Help~ I can't load anything but google and yahoo based sites.?
I'm running windows 7. Everything was working fine just a few hours ago.
I'm not sure what the problem is, it could be due to one of two things.
I had some connectivity issues recently, and was informed by one of the people at my shared living compound that they were adding a new computer to the network. I was able to have it say "Connected- No internet access" For a while.
Firefox updated itself.
Those are the two things that happened between then and now.
Google works and I am able to search, but not open any of the results. Youtube works. Yahoo answers work, thankfully, or I'd not be able to get any help. Everything else just loads and loads and loads and stays on a blank screen. Sometimes it shows the website name in the tab, and sometimes not.
Curiously, when I try to visit Tumblr I get this message: Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to www.tumblr.com. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
1 AnswerOther - Internet8 years agoIs there a way to turn off face limits in The Sims 3?
I can't make my sims look the way I want them to. I know there's a way to turn off the limits/sliders in Create A Sim, I just don't remember it, and can't seem to find it anywhere in the forums.
The 'glitch' I have found, where you click on a preset facial feature to reset the other sliders to the middle doesn't actually work. Does anyone know where I can find this cheat so I can make my sims' noses, eyes and chins however huge or tiny I want to?
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games8 years agoI don't want music playing over my headset, only my speakers?
My boyfriend is using my computer to talk to his friends over my Skype while the three of them play online. He is using a wireless PS3 headset, which is plugged into my computer while he is in the other room. The problem is, if I want to listen to music, I can't hear it, but my unwanted sounds play over the headset only. I've tried changing the settings, but all it does is make it so that I can hear his friend and he can't, or they can hear unwanted music and I can't. Is there any way to set it up so that all sounds from Skype go to the PS3 headset, and all other sounds (System dings, music, games etc) play through my speakers?
I am using an Asus laptop with Windows 7.
1 AnswerOther - Hardware8 years agoTylosin/Tylan dosage for finches?
I have a house finch with that stupid eye disease that's been going around. The only possible way to banish it is tylosin. I don't know how much to give such a tiny bird; the smallest dosage I could find was for a pigeon, which is over 10 times the size of this bird, who is as small as a ping pong ball. Does anyone know of a site that could tell me the dosage of antibiotic to give such a small bird?
Birds8 years agoPossible handfeeding aspiration or fall-injury? (experienced bird people!)?
I found a baby song sparrow, between 11 and 13 days old. (Looks just like this guy, but with some down on his head http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qKU0ztEUB20/Rl3HkjG5DGI/... He fell out of a nest from the roof of the break area at my work, about 10 or 12 feet. We couldn't put him back into the nest, so I took him home.
At the time he was discovered, the baby bird was breathing through an open mouth, the beak opening and closing with each breath, but he was also very hot. At the time, I thought it was panting from being in the sun for hours, and put a cold cloth over his back and the 'gasping' stopped.
When I got him home some 2 hours later (after my shift was over, he was in a cardboard box full of shredded paper until then) I decided to make some rice flour based bird formula and fill up his crop, since it was empty and he hadn't pooped in over 2 hours. He pooped 5 minutes later, nothing but water and some yellowish-brown flecks.
For the sake of you knowing whether I did this correctly: I brought the food to about 99 degrees F, and fed him with a syringe. I made a high pitched squeak (like a kissing noise) which made him throw his head back and gape for food, held his head/neck between my thumb and forefinger to keep it stretched out and then stuck the end of the syringe PAST the glottis, and toward the right (The bird's right- my left) side of his throat and slowly squeezed until I saw a drop form. He was bobbing his head and everything, and swallowed as soon as I took the syringe away, so I know I didn't force it. He ate a little too hungrily, and got an air bubble, which I extracted from his crop by means of inducing another gape from him and no-pressure rubbing the bubble until it disappeared out the top of his crop and didn't return. I stopped feeding well before his crop was full, since I wasn't sure how much I should feed. There was a pea-sized amount inside, which is about the amount I gave with the syringe. He demands/gapes for food and peeps every 25 minutes like clockwork, but I haven't increased the amount of food yet. I am feeding .625 ml of formula. Formula contains:
infant rice cereal
pureed cooked chicken, peas and a small amt of carrot
hard boiled egg yolk
I have used this formula successfully with jays, thrushes and starlings.
But now, he has started the gasping/panting behavior again, nowhere near as severe. He just cracks his mouth open a tiny bit with every inhale. However, this time (I don't know if it's because it was so noisy in the factory and so quiet in my house) I can also hear a clicking noise where there wasn't before. Is it possible that he aspirated some formula anyway, or could he have a pre-existing respiratory condition? Could he have been injured when he fell from the nest, causing the gasping? Is there anything I can do, other than give him a warm, safe, comfortable place to die?
I can't go to a vet. I live way out in the middle of nowhere, and even if I wanted to make the 2 hour drive, I don't have a car. My only vehicle is my own two feet. All I can use to help him is what I have around the house.
PLEASE NOTE: While he gasps/pants, he doesn't seem to bob his tail or involve his wings, but he does tilt his head back. Gasping/panting behavior stops completely for several minutes after feeding takes place, then gradually increases. Could this mean the pressure of his loaded crop on his trachea is helping somehow?
1 AnswerBirds8 years agoIn Windows 7, is it possible to password protect certain programs to be opened by users on guest accounts?
I would like to keep an eye on what my personal laptop is being used for when I'm not home, as there are kids in the house. I have been using Recuva to check for deleted files/history, but now I'm aware they can be deleted as easily as deleting internet history. Is there any way I can prevent Recuva or a similar program from being opened without a password?
2 AnswersSecurity8 years agoHow do you get recuva to restore certain files?
I don't know how to recognize the firefox browser history and private browsing files from the rest of the unneccesary nonsense on my computer.
I only want to restore deleted history, as well as history from sites viewed while in private browsing mode, but it's all nonsense to me. Which file names do I look for?
5 AnswersSoftware8 years agoCan't play PS3 without network connection wtf?
I accidentally lost my connection to PSN and now I am unable to play Metal Gear Peacewalker, as well as various other games. When I try, I get the message 'Registration and Trophy information could not be completed and the game will quit (80022D11)' The game then quits, and I am unable to play.
Is there any way I can correct this so I can play my game and possibly even earn trophies (although I know they will not update to the network until I can connect.) by changing my settings, or possibly by downloading a file from my PC and transferring it to my PS3 via a USB drive?
1 AnswerPlayStation8 years agoI need a fragrance that smells just like candy?
OK, so to start this... I have some unconventional hair:
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/012/c/7/mak...
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/283/6/4/des...
With the way this looks, I started pairing it with candy scents when I first did my hair this way, as for some reason people always wanted to smell it as well as touch it. So, I decided to make it smell the way it looks; colorful and fruity and a little like a childhood imaginary friend should smell. Some smell that you remember loving the heck out of as a kid, but don't smell as much as you should anymore.
Well, previously, I used a delicious, amazing marshmallow scent that smelled JUST like sticking your face into a bag of marshmallows and taking a big whiff. But, sadly, they discontinued it. There are still some bottles available on ebay, but they are just TINY and super expensive- 2 oz is THREE TIMES more expensive than the bottle originally was at 8 oz. I just can't buy it anymore, and so I'm looking for a new scent. Something like smarties or sweet tarts or fruity pebbles. Cherry jolly ranchers, nerds, skittles, gummy bears something that is definitely, undeniably, and uncontaminated CANDY.
It has to smell like the REAL THING, with no 'floral undertones' and stuff people talk about on demeter.com. It can't smell like chemicals or cheap cough syrup. Ideally, what I want to find is something that smells like you stuck your face into a bag of candy, just like my beloved marshmallow smell, or even better, a fresh batch of vanilla cupcakes. I had a friend that once used a bottle of lotion that smelled exactly like vanilla cake, and I can't remember the name of that stuff or I'd buy out the entire stock of fragrance.
Kids love to bury their face in my hair, and adults (Even strangers) always pick up a big handful of it and invariably seem to smell it and are in love with it because they expected to smell dirty hippies or rank, overpowering patchouli instead of fresh, fluffy, clean marshmallow. I strive to keep it super clean and I don't want to lose that yummy smell that goes so perfect with it. Right now it only smells like loreal kids watermelon shampoo, which is just not nearly as good. It just doesn't quite make me want to eat it anymore. :C
4 AnswersMakeup8 years agoShould I update my BIOS?
I am using an ASUS G73SW series notebook with a Win7 OS.
I have cleaned all unused programs off of my computer, run scandisk/defrag and two different virus scan programs and it is a clean PC. I don't overclock it.
However, it has suffered some serious emotional trauma in its life due to the fact that I spilled an entire cup of coffee on it and had to take it apart as best I could and clean it. It has for the most part recovered completely.
Well, it tends to overheat. I regularly dust, but I don't know how to properly take it apart to clean the fan and heat sink, since the screws to completely open it up are apparently not visible and I have very limited access to the inside. (I mostly had to use some live ants to clean the internals.) I built some legs for it out of epoxy resin and work in front of a fan. I have also removed the long piece of plastic covering the heat vents to improve air flow and removed the battery, but it still gets too hot for me to feel comfortable not worrying about damaging it.
I think there may be something wrong with the fan, as the computer is virtually silent when in operation, and I can only feel a faint vibration when I put my hand over it. It's almost undetectable. Also, the integrated webcam no longer works or is detected in any way by the computer, and again I can't locate the screws to search for the port to see if it's unplugged or plug it back in.
I was reading about ways to cool it down, especially if your fan is a little on the retarded side, and someone suggested that updating the BIOS can fix any hardware errors that may have occurred during the coffee incident and caused the fan and webcam to stop working properly. But, I think it's supposed to be really dangerous to update your BIOS as if anything went wrong, such as a power outage or error, you could turn your expensive laptop into a brick.
What do you think, is there really a huge risk involved, and if so is it worth it to fix the fan?? Would it even really do anything as far as increasing the fan's performance? Taking it somewhere and paying someone to have it done is completely out of the question.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoHPV question- scared!!?
Okay, so recently, my boyfriend noticed a small bump on my left labia minora while being especially nice to me one evening. I have had skin tags all over my body since I was a kid and typically just tear them off, so it didn't worry me until I had a look myself and realized it had never been there before. It looked just like a smooth, flesh colored poppyseed stuck out on a stalk about half the thickness of the tag itself. We briefly reviewed our sexual history with other people as well as our test-screening for STDs so as to calm each other's fears. He claims he hasn't had sex with anyone else during our relationship. We have been together for one year and one month. I obviously KNOW I haven't had sex with anyone else. The guy I was with before my current boyfriend was a virgin, and I had to teach him how to have sex, so he couldn't have been carrying any diseases. What's more, I got a gyn checkup between the virgin and my current boyfriend in order to get back on birth control when my rx ran out, and I was clean!
It seems like there's no way in hell I could have genital warts, right?
Well, since the subject was brought up, I decided it would be a good idea to do some research. I discovered that doctors use white vinegar to diagnose genital warts, even those that cannot be seen by the naked eye. This is done by holding vinegar against the suspicious area, and if it turns white, you are probably infected with HPV. So, I read carefully how it was done and placed a pad of tissue soaked in white vinegar against the suspicious area for ten minutes 'JUST IN CASE', and sure enough the growth as well as the area around it the size of a pea turned impossibly white. I tore it off, horrified and then I freaked out, am still freaking out, and plan on freaking the hell out some more until my boyfriend gets home and I can beg him to just tell the truth if he's cheated on me.
How could this have happened otherwise!? Can the HPV virus stay in my bloodstream for almost 4 years before showing, which is the last possible time I could have been infected?
Did he cheat on me, and then give me the virus? He looks perfectly fine and healthy.
Is there any way I could have gotten it from sharing towels with a roommate? I used to live with someone that had it.
IS IT TRUE that the HPV virus goes away from your body on its own, or will I have this FOREVER?
There is so much contradictory information online about this and I cannot go to a doctor- I don't have health insurance, any way to drive, and I live in the middle of nowhere 20 miles from the nearest planned parenthood. PLEASE tell me what's going on, this is probably my only way to help myself.
4 AnswersSTDs8 years agoGoogle safesearch not working?
I have my safesearch set to 'strict' as I work in a room full of children. I did a perfectly innocuous search for 'blue flannel' and had to slam my computer shut when explicit images appeared in the image search results. Every search I do, no matter how mundane, yeilds explicit images of body parts. I don't understand why, when I have everything as strict as possible, searching for an image of fried chicken or mixing bowls turns up a woman's genitalia or an erect penis in front of my nieces and nephews.
What can I do!? I cannot move the computer to a private area, and I cannot work after hours when the kids are asleep.
3 AnswersGoogle8 years agoWacom tablet problems/Bamboo Pen (NOT touch, JUST Pen.)?
I am using a PC Asus notebook G4 series with Windows 7. For some reason my tablet isn't working properly, and I don't know why. I haven't changed any settings on here, it hasn't been damaged nor has my computer, and it was working just fine when I painted a picture two days ago.
At first, the tap-clicks weren't working, and I updated my drivers. Now it sometimes works, but I have to tap about 6-7 times before it registers the click and reacts to it although it makes a 'click' sound every time. I really need the tap click, as I use the tablet more often than I use a mouse.
Also, if I try to draw in photoshop, about half the time it switches to the 'hand' tool when I click and moves the layer/document around instead of drawing, even though I have the brush tool selected. Also, even though the pen button is configured to right-click, nothing happens. I have messed with the pen settings again and again, restarted, re-installed the tablet drivers, reset to factory defaults, nothing. Sadly, trying to search for a solution only yields advertisements and purchasing websites and no help.
I rely on my tablet working in photoshop for my income, as my work is graphics design. Please help!
2 AnswersAdd-ons8 years agoSapnish word for 'downer?'?
I have a comic strip with a crow appearing in it now and then that only speaks Spanish, but my Spanish isn't exactly spectacular. The situation is, she turns on the radio, and someone comes and turns it off. She's supposed to say 'Downer!' Or 'Buzz kill!' Or something very similar.
In this context, what is the proper word to use when someone is 'being a downer' or killing the mood?

1 AnswerSecurity8 years agoUnable to delete files that are 'open' in another program that aren't open anywhere.?
I'm using Windows 7, and trying to clear off some programs from my C: drive to give myself more space and faster performance, however, 1 out of 3 of these programs can't be uninstalled or removed because Windows is claiming that it's open in another program. I've closed every application and searched for the program in task manager, but am unable to find where it's being used, exactly. Is there any way to bypass this, or force-close every operation that isn't imperative to Windows itself?

1 AnswerOther - Music9 years agoBizarre laptop reaction to Prt Sc being pressed?
For some reason, when I press the print screen button( Prt Sc/SysRq) it causes my computer to drop what it's doing and go into sleep mode. It also started randomly turning itself off/into hibernation mode for no reason. The computer was cold to the touch (My house is freezing) and on AC; overheating/power charge is not an issue. Also, I am only using 1/4th or so of my storage space, and still have plenty of free RAM.
Windows just installed 11 new updates last night, and since then it's been having this problem. I tried system rollback, but the only rollback state available at all was from the moment AFTER the automatic windows updates. I can't find anything about how to stop this from happening, as I use that button a lot.
There are no viruses. Recently ran scandisk and defragged. Any help?
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoMake a mouse pass out with g-force?
I wish to humanely kill some mice that I caught in my kitchen. I have been live trapping them and releasing them FAR into the field across the road from my house, but I also paint their heads to note recapture, and recently 2 of the painted mice have been caught again, which means they are getting BACK into the house.
So now, it comes down to humanely killing them. Any kind of death is painful, and I don't have access to nitrous oxide or dry ice to knock them out. If I were to place a mouse in a plastic bottle and spin it quickly through the air via a string, would it knock them out so they wouldn't feel any pain when I killed them? I really don't want to be such a bastard and harm them, but I also don't want them pissing in my cream of wheat.
