Why not raise minimum wage?
Ok, while I can agree that $15/hour is a bit much. What I don't understand is the people who are against raising minimum wage.
Let's look at the McDonald's thing. Most only work part time, around 28-32 hours a week. Most are undereducated or uneducated so have little chance of moving up within that company, or finding a different job that pays better. Some are in school, trying to better their lot in life, but still must live off the money they earn from this single job. Now, the people who are against raising minimum wage tend to also be the same people who are against public assistance. But, how can you expect to have unlivable wage earners and NOT see them get public assistance? The fast food workers alone, most of which work at McDonald's, account for $7 billion every year in public assistance. If you want them off of this you have to pay them more. You have to pay them livable wages. FDR signed minimum wage laws into effect, and HE said that any company that relies on paying less then minimum wage does not deserve to do business in the USA (paraphrased). So this negates the lie that "minimum wage was never intended to be livable wages." So, why not make minimum wage be livable wages for at least a single individual living alone? Let it be federally mandate but state ran to ensure each state's minimum wage corresponds with that state's average cost of living. Its fair, and its ethically sound.

I mean in a way that doesn't make god look like a total jerk who sought to divide man and make us weaker by that division? I mean in a way that doesn't make god look like a selfish child who would rather destroy the creation of his creation then see them accomplish something great by working as a whole? I mean in a way that makes god seem completely unworthy of worship?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoConservatives, do you understand the 1st Amendment?
Here it is, in its entirety.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Do you understand that the first line protects our freedom FROM religion? Without which the second line, protecting freedom of religious choice, would be IMPOSSIBLE? Do you understand that by placing your religious imagery in PUBLIC buildings like court houses, you are violating this? Do you understand that by putting creationism in public science classes you are violating this? Do you understand that prohibiting marriage equality is violating this? Do you understand that trying to create laws that make it legal for you to use your religion to discriminate violates this? Moving on.
Here is part of section 1 of the 14th amendment:
"No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States..."
Do you understand that this means that NO amount of majority vote can be used to violate freedom from religion in your state? That state laws CANNOT violate the US Constitution?

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoEven if he does exist, why worship god?
Think about it. If your bible is true, and your god created the universe for the sole purpose of being worshipped, and if you do not worship him, he will torture you forever. He sounds like an egomaniacal jerk with an inferiority complex that is not worthy of worship.
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoWhat do you think of the WBC?
I personally think the WBC is a true representative of a devout follower of the holy bible. They believe every insane, debunked, and nonsensical word in it. They actively practice their religion more then any other so-called "Christian" out there. I despise them with a passion and think the adults should be in jail and the children should be in therapy, but at least they are sincere and honest about the pure nonsense they believe.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoChristians: You're almost as atheist as I am.?
First, this is not my original point, but an argument put forth by a fellow atheist. There are over two thousand gods worshipped on this world. YOU believe in one, denying the existence of the others. Atheists simply believe in one less god then you.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoChristians: Please explain this to me.?
Science has PROVEN that the dinosaurs died many, many, many years before man walked the earth. YOUR religion teaches that man was on earth within a week of its creation and makes absolutely NO mention of dinosaurs (don't give me that "giants walked the earth crap" because we both know you're grasping for straws with that one).
How can you possibly believe that dinosaurs and man lived at the same time? You KNOW dinosaurs DID exist through all the evidence of their existence. Now, why does the bible not make mention of them if man existed and recorded their history as far back as within a week of earth's creation? Why is it more reasonable for you to think science has it wrong? Why is it more reasonable to you to think that man and dinosaur roamed the earth at the same time then to read the bible and think, "well, these people obviously never scientifically studied earths history. they must be just trying to explain the things they see and do not understand by calling it magic and gods."
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoWhy do Christians want us to disprove them?
Belief in your god is your theory. It is up to you to prove to us that he exists, not up to us to prove to you that he doesn't. When atheists say something is a fact, we show supporting evidence to prove that our statement is fact. We do not tell you something and then say prove us wrong, that is logical fallacy. So, why are you not able to prove to a skeptic that your god is real when we are able to prove the things we call facts. FYI, no real atheist will tell you that it is a fact your god does not exist. They tell you that is what they believe because YOU have failed to prove your theory that he does.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoIf the bible didn't tell you god is good, could you come to that conclusion yourself?
The king james bible constantly tell us that god is good. Now, imagine if it never did. Imagine if every verse that says god is good was not in the bible. Next, think of the rest of the bible and ask yourself if you could, just from reading the remaining parts of the bible, come to the conclusion that god, the destroyer of cities and worlds that do not worship him, is good; or could the bible's god be a product of a culture seeking to justify it's methods and actions against other cultures?
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoHow do you get CoD4:MW?
Ok, so I'm joining the game a bit late and I'm hoping I can get this working because I bought the game for online play. Anyway, I bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare the other day for my PC. It works fine for single player, but I cannot get multiplayer to work. I have Windows 7 so I'm hoping there is just some configuration issue I haven't looked into yet. 3 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoWhere can I find grant information?
I want to start a nonprofit organization that helps the community with needs both basic and not basic. What my nonprofit will do includes but not limited to the following.
- Affordable if not free day care for working parents.
- Temporary housing for displaced workers in need of help getting back on their feet.
- Employment search and acquisition aid through working with local businesses
- Help get people get enrolled in college or trade school.
What will be required of those who take advantage of the temporary housing.
- Residents will have to give back to the community that is helping them by doing volunteer work that helps the community.
- Help operate the day care center.
- Help each other through internal and external networking.
The goal of this nonprofit is to get the US citizens back on track. Get them to learn that we are the UNITED States, not the INDEPENDENT States of America. Get them to help and rely upon each other instead of the government for help. Get them to be able to be relied upon by those in need. Help them understand that everyone has times of need and that it is up to the community to ensure that no one is forgotten about. Teach them to be independent from state and federal government programs but not separate from their communities. Finally, to give them the ABILITY to be completely independent, but the willingness and desire to help build an interdependent nation of citizens that can and would survive regardless of the governments actions, regardless of what companies appear in Forbes magazine, regardless of what corporation is currently bending the ear of our so called representatives in Washington.
I want my fellow US citizens to come to the conclusion and understanding, regardless of race or religion, that our fellow US citizens are not our enemies. That we cannot continue the partisan bickering amongst ourselves and expect to survive. That we must stop placing blame on each other and start building each other up into the great country we all claim to be.
My problem is this. I don't know where to begin. I am looking for NON GOVERNMENT grant and loan information so that I can begin looking for help funding this non profit organization. Yes, I will have to abide by the law, and I will do so willingly. But I do not want to be hypocritical by telling people to stop waiting for the government to help or change while acquiring funding from state or federal government agencies. I have searched for a long time for the information I need to no avail. So, I am asking if anyone out there has any idea where I can turn to, to find the information I need to get started. I am just one person trying to make my community better, and I need some help. That help will come in the form of information now, and later, in the form of involvement. Thank your for taking your time to read this. And thank you for any information you are able to provide.
1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoHow do you start a nonprofit?
ok, I have several non profit ideas that I would like to start. I am in the middle of researching exactly where the most need is in these ideas. Information that I am having trouble finding is average start up costs, and other business ends of it. I am looking for information on how to write a business proposal or plan for one to show to potential financers, or even if a plan like this is needed in the non profit sector. I would also like to find information on the laws governing non profit organizations. I have noticed some actually hire and pay employees, other run on purely volunteer work. Any help finding as much info as possible on this would be great. Thanks.
3 AnswersGovernment & Non-Profit1 decade agoWhy do conservatives?
Why do conservatives blame the illegal immigration problem on illegal immigrants? This is a serious question. I'd like to know why they don't blame the hundreds of thousands of small business owners who provide jobs that pay tax free wages to illegals? These business owners are creating the problem by giving the immigrants the perfect reason not to legalize. Yet, conservatives seem to think that battling the illegal immigration problem consists of racially profiling, illegal search and siezure violations, and other civil rights. Lastly, I'd like to know why they always seem to forget that everyone in this country, outside of native americans, are the result of illegal immigration. Thats right. Our ancestors came here in the same ways that are now illegal. Also, why do they not question the Republican written law that states Cubans are automatically legal citizens just by making it to the states? Oh you silly conservatives and your silly little brains...
18 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoHow do you turn off or change settings for Windows 7 Updates?
Ok, I am reallly sick of this ****...Windows 7 was not my idea. Frankly, they got it right with XP and should have stuck with that format. I just got a PC with 7 not too long ago and cannot figure out how to change the updates settings. I want to turn them off or at least make it to where I have to manually install them. How do I do that?
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoAre all races really the same?
Ok, this might end up long but read it all to get the jist of the question.
We are all biologically identical to each other. That is, the same species. Also I mean for example, black males are biologically identical to white males, and black females are biologically identical to white females. You can interchange any "race" here and it will still remain true.
The only differences we have are on a genetic level. These genetic differences also show up in two black males or two white males. They show up in two males of the same family. You can change males to females and the statements will remain true.
Culture can only excuse racial differences so far. If I (being a white male) were to have been raised in a black household, living in a "black neighborhood," and completely surround by black american culture, would I not also exibit the exact same behavior, mentallity, and social conditioning of black males, therefore, other then the color of my flesh, could be considered a black male.
So, if the only difference between myself and another male from any culture lies purely at the genetic level, then are we still in fact a different race?
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoWhy do some need religion to believe in God?
First, I am strongly opposed to the idea that in order to believe in God you also need to follow a specific religion.
I feel I am an agnostic that believes in God.
That means, that I am capable of having faith and belief in God without having to convert to some specific religious standard. I have a strict ethical standard for myself, and I believe that God wants us to love each other and that is our purpose for being here, to learn to love. I believe that God did not create us out of a bored or petulant need to be worshipped just because.
So, my question is, why do some of you think that in order to believe in God and have a postive afterlife think that you need a specific man made religion to do so?

Ok, I asked a question, and want to choose a best answer for it. How do I do that?
7 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhy do you think this way?
This is an honest question. From my study of the Holy Bible, and being an agnostic, I can see a lot of wisdom within its pages. I'd like to know why "Christians" think they have to "serve" God as if God was incapable of doing things for himself? Why do Christians blame the devil for their own faults? Why do Christians always go on hateful missions that contradict the teachings of Jesus? For example, why do some Christians say things like, "God hates gay people." This is in direct contradiction to the teachings of Jesus. According to Jesus, God loves EVERYONE. Not just those who believe in him and follow his teachings. No where in the bible does it say, "God loves you, unless you are gay."
Why do Christians see illness as punishment for sin, instead of a germ infesting your body? Does everything have to be contributed to either God or Satan? Did you find a $100 bill because God sent it from heaven to help you out? Or, did you find it because someone else dropped it? Of all the possible, and reasonable ways that $100 bill could have gotten where you found it, you want to believe that God put it there through devine power?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agook, so anyone else disappointed with...?
So I set the mood. I turn off the lights, set the volume, and embark on the stupidest movie watching experience I've had in a long time. Paranormal Activity is without doubt the dumbest movie I've seen since its inspirational catastrophe, Blair Witch.
This movie is an atrocity. It is filled with a plethora of bad acting, terrible effects, and painful predictability. I am posting this to offer you, the reader, the warning I never received. I asked the people at the video store if it was good, they said yes. They, were wrong. This is not about personal taste here. It is factually a terrible movie. It is NOT scary in the slightest. It is a long, boring, uneventful snorefest.
Doubt that it is really this bad? Think about. Have you ever read a post about how bad a movie is on yahoo answers before? I didn't think so. This movie was so bad, I felt it was my duty to warn others of the travesty that is this movie. Only one thing in this movie caught my interest, and it wasn't even a "part" of the plot. It was bad lighting during certain seens where light reflected off a plant and looked like glowing eyes. But this was unintentional. You can tell it was pure accident because everything that "happens" is discussed by the characters played by horrible actors, while the "eyes" are never brought up.
Rent or buy this movie at your own peril. Consider yourselves warned.
