iPad not working on Wi-Fi?
I've got a WAP set up on 192.168.1.50 and a router on 192.168.1.1.
The WAP works fine with android and laptops, but doesn't on iPad and iPhone
I think the issue is with DHCP, it's disabled on the WAP and when I try and connect the iPad to it, it comes back with some random IP address. So I've tried connecting with a static IP Address.
When I use 192.168.1.50 as the Router in these options it appears to connect, with the WiFi icon appearing in the notification bar, it won't however load a web page. Pinging it from 192.168.1.1 gets no connection, pinging it from 192.168.1.50 gets a connection.
Using 192.168.1.1 as the Router gives a tick next to the WiFi but no icon in the notification bar.
It's really quite frustrating any help would be appreciated!
(I'm fairly sure the WAP is set-up correctly or the Laptops/Android phone wouldn't work)
2 AnswersComputer Networking7 years agoiPad Wi-Fi Problems?
Hello,
Trying to get my iPad to connect to a router set up as a WAP, it connects to the normal router fine, the iPhone connects to the WAP fine, but the iPad won't. It doesn't connect at all, I set it up as static and it says it's connected but I can't access anything on the LAN or the WAN..
I'm guessing it's a problem with the DHCP, any help welcome (except 'switching the router off and on again')
1 AnswerComputer Networking7 years agoDoes policy start date impact cost?
Hello,
I'm wanting insurance (in the UK) to start on Sunday whoever I'll be at work for the rest of the week so I'll only be able to call Saturday - the day before policy start date.
I'd call off a mobile however their only contact number is a pay phone and would cost a bomb.
Will this impact the price at all?
Thanks for any replies (more so the useful ones ;) )
1 AnswerInsurance & Registration7 years agoServer for a small business?
I start a new job on Monday and they've asked me to set up a small server they've already bought (or at least a computer bought for the purpose). It's an apprenticeship and to be perfectly honest I've never had any hands on experience setting one up.
My main question is, what OS would you recommend putting on it?
I've been looking into FreeNAS however would Windows server be more suitable or even a third option?
My second question is, what features will I be able to set up? There's a host of tutorials for FreeNAS and likely for Windows but beyond File sharing and VPN I don't really know what servers are used for. (It won't be hosting their website)
4 AnswersOther - Computers7 years agoHow to connect a vinyl player?
I bought a turntable to connect up to my AV Receiver, however it's used and the previous owner has left all wires stripped, one obviously looks like the photo cable but has an extra wire with each without sleeving. Is this grounding or something?
More importantly, the second wire which I naturally assume to be for power is also stripped. Can this be connected directly to a 3 pin mains plug?
Thanks for any answers! I'll try and put a couple of pictures on to help give a better understanding than my explanation.
4 AnswersHome Theatre8 years agoWhat degree would be best to get you into R&D?
I think long term that I would like a job in Research and Development for a tech company. I love the idea of working on the next big thing or just simply to create something (or at least be a part of that) I guess a dream job would be working for Google making stuff like Google Glass of new software etc. Either way, what kind of degree would be most favourable in the eyes of employers hiring for this kind of role?
I'm looking to do Computer Science, would this be suitable? Thanks for any replies!
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoCan you plug a network cable into a wireless router to get wi-fi?
At my new accommodation I won't have wi-fi but will have the option to use a wired network via cat5. Can I directly connected this to the wireless router to broadcast it or does it have to be from a phone/ADSL input? If so can I use an adapter or change the firmware?
Basically how can I get wi-fi from a standard wired network connection?
4 AnswersComputer Networking8 years agoMotorcycle Law in the UK?
I'm just wondering what I can ride. I'm 18 and passed my test before the new law came in, meaning that two after the date I passed my test, I should be able to ride anything and be upgraded to a full license. Hopefully with my new job I should be able to afford a bigger bike however most come restricted to an A2 Licence, would I be able to ride these in the two years prior?
Sorry for not wording it very well and thanks for any responses!
6 AnswersMotorcycles8 years agoWhat are phone cases made from?
Or more so what makes them rigid? I'm wanting to make a large cover for something I'm putting together and it's got to go over a 17" display AND protect it. I know most cases such as the link below are made from PU leather but is that in itself stiff? Or is there something added or inside?
Thanks!

Basically I'd like to know if it's possible to power this LCD controller board/display off a battery (ideally an old laptop battery) and if it is possible how would you go about doing it?
The spec sheet's here:

I think it would normally be powered off the mains by:
1 AnswerOther - Electronics8 years agoA question to Atheists: Why can't you accept God?
Why is it that almost all questions on this topic seem to get immediate attention from people ready to shoot down another's religion? Sure, I don't believe in God and I've seen some of the stupid arguments made to try and discredit Atheism but even the more thought through criticisms seem to get a wave of hatred from the online community.
For a guess, those who are devoutly religious are few and far between online, with Christianity dying out. So they're always going to be outnumbered in an argument and outside looking in, the logic always seemed flawed. But why do we have to knock peoples belief, even if they are sometimes asking for it.
Yeah the title was more bait, but the point still stands.. Why can't you accept peoples belief in God? I've never got more than three answers so I'm curious as to how many this will get :)
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoHow to make/change Youtube username?
I've got a Google+ account linked up to a Youtube account, however when leaving comments it presents my name and as far as I can see you can only change it show "Name (Nickname)" or "Name 'Nickname' Name" in the + settings. Then, in the Youtube settings, the username is shown as "1uUmQokZ49SM5bL8Rottb"
Please tell me I can change it; I REALLY don't want to have to make a new one..
Thanks!

The power is on (with indicated light)
Nothing is output even in test tone
The noise it makes when switching on has altered
Still 'Hums' when you turn the volume to max
I've tried unplugging it for a while
Can't afford a new one, so ANY help is welcome. Thanks for any answers!

I'm guessing no.
I'm generally skeptical of websites such as this, I stumbled across it on Google shopping in search of the lowest price for a monitor. Has anyone had any experience with them?
5 AnswersSecurity8 years agoFeeling guilty about using Home Cinema in a top floor flat?
I've recently completed my home cinema set up, however I live in a top floor flat and the most I've had it on is 20% volume watching a movie with the remote in my hand ready to hammer the volume down when any kind of intense scene comes on..
The sound proofing is terrible at the best of times; if you have no background noise you can hear the flat below us. I can only imagine what they can hear.
Any ideas or will I have to stick to the volume button whenever I listen to something?
And yes I realise the stupidity of having a Home Cinema System in a flat to begin with ;)
Thanks for any replies!
2 AnswersHome Theatre8 years agoIs the GUI a part of the OS?
I'm supposed to be writing a report of what an OS is and does, however whilst reading up on Wikipedia I saw this quote:
"While technically a graphical user interface is not an operating system service, incorporating support for one into the operating system kernel can allow the GUI to be more responsive..."
Which has really started to confuse me as I have always assumed this to be a main feature of the OS. Can anyone offer me a bit of guidance?
5 AnswersSoftware8 years agoQuestions about Home Cinema/AV Recievers?
I asked this question a while back, thanks to those that answered first time around, but I seem to still have the same question.
Do I need an AV Reciever?
I made out from the last answer that I could use a Sub Woofer to power the speakers, although it'd be likely I need more than one etc. Would this be more practical? Would I get the same sound quality? What role would my PC play? What would a Reciever do that my computer wouldn't? If I got an AV Reciever (Sony STRDH820 is the one I liked from WhatHiFi's review) Is there an after market attachment to add DLNA/Bluetooth to avoid getting the next model up? Are there any other alternatives?
On a seperate note, is it okay to mix and match the Philips with the Teufels? I've got the impression you shouldn't due to a mix in tones etc. but would it be noticable? And would there be a quality difference? Should I keep the bookshelves at the front on my desk or put them at the back in the final setup?

I have 5 Teufel R2 Concept home cinema speakers
I have 2 bookshelf Philips Speakers
I primarily play music/films through phone and PC
I'd like to avoid having my PC on to play music
I intend to do 7 surround sound and add a sub woofer later
I have an ASRock 970 extreme3 motherboard with several related features (Please see link)

Thank you for any answers, if you could give a straight forward yes or no and then expand it would be even better! Cheers!
1 AnswerHome Theatre9 years agoDo I need an AV Reciever?
About a year ago I bought 7 Teuful R2 Concept speakers and haven't used them as I don't have an Amp for them, however I now have enough to get one and I've been looking at the Sony Receivers, however I will be using them through my computer for playing movies etc. with PowerDVD 12, which says it has DTS and Dolby. This might be an incredibly stupid question, but will my PC decode the audio as an AV Receiver does? Should I get an AV Receiver for these speakers, or just an Integrated Amp or the likes? Will a Receiver do anything else that I would need?
Also, while I'm asking (most likely stupid) questions, does it matter what subwoofer you use with the speakers? As I bought the Teufel's without one I've been looking at the Wharfedale Diamond SW150 to use in the setup.
Thanks for any help and I apologise for any naivety.
4 AnswersHome Theatre9 years agoWhat size SSD should I get?
I've currently got a 2TB Western Digital, but it's slow as hell to boot up and open programs. I'm not exactly rich, so I'm thinking of getting a fairly small capacity to transfer the OS and some of the main programs I use (i.e Microsoft Office, Steam, PowerDVD/iTunes) and then maybe in the future I'll get another one for games. I've been looking at Samsungs' drives if anyone has any opinion on them, it'd be nice to hear.
What I'm wondering, however, is what capacity to get. Would a 64GB be sufficient or should I play it safe and get the next step up? Thanks for any answers.
