The churches use those donations to build places of worship, teach their brand of religion and how to live it, take care of the less fortunate and show mercy and by doing that, earn the privilege of receiving gifts that would not be made or would be made in lesser sums by sticking to their limited role in organized Society Churches were limited in participating in politics. Not any more. Preachers, Bishops and lesser powers in churches all over America are trying to tell their worshipers who to vote for and who to vote against. They are, in other words the new Super PACs that spend millions in support of a particular politician running for office or advancing some legislative agenda while keeping hidden the identities of the people who are giving the money. There may be no way to stop this, but Congress could pass a law making religious organizations pay property taxes and not permitting those giving money from reducing their tax bill by taking the deduction. This seems to be a fair trade off to me. What about you?
