  • What kind of icing is best for birthday cakes?

My hubby and I have decided in an effort to save cash to make the birthday cakes for our twins 2nd birthday. We figure we would make a buttercream to frost the cakes, but we aren't sure what kind of icing to use for the piped decorations. He says more Buttercream, I say Royal Icing, but we aren't really sure. Please help. Thanks!

  • I have a NIB Pentax Copy Stand III. Anybody know what it is worth?

I don't think it has ever been used. I inherited it some time ago. I have seen Pentax Copy Stand II on B&H for $1300, but I don't know if this version would be the same price since it is a discontinued model. I can't find anything on Ebay or any other online place.

  • How to clean a dishwasher?

I have a dishwasher that came with my house. Recently the dishes have been coming out dirtier than when they went in and usually have a film on them. I have used one of those dishwasher cleaners but to no avail. Is there a better way to clean this thing?

  • How can I tell the difference between a waxed wood and varnished/polyurethane wood?

I have a dining room table that is in desperate need of some refinishing. My mom bought it for me at an estate auction a few years ago and I am assuming its fairly old ( probably about 50 years or so). Anyway. I don't know if it has a wax finish or a varnish on it and I don't know how to tell.

    Anybody know?

  • Need ideas for 2 year twin B-day party!?

My boy/girl twins will be 2 on Nov. 22nd. I am looking for ideas about free or nearly free venues to have a party inside for them since it will be cold outside. My house and backyard is out, it's too small. We have about 10 families we would like to invite, most of them have twins so there could potentially be lots of kids.

My son is in to trains, my daughter is in to Elmo, and they both love to read. Thanks for your help.

  • How much do exterminators charge for flea extermination?

Just a ballpark figure. I've been fighting these bastards for a month and I'm sick of it. I vacuumed, put the contents in a plastic bag with Adams carpet powder, and waited. I haven't seen one dead flea yet. I'm through. I'm calling in the big guns, I just don't want to get ripped off. Thanks.

Oh, I'm in the ATL area

  • Which is cheaper? Gas heat or electric space heater?

So with winter looming and home heating prices soaring, I find myself asking, would it be better to use my central heating ( which is natural gas) or to use a small electric space heater in individual rooms and turn my central way down? I would also like to add that during the winter my thermostat is at 67 degrees or lower and me and my children have lots of sweaters, so you don't have to tell me about that. But sometimes it gets bitter cold and I want to be warm. Thanks

  • I have $9K, Do I pay off the credit card or pay down the 2nd mortgage?

My husband was out of work for 4 months and we lived off of an inheritance until he found a job. We have about $9K left in a money market ( at Wachovia of all places) and I don't know what to do with it. We have a 401K so retirement is covered, I have a small cushion for unexpected expenses so that's covered too. I don't know if we should keep the money, put it in a CD, pay off $7500 in CC debt, or put it towards the $30K 2nd ARM mortgage that will "adjust" in 3 years.

Is there anyone out there in the financial field that can give some solid advice?
