read up on the breed. I understand that they're prone to separation anxiety. My mother doesn't understand this fact, and doesn't have to deal with it because I'm stuck in the house with the dog all day. We made sure that she would never be alone in the house for more than 3 hours, but even if I leave for 5 minutes to go to the store she's whining at the door when I get back. She has a lot of toys so I don't think she's bored. Soon I'm going to have to leave for work, and I know we have to crate her because whenever she's alone in the house she finds something to destroy.

Is leaving her in a crate for 3 hours and awful thing to do?

  • How can I train my dog to use the bathroom outside?

We got our 9 month old dog from the shelter (she's a purebred husky that was voluntarily given up) and they told us that she was wee-wee pad trained. Which is nice, because that means no accidents in the house.

The problem with this is that, she doesn't use the bathroom outside ever. We take her on walks 2 - 3 times a day depending on the temperature but even so when we come back in she runs straight to the pad and uses it. I don't think her previous owners took her outside much.

She never makes a mess in the house, but even so how can I teach her to use the bathroom outside?

  • Is it possible to curb my husky puppy's chewing somehow?

We got a 9 month old husky puppy from the Rescue Shelter last Saturday. She's really affectionate and already knew how to sit and we've taught her how to stay.

Given the fact that she's a Husky she chews everything and in preparation for that, we got a chew toy for her before we brought her home (We intended on investing in more as she settled in) . She has almost eaten through the chew toy, which was a very large ball of knotted rope ideal for playing fetch with. She goes after stuffed animals and manages to find them after we've hidden them away. No matter what we put out of her reach she always manages to get to it.

I understand that dogs chew on things, it's what they do.

We're going to get her a Kong ball to chew on but I feel as though that's not going to prevent her from chewing on other things when she's bored.

Does anyone have any other ideas besides chew toys?
