  • getting a tortoise ; advice please?

Im thinking about getting adult hermann tortoise, one that will hibernate of course. I didnt really want to leave him outside all the time in case something tried to attack him. If I brought him an outdoor enclosure and put something so if it rains he could go in a not get wet. Like when im not there he would have to make do with the shelter kennal kind of thing. But like if i was there I would bring him in. If it does rain is it ok to keep him in a large carboard box with food and water and bedding of course. And also that would be where he would be sleeping of a night. I live in the uk , in surrey so its getting warmer but would he be cold and die. I already have 2 baby hermanns which are housed indoors in a viv but theres no room for him and I would rather him outside. My baby hermanns dont go outside at the moment as its to cold for them but they will be when it gets abit warmer.

    Please help.

    Thanks

  • Tortoise Weighing ????x :)?

    Hi

I have 2 baby hermann tortoises and I weighed them today. When I got them they said they were just over a year old. I weighed them today and they are 40 grams each. I just wondered is this a good weight and a average. Also they both weight exactly the same but one of them seems heavier to me. One of them is really slim, has a short head and a tiny shell. The other one has a bigger shell and a much longer neck as well as head. Is this ok.

  • Tortoise Clipping !!!!?

    hii

My tortoises need their nails clipping as they are very long now. I just wondered how much it would cost me. They are only baby's and I will not trim them myself i want a qualified vet to do them. I have 2 and they both need it done so how much for 1 or how much for the pair.

Its also very handy as theres a vet round the corner for me.

Would they get cold if i was taking them round in a cat cage. I would put some blankets in there just to keep them warm. What should i put in there.

    Thanks

  • Will My Baby Tortoise Mind If I Put Another One In There?

3 months ago I brought a baby tortoise. Shes always happy. She comes out everyday for quite a while. She lives in a tank but i keep it on a steady tempeture so if she wants to move away she can. I Also have a tortoise table which i use for when im cleaning her tank and ect.

Shes very friendly , shes never gone to bite me or anything. But i wondered because its my birthday in a couple of days and i have decided and sure i would like another one to keep her company and happy. Would she like it or not? Loads of people have advised me to get another one.

and is there any toys or treats i can get her for baby tortoises ( shes a herman) and was born 2007 not sure when abouts but i think shes just turned one like last month or something.

    Thanks x

  • My Tortoise Wouldn't Wake Up?

This has only happened twice and it takes about 5 minutes for her to finely open her eyes. she sleeps under a cardboard house in her viv. she has all the lights and a heat mat for night. as it is cold should she be on the heat mat with her soft kinda wool on top but its not wool but its for baby tortoises. when she slept under the house in the corner she felt cold and wouldn't open her eyes but when shes on the heat mat shes fine. should i just put her on the heat mat of a night and cover her up as its very cold. i think its just because of the weather outside. Thank you please help ..

im sure its nothing but i just wanted to know why?

Its not often its only happened twice.

write as soon as you can

    thank you

  • Why is my tortoise climbing?

I have a Herman tortoise which is about a year old. She is very healthy. I wash her every other day and I give her fresh food and water each day. She is kept in a viv and has a temperature form about 80 to 85. She has a uvb and a heat bulb for the day which is controlled by a thermostat. They go of at night and the heat mat goes on. She doesn't get burnt as she is under a house in the corner. Though the day she will eat in the mourning and after she will start to climb up. She stands on her back 2 legs and reaches. She slips but im afraid she will slip. She cant really see over but tries to. Im afraid she will tip over.

Do you know what is causing this.

Can I do anything to stop this.

    She also scratches.

    Please Help...?
