Web developer, puzzle author, and all-around weird guy. I have a fair amount of random knowledge in my head that I'm more than willing to share.

  • What should healing stoma tissue look like?

I've had an ileostomy since September. I recently had a small collision with my kitchen counter and my newly-applied skin barrier cut into my stoma a bit. I stopped the blood using an ice cube as recommended, but just want to be cautious. How should the stoma tissue look as it heals?

  • When gifting bread, should I cut off the bottom of the loaf?

I'm making bread for someone in a bread machine. The bread from this machine turns out great, but the mixer/kneader paddle leaves a hole when the bread comes out.

Is it better etiquette to cut off the bottom to hide the hole, or to leave the loaf intact so it doesn't look like I'm just giving a partial loaf?

  • What would be a good cross-platform font stack for Jokerman?

I know this is a design no-no, but my client likes Jokerman for some of the titles on their site and have it as the main font on their product label. What would be some good similar fonts for Mac and/or Linux for creating a good CSS font stack?

  • My kimchi is too salty. How can I fix it?

I tried making a big 1 gallon jar of kimchi with cabbage, carrot, cucumber, garlic, pepper powder and flakes, and ginger. It's too salty even after sitting all week.

I think it may be because the recipe I used said to top off the jar with an inch of so of salt water to make sure that the kimchi stays submerged.

Any ways to fix it? Drain it and add fresh water? Add something to it? I'm broke, but I still have extra carrot, ginger, garlic, and a big of cabbage I could add to it.

  • My microwave keeps beeping and asking to enter amount all by itself. What's wrong with it?

It's a Galanz microwave - I can provide more info if its not a general problem. The beeps come at random times, but usually last a good 5 minutes and then require that I unplug the microwave. I've been leaving it unplugged for a while so that I can sleep, since around 75% of the beeping happens at night.

I thought it might be some weird communication signal screwing with my microwave since I live near an airport, but this hasn't happened in the first 2 or 3 months I owned the microwave. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

  • Why do cell phones ring or vibrate for no apparent reason?

I have heard about this phantom ringing and vibrating crap as a psychological disorder, but I have only had my cell phone for like 3 months, and I know I'm not BSing when my phone vibrates on my desk at work and other people hear it, or it beeps with a weird little ring tone sound that isn't even an option on my phone. What the hell is it?

  • I just got a call from UNKNOWN and it sounded like weird techno and there was no number listed? What was it?

I'm thinking it could have been a scammer trying to charge me for something, or possibly some supernatural force that calls your phone and tried to kill you. What do you guys think?

  • My plants have barely just sprouted and are already dying. What can I do to save them?

They're various plants I've planted indoors - watermelon, lettuce, tomatoes...The plants are turning yellow-white and some of them are starting to wilt. Are they overheated or overwatered or something else completely different?

  • What items from the grocery store can be planted to grow your own food?

I've planted some watermelon seeds I had on hand to get some sprouts that I may cut and use for salad greens or in a stir fry like bean sprouts - but what other things can I do easily, especially in an apartment with only light from a window ledge?

  • My license tabs are expired but I have renewed them - what can I do?

I sent my renewal to the state of Michigan but I am still waiting on the new tabs. Meanwhile my old ones expire tomorrow and I'd rather not ride my bike to work Monday since last time I tried that I nearly had a heart attack.

  • Where can I find cheap placemat advertising, and is it effective?

I'm interested in advertising my website on placemats, but I would ideally like the lowest cost that I can find. Since the website is not location specific, I'm willing to advertise in nearly any market.

  • I have dandruff but I am allergic to many dandruff shampoos. Anyone have a good and cheap home remedy?

The shampoo and conditioner I have been using has been causing really dry skin around my eyes to the point it burns and has been aggravating my psoriasis around my neck and ears.

  • My muffler is dragging. I will get it fixed Monday. Should I do a temp fix before driving it to the shop?

My destination is about 5.5 miles away. The car is still drivable as when it first happened I drove it home more than 5.5 miles. The way it's hanging I don't think towing it there would make any difference because it would probably drag anyway - maybe even worse.

From what I read, duct tape = epic fail, and there's no way I can get muffler tape any time soon. So should I try the coat hanger method of fixing it before driving out there or just go without it, or is there another idea I'm overlooking?

  • Is there a good homemade 'Jell-o' recipe that doesn't require gelatin?

I'm using Jell-o as a diet food and have been buying it and eating it as entire meals. I know it's not healthy, so I wondered if there were any recipes using fresh fruit or juice or possibly even jam or jelly from the store, like a jar of strawberry preserves. I do not want to use that Knox gelatin stuff though - I've heard of methods where you boil fruit juice but don't know where to go from there. Any help?

  • Is there a recipe for cream soda flavored truffles / chocolates / candies?

I'd like to try making my own box of hand-dipped and hand-decorated chocolates. One of my favorite beverages is cream soda. Is there any sort of vanilla or cream soda flavored candy/truffle I could make easily without a bunch of crazy ingredients?

It might be cute to make a molded candy shaped like a soda bottle, but I could just as easily (and preferably) work with a hand-made type ball shaped candy, so recipes for either way would be awesome.

  • How do I deal with a bad German Shepherd?

My dad got a German Shepherd puppy a year ago without telling our family because none of us like dogs and my dad is a selfish pot-smoking bastard. That being said, my dad has taken this dog to be trained, yelled at it, spanked it, ignored it, smacked it on the nose, put it outside, etc etc... to no avail. My mom lets the dog run wild and it basically bites and claws and jumps on everyone. My dad just sits around smoking pot being an asshole, but the dog sees my dad as the leader of the pack so my dad's behavioral issues make the dog worse too. It doesn't help that we have two cats, and I'm away at college 2/3 of the year so the dog doesn't recognize me and therefore doesn't like me. The main behavioral problems are begging for table scraps, not going outside when taken to the door, jumping up and putting paws on the kitchen counter, biting, jumping on people, clawing the door and ruining the screen on it, barking at night, chasing the cats, and generally being annoying. What do I do???
