First time dog owner. Still a puppy. Any tips?

    Hello guys,

we just adopted an abandoned puppy, vet says it's a wire haired terrier cross (should I assume fox terrier?) anw it's less than 5 months old he says. The puppy was bitten by larger dogs and was very scared at first. He wouldn't get off his cage for 2 days with the door open. After 2 weeks it's an affectionate cat-dog, if i may say. I have 3 indoor cats, i don't have a garden and the road I live in is very busy. This is the first time i have a dog and i would like some tips. Like how to make him not run away if released in a park, not to bark in the middle of the night and basic obedience stuff like not chewing on my laptop's charger -.-

I live in Cyprus so weather is summer 6 months a year. Any other tips about the specific breed.

    I'm 21.

  • Thinking of adopting a dog, i have 3 cats. Is it a bad idea?

We have 3 female mature cats, all adopted or picked up from the streets and spayed. The oldest is 13 years old, one is 7 and one 3-4. Yes, we've been having territorial issues for a year or two after introducing the third cat, but now they are ok i think, they don't love each other but no more fights. So we've been thinking of adopting a dog, as the shelters are full and we love animals, our house is medium sized and all animals will be indoors. The dog is gorgeous poodle cross (if you can tell me what breeds u can identify in it it would be great) here's a photo and info about it: https://www.facebook.com/265047623613419/photos/a....

Please have a look at the info in the link, and tell me if you think it will be a bad idea.

    Thank you in advance.

  • What contraceptive pill for university students in the UK? Yasminelle?

My girlfriend decided to use the contraceptive pill as a birth control method. She was a bit hesitant about the pill because they are known to cause mood swings and make you fat and she tried Yasminelle (Bayer) and there are no side effects. We both are international students so yasminelle was given to us in our country. We are wondering what type of pill is given for free from the NHS to uk students. Can we ask the doctor to prescribe this pill? Can we find it in the uk? I've seen people talk about Yasmin which is a bit different and we don't want to risk it. thanks

  • Which Photoshop for RAW and panorama stitching?

I am a bit lost, I am a beginner. Just bought my first RAW-capable camera and I want the best program for RAW editing. Also I am interested in merging in panorama stitching. By the way the camera can capture 3D images (for 3d stereoscopic tv) and only the cs6 extended mentions 3D. Which one is the best (not considering price)? CS6 or Lightroom? Also is the raw plug-in included? Thanks

  • Nikon P510 vs Panasonic FZ150? More MP and more ZOOM vs filters, external flash and RAW?

This will be my first camera, but I want a good one. I don't have the money for a DSLR so I will go for a bridge. The Nikon is a 16MP BSI CMOS with 42x optical zoom with the image quality second only to the panasonic but not by much. The panasonic is more expensive and is said to have the better image quality. It has only 12MP and only 24x zoom though, supports RAW, supports external flash, external microphone and you can fit filters on the lens. So the panasonic seems to be a more complete camera but as an amateur I just can't go for the lower MP and zoom. Maybe with teleconversion lens I can achieve the zoom of the nikon but how costly will that be?

  • Need help choosing between three bridge cameras? How important RAW is?

I've been searching for a bridge camera for a week now and I can't make up my mind. I need it for an upcoming trip to london and also I need it to capture close up photos and HD videos of fish in aquariums (i do that very frequently). Moreover I am a gadget guy so I would love my camera to be "fun". My budget is about £220 and I found some very good offers on amazon.

The one I am mostly interested in and also the cheapest is the Fujifilm HS30EXR which offers the most DSLR-inspired features (manual focus ring, manual zoom, compatible with filters and comes with lens hood) though I read some reviews saying that there is some noise in the pictures. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-FinePix-HS30EXR-E...

My second option is the Nikon P510. I think the fuji is equal. I don't care about the extreme zoom it of 42X it offers or the stupid GPS. Some say that it is less noisy but sometimes it has trouble focusing. Also it is 20 pounds more.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-COOLPIX-P510-Compact...

Third is the Panasonic FZ62 at the same price with the Nikon which lacks the tiltable LCD, reviews also refer to some noise, *only* 24X zoom and has 1/2000s shutter speed while the other two 1/4000.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Lumix-FZ62-Bridg...

I even looked into the more expensive and the Lumix FZ150 but I am not sure if it is worth the 45 pounds more than the Fuji. It has a 12MP only sensor which is noise free but IMO at this price 12MP is a very small number and 24X zoom. I can not afford it right now but I will save up if it is a MUCH better camera.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-FZ150-Compac...

By the way, only the Fuji and the FZ-150 support RAW. How important is it?

You can see, I am an amateur. This will be my first camera, I was always using the best camera phones but not a real camera (except the cheap compacts). So do you think that any of these cameras is a bad one or is significantly inferior to the others or they are pretty much equal?

  • Need help choosing between these Bridge cameras?

Hello, I am looking for a budget ( around 150GBP / 175EUR/ 230USD) camera. I am not much into cameras so I don't need a DSLR. I just need a good camera for upcoming trips with plenty of zoom and stuff to play with. Also I take photos and videos of fish (in aquariums) very often so I need something that will take a clear photo of (slowing) moving objects. I narrowed down my options to:

Olympus SP-720UZ: 14MP CMOS, 26x optical zoom, HDR, 1080p Video Recording

    http://www.olympus-europa.com/site/en/c/cameras/di...

    Nikon Coolpix L810: 16MP CCD, 26X, no HDR, 720p

    http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/product/digital-...

    Samsung WB100: 16MP CCD, 26X, 720p

    http://www.samsung.com/us/photography/digital-came...

    Panasonic Lumix LZ20: 16MP CCD, 21X, 720P

    http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/compact/lz20/specif...

more expensive option but it looks more value for money.

Olympus SZ-31MR: 16MP CMOS (not sure if BSI), 24x, HDR, 1080p

    http://www.olympus-europa.com/site/en/c/cameras/di...

I don't want to fall for the MegaPixel numbers and such things. Please help me. Thanks

  • Why is my cat urinating everywhere and how to stop it?

Hello, I have 3 female spayed cats. One 12 years old , one 5 and one (which we adopted a few months ago) 3 years old. My 2 older cats have always been using the litter box regularly until we introduced the new cat. The new cat has her own litter box. Ever since we got the new cat, the 5 year old urinates everywhere and many times a day. She is not "spraying" she is urinating and if we see her she will run away knowing she did something bad. Also they don't tolerate each other much. What do I do? I'm disgusted.

  • My betta is dying. What can I do? Please anyone help? :(?

I've had my betta (male crowntail) for 4 months now. It was a juvenile when i bought it.

The tank is a 10g heavily planted with peat filtration. Ammonia 0, nitrites 0 nitrates 10 pH 7 temperature 78F/26C.

I've been feeding my fish 2 times daily hikari betta bio-gold or tetra flakes and some Sera freeze-dried blood-worms once a week.

On monday I woke up to see my betta half sideways on the bottom with almost all of its tail gone (tail biter?) and not moving at all. If I tap the glass it gets really scared and hits on the plants and the gravel. My main concern is that he has not eaten since then. I tried different food and he totally ignores them. Some flakes even fell on its head but still won't touch them. What do I do? In a week my beautiful crowntail turned to a plakat and looks exhausted, pale and just won't eat.

  • Why do I feel jealous when she is not even mine?

So there's a girl i've been thinking non-stop for the last month. She is 15, i'm 18. I believe there's no such thing as love (well, define love) but I 've been thinking of her for so long, I dream of her and got depressed for 3 weeks when I was away from her. We do not know each other well. I am being social with everybody but her. We are like "hi"-"hello". She keeps a low-profile and I just can't go talk to her about something random. Anyways, I get so jealous when guys "like" her photos on facebook and when other guys talk to her and/or touch her. How can I control that? I saw a classmate of her giving her a back-rub and 8 hours later I still feel bad, sad and lonely.

P.S. I am not emo. Please no trolling here.

  • Peat in filter for neon tetras? ph fluctuation?

I want to add 6 neon tetras in my 9 gallon tank which is up and running for a year now. Ammonia 0, 'trites 0 'trates10 ph is around 8 from tap and drops to 7.8 when in tank. I guess that's a bit high for neons so I bought Sera Super Peat and put some in my filter. I've been also using tetra Blackwater extract to help reduce light. I'm buying the neons in a week. Was the peat a bad move? Will the ph fluctuate? How much water should I change every week so that the ph swing won't affect the neons?

The neons will be tankmates to a young crowntail betta. (please don't say that this is a disaster or sth cause not-that-aggressive bettas can be housed with neons)

  • Best digital camera to buy this x-mas?

I'm saving up to buy a compact digital camera this x-mas and I just want THE BEST. Not a DSLR or sth, i'm not a professional but I do use cameras a lot. I saw the Sony HX5 and liked it (cause of EXMOR) but I am not sure if it's the best for its price. Minimum requirements: 10MP, 10x optical zoom, not crappy lens, 720p recording, good macro.

Is Sony G lens better than Carl Zeiss?

    I saw a Fujifilm with 12MP and 15x zoom: http://digital-cameras.toptenreviews.com/compact/f...

    Is there anything better?

    Thanks a lot.

  • I stressed my dwarf Gourami. How can I reduce stress?

My dwarf gourami had a stone stuck in its mouth for about 6 hours. I got panicked as the fish wouldn't even eat, I net him and got a pair of tweezers, I managed to get the stone out. The fish was out of water for about 1 minute and I supposed that stressed it too much. Since I let him, he seems kinda weak, scared, hiding behind a driftwood. What can I do to reduce the stress? I put some prime and turned the lights off. What else? Will he be alright?

  • Rescuing a betta fish, cheap way?

Well I started fish keeping 2 years ago with a betta, I knew nothing, I put it in a half gallon tank no heater no filter. A week after I spent all my money and since then he lives in a 10 gallon tank, heated, filtered (fishless cycled). I have to say that I've been addicted ever since and now I am a geek. I recently (3 months) bought a 16 gallon tank heavily planted with a DG, 4 cories and 3 guppies. I rescued a dying female betta a month ago which I put in the 10 gallon tank with the male, I divided the tank.

Anw, nuff said. I saw one of the most beautiful bettas (Red purple pink crowntail) ever on Friday which looked perfectly healthy in a TINY TINY cup of water. I almost cried. I want to rescue it, It was the only alive one in there. The problem is I really can't afford another tank. My parents are going to kill me as I still buy stuff for my 16 gallon tank and we don't have that much space either. I can only buy a 3 gallon plastic tank like this: http://www.petco.com/product/12031/PETCO-Pet-Keepe... I have an extra filter that i put in the 16 gallon tank to build bacteria an hour ago, I may use it for that tank. I can't buy a heater yet, but the temperature is around 28C during the day and 20C during the night.

    Should I buy that betta?

  • Please help!! I just replaced my filter, will this hurt my fish?

I heard a boom looked at my tank and saw some smoke, it was the filter. I bought a new filter right away. My old filter was cycled and had been running for about 3 months, my parameters are ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 5-10. I couldn't fit the old filter media in the new filter so I just put some water from my tank in a bowl and squeezed the old sponge in there, the water became dark brown. Then I let the sponge of the new filter soaked in that bowl for about 30 minutes before squeezing it to absorb some of that mess of bacteria. I have 2 inches of gravel, 2 medium sized drift-woods and some live plants. It's a 16 gallon tank, stocking: 4 male guppies,1 DG, 4 albino cories (1.2 inch long), the new filter is a TetraTec IN800+ which is for tanks between 21-40 gallons (I couldn't find anything smaller, is it too strong?)

I'm leaving and won't be back home for 2 days so I won't be able to do any water changes, I put some Prime. Will my fish be ok? Will the tank recycle causing ammonia spikes and stuff?

    Please Help =/

  • 16 gallon tank ovestocked?

(I asked this many times but I want to be dead sure)

It's a (long) 16 gallon (60L) tank cycled and heated. I have 4 albino corries (not fully grown, about an inch), 5 MALE guppies and a male powder blue dwarf gourami. My filter is for tanks between 13 and 29 gallons. Can I add another male guppy or two or i'm overstocked? Do you recommend any other fish if am not pushing it? If i waited like two months for the tank to be more mature could i add a small school of neons?

    Thanks

  • Stocking a 16g tank, Thinking of guppies and dwarf Gouramis?

I have a 16g (long) tank, cycled. I have 4 small albino cories (1 inch) and I want to add some guppies and Dwarf Gouramis. Can I add 3-4 male guppies and 2 Dwarf Gouramis(1 male and one female)?

Is there going to be any aggression between them? Is it better to get only one gourami? Will the male guppies fight without a female in their tank? Am I overstocked?

  • 16 gallon tank, what fish to get?

I have 4 young albino cories in there (1 inch). It's cycled ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 20. I have some live plants. What can I put in there? Guppies, Glowlight/neon/cardinals, Dwarf Gouramis, danios? (can I have only 1 guppy or only 1 DG or they need to be kept in pairs or sth?) Please could you tell me a combination with the fish I've written? Or suggest other fish if they are not compatible

    thanks

  • Need some info about neon tetras?

Well I have a 16 gallon tank, with a good filter (says recommended for tanks between 13 and 29 gallons) and a heater. I currently have my female betta which is not aggressive (i think) and 4 (young) albino cories. I'm getting some live plants (plenty of them) soon. I really want some neon tetras (like 8-10 of them). My ph is around 8 and i don't want to add chemicals to lower it. I added some driftwood to help lower the ph. The neon tetras are locally bred so I supposed they are somewhat adapted to that ph. Are they hardy? I heard that cardinal tetras are hardier but my lfs doesn't stock them. Can I feed them flakes?

I will leave my tank to mature for a month before buying the neons
