I would like some opinions on any computer experts willing to give one!

Long story short, I have a Gateway MT6840 laptop that is 8 years old. The batteries (I have 3 now) and the charger are functioning properly. Either the power button is not functioning properly or the connection between the power source (whether it be battery or the cord) is loose. It seems to me it might be more of a power source connection issue. I have been told that to gain access to that connection, the laptop would have to be taken apart in all different places. There was something about these two parts where space cannot be created between the two, because of dust particles? Then, the connection could be soldered and possibly fix the problem. I hope I explained this well enough.

Couple other points is that the laptop was completely cool when I first attempted to turn it on, and after having someone take a look at everything, it did eventually come back on, but it is expected to be intermittent.

So, should I attempt to get this repaired or let it go and get a new laptop? Thank you for your opinions!

My SD card reader was working just fine. I had to format and reinstall Windows Vista to resolve a different problem. Now, my laptop does not even acknowledge that an SD card has been inserted. I have tried restarting my computer, I have tried reinstalling various drivers, and I have checked to see if the SD card can be read on another computer or my camera. The SD card is fine. The computer has all its updates. If I can avoid trying to reinstall everything, I will. Any suggestions? Other Info: Windows Vista 32-Bit, Gateway Laptop

I purchased a used reclining sofa, and it has a problem that I want to try to fix before returning to the seller. The footrest unlocks and locks just fine, and the back reclines with ease. However, the back will not return to the upright position when I sit up in it. I have to get out of the recliner and push to get it back to the upright position. Other recliners will return to the upright position when you simply sit up. Have you had this same problem before and do you know how it can be fixed?
