I am a Mommy of 2 with one on the way. I cook for my family at least once a day, if not more. I stay home with my babies and we love to cook, bake, and craft together. My hobbies are recipe testing/creating, baking, cooking, party planning, sewing, scrapbooking, painting, sketching, taking pictures, and doing things with my kiddos and hubby. I live in Texas where the weather is crazy and the cows are everywhere. Hook 'em Horns!

  • Substitute for cream in a lemon cream sauce (recipe included)?

I have a favorite family recipe that is so good, but soooo high in fat and calories. The sauce includes:

    1 stick of butter

zest and juice of a lemon

    3 tbsp sherry wine

    1 1/2 c heavy cream

    salt to taste

Chicken is cooked in the butter and removed, then the remaining ingredients are added to the butter and cooked until thickened, then poured over cooked rice and the chicken, topped with cheese, and broiled for a few minutes. What would be a good substitute? I'm afraid yogurt or sour cream would break (separate) when broiled. This recipe is so high in fat that it hurts my stomach when I eat it, but I love the taste! Help! Thanks!

  • 2-part question: Stroller decoration ideas to go with my baby's ghost costume, and what should I be?

My daughter will be 2 months old tomorrow (Halloween) and I made her a SUPER CUTE ghost costume with a big, fluffy tutu. I want to take her stroller with us while we take our older 2 trick-or-treating and to church carnivals. I've seen cute stroller costumes that are like a scene to go with the baby's costume (devil in Hell, cow in a barn, flower in a garden, etc.) but I am TOTALLY at a loss for what I could do to coordinate her stroller with her ghost costume. I'm pretty crafty, have a lot of materials at home to use, and can sew.

The other half of my question is- what can I dress up as, seeing as how I have no costume, or fake skin/blood, etc?! I don't want to buy a costume. I would prefer to dress up using clothes and make-up I have. And something not scary or provocative, since I have 3 kids under 5 and will be with a group of parents/little ones all night. Thanks!

  • New contact lens hurts BAD! why?!?

yesterday I went to the eye doctor and got new contact lenses. the left eye feels fine, but my right eye hurts really bad. it's a soft contact lens, and I've cleaned it several times trying to get the discomfort to go away. I've inspected the lens and I don't see and tears or anything. it feels like it's inside out, but it's not, and the discomfort isn't going away. I don't have a scratch on my cornea so I don't understand why the lens is so irritating! any thoughts? my doc isn't open today or tomorrow, and my glasses and contacts haven't come in yet so this is my ONLY pair, and I just got it yesterday. what's the deal?

  • inexpensive highschool graduation gift? HELP!?

my sister-in-law is graduating highschool and I have no idea what's appropriate to get her. My hubby and I are a young couple with NO extra money and our 3rd baby on the way, so any extra cash we do get has to be saved for the baby. Anyways, we can't afford to give her money or a nice gift, but I'd like to get her a little something. I was thinking maybe a food gift (she appreciates sweets as much as I do!). It's hard to shop for her because we have no clue what she's into... one week she likes the steampunk jewelry and the next she's into boho, or native american stuff! ugh... any ideas? list and and all you got! She graduates Friday night so HURRY PLEASE!

  • What color necklace to wear with zebra-print dress?

I bought this cute zebra-print dress for a wedding, and it's black and off-white, not bright white. I don't know what kind of jewelry to pair it with! I live in Texas and prefer the big, chunky turquoise (or magnesite) necklaces to dainty necklaces, so any suggestions? I had a friend suggest a strand of chunky turquoise nuggets or white buffalo nuggets, but I just don't know.

  • Texas Law question- can my landlord do this?

We live in Brazos County in Texas and have lived in my husband's grandparents' rental house. when we moved in, no rental agreement was drawn... it was just stated that we'd pay $400 per month for rent and pay utilities. so recently the landlord (hubby's grandpa) became a$$hole of the year and went ballistic. now he's served us with a typed agreement stating that we "must keep the home as presentable and clean as possible with two children" and that he can "inspect without notice with or without the tenants present." I tol my husband absolutey no way is that legal. I mean, my house isn't a wreck, but there's always toys on the floor... I have a 1 and 4 year old. cut me a little slack, dang. so my question is- doesn't he legally have to give notice if he plans on inspecting, and don't we have to be present? we can't really afford to move or I would have ripped it up, told him where to shove it. where can I find proof of the laws and rights of tenants?

  • How young is too young for Disneyland?

My husband and I will be driving from Texas to California in a few weeks to visit some of my family. Since we only make the trip every few years (last time was Oct 2008) I thought it would be fun to take the kiddos to Disneyland. My daughter loves Disney characters, but she's only 4 and I'm thinking she may not enjoy it as much as I hope she does. My son is 18 months, but he's free ad pretty well tempered, so he's no worry. Anyways, my daughter enjoys rides at the carnival and my hubby and I think she would have a good time, but I'm sure every parent thinks that when they plan a trip to Disney. What do y'all think? Is she maybe a little too young? I'm asking parents/grandparents with experience...

  • What to wear to a "WTF are you wearing" party?

My friends are having a "WTF are you wearing" party in a few weeks and I need awesome costume ideas. I was thinking something Lady Gaga-ish, but not identical to her outfits. I can machine sew a little so any ideas would be awesome. I'm totally stumped. Also, I need guy costume ideas for my hubby.
