. . .get into the second year? I passed around 60 credits last year, are they still valid to use for getting into the second year assuming I get at lest another 60 credits this year? Or are they invalidated?

This alarming historical revisionism is something I've noticed after doing some research into the subject.

A friend of mine calls gin "poison" and says that it it's a really nasty drink. I drink anything from half a bottle of gin to a quarter a bottle of gin a night (with tonic). I do love my GnTs but of late I admit I have been drinking them as frequently as (some) people drink beers . . . Is it worse than other spirits? Should I switch to something else? (I'm a 21 year old m and have been quite a heavy drinker for some time, since I was about 17/18, if this is at all relevant).

So basically my grandmother died last Saturday, and her funeral has been scheduled for this coming Friday. I'm 21 years old and in the past few years we weren't really close, but I have plenty of fond memories from childhood . . . But I really don't want to go to the funeral, not because I don't want to pay my respects, but (partly) because I don't want to subject myself to all that sadness . . . it's not that I don't want to be there for support (cos I will be around on the day), I just want to pay my respects in my own private way . . . I don't want any part in the funeral. I know funerals aren't really pleasant for anyone, but I don't want the last memory of my gran to be her lying dead in a coffin, it just isn't want I want . . . . The problem is how to deal with my family if I don't go? I don't want them to think that I don't care, that's the last thing I want. I mean what should I do?

I have hooked my laptop up to an ACER computer monitor and it works fine but for one problem - my laptop screen is still on, I only want it on the monitor. How do I switch the laptop screen off and keep the monitor screen on?

I have an overbite and I hate it. It actually sticks out slightly more on one side of the mouth than it does the other and it makes my face look a little asymmetrical. I was told that I needed braces when I was like 14, but I didn't want them . . . How can I get my teeth fixed now? (I'm 20 now, a few months shy of 21). Would I need braces or what?

I read about the story in the Mail and I must admit my blood boiled to a degree that the room temperature rose considerably. I had to let my cat outside because of the heat, even though it was raining. Perhaps this blatantly satanic woman - this evil woman - perhaps that was her intention from the outset. The fact that she is a rather unattractive and - worse - overweight woman only added to me sense of moral indignation. Now, what should happen to her:

She should be fined

She should be imprisoned

She should be imprisoned for life

She should be burned at the steak and her death celebrated by an annual holiday

She should be handed death by firing squad

She should be placed in a bin and blasted into outer space

But I suppose our so called British justice will do none of these and Lola the cat's tortuous 15 hours in a large bin will go unpunished. And don't any of you sickos say that any of these punishments are too much - how would you like to be confined in a bin for 15 hours?

I hear conservatives say this all the time as they seem trying desperately to defame the left. But the Nazis in fact have more in common with liberals and social democrats in terms of economics (The Third Reich was a mixed, not a socialist, economy) and more in common with conservatives in terms of social policy (nationalism, Christianity, emphasis on the importance of family etc.) And before they started sending Jews to concentration camps, they were sending SOCIALISTS to concentration camps - if they were socialists, why would they imprison and execute their own kind? And they got to power partly through the fear of the "Reds" (Reichstag fire anyone?) Socialism is the common or state ownership of all the means of production and natural resources, operated to meet human need. That is the definition that socialists will give you 9 times out of 10 and even though it is true that the Nazis were "National Socialists" this doesn't mean that they shared anything in common with the majority of people who used "socialism" to describe themselves. Words are subject to different definitions - like "gay" can mean both "homosexual" and "happy" - obviously there is no similarity.

And people like Glenn Beck just ignorant of the actual history and common usage of the word or are they just plain malevolent and manipulative? Because honestly, socialists have next to nothing in common with "National Socialists", apart from using the same word.

Before you accuse me of fascism here, what I mean by 'legal' is legally recognized and/or sanctioned by the state or by a government. Marriage is traditionally a religious bond between a man and a woman, and in my view it therefore violates the seperation between church and state, and, by having it sanctioned by the state, it will either favour a particular religious group and/or people who are heterosexual. Now, by not recognizing marriage, wouldn't this solve the whole gay marriage controversy. I mean Conservatives what the tradition of marriage preserved but gay rights proponents want to do away with something which obviously discriminates. Maybe it should be replaced with civil partnerships all round for when it comes to stuff like financial wills, tax breaks, child custody, etc. etc. . . . Whilst marriage can remain independent but only 'spiritually', rather than legally bonding?

You know the type, the impressionable minds who are in love with RD. They read Dawkins' sub-standard book 'The God Delusion' (full of arguments lifted from other figures like Bertrand Russell, which no original material) and they know everything, liberally rubbish philosophical and theological traditions that genuinely have interesting points, liberally attack and insult the detractors of St Dawkins, think that because they're atheist they are automatically more intelligent than ANYONE who believes in God, who will deny all of what I've written yet still behave in accordance with what I've said . . . and who are probably red in the face with rage as they read this comment, fingers poised and ready to smack the keyboard with reply.

Now, what I am asking you is:surely these rather unpleasant people are nothing but a thorn in the side of those of us who believe in free thought and the careful and respectful consideration of opposing arguments that are essential to human progress?
