  • If I use a direct qoute in my story from somone elses work do I need to reference it and how?

If I use a direct qoute in my story from somone elses work do I need to reference it and how? I'm going to qoute the bible in a bit of dialogue and the character will then say something like John 3:16 straight after the qoute.

    So example:

"'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' John 3:16"

So do I need to then later at the end of the story or in a footnote say something along the lines of:

John 3:16, The Bible, New International Version.

And if this doesn't apply to the Bible, would it apply if I directly qouted say a book by Terry Pratchett and then what is the proper method to do that?

  • Qantas international flight to Japan, Carry on allowance?

I am flying with Qantas to Japan in about a week and I have a carry on bag and a laptop backpack. Qantas says you can have one carry on bag for economy and I was pretty sure also a personal item like camera bag, handbag or laptop. Is this the case? I am worried because I am using a laptop backpack instead of the ordinary laptop bag because my normal laptop bag wont fit the old laptop I am taking with me and doesn't have any straps to carry it with anyhow. So will the laptop bag still count as a personal item and if so does the 3 or 4 kg it weigh count towards my overall 7kg carry on allowance or is that just for the carry on bag itself and the laptop/personal item's weight itself doesn't factor into it. I have nothing else in the backpack besides the laptop by the way. Also for a laptop bag as a personal item does it have to meet any specifications or size limits? And if it helps here are both of my bags dimensions:

    My carry on is:

    30cm height. 38cm width. 15cm depth.

    So total linear dimensions:

    83cm

The qantas standard for international flights says: 115cm total linear dimensions.

    My laptop backpack is:

    40cm height. 33cm width. 8cm depth.

    So total linear dimensions:

    81cm.

My other laptop bag measured in at a total of 78cm.

And at the moment my carry on weighs 2kgs already so if the laptop counts as well towards my total of 7kgs I've reached it already :( with nothing but travel documents, medicine, jacket, wallet and ginger gummy bears.

Please can someone help clear up the ambiguous issue of "personal items" :/ It's so not clear to me!

    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Buying the Nikko World Heritage Pass online?

I reserved a world heritage pass for nikko to be picked up from asakusa and I think I had to enter credit card details, etc. But it's been a week and no payment has gone through from my accounts transaction history even though I have the confirmation email saying I have made the reservation. Does this mean I will have to pay when I pickup the pass from Asakusa and if so will I need my credt card if I did infact enter the details? Or could it be that it will just take awhile? Cause I also booked to go see a Kabuki performance and that payment went through like the next day.

  • Buying yukata and geta in Japan?

I'm a larger sized woman, an AU 16 or USA 12 and I am also 175cm tall. I was wondering if it would be hard to find a yukata that would fit me as I want to buy one as a souvaneir whilst I'm in Japan. Also are there any places I should check for nice but affordable yukata and accessories? I would like some Geta too but my shoe size is 11 AU and I often have to buy men's shoes or very plain shoes even here in Australia, are there larger sized geta or would I be able to buy men's geta instead? Also even though I'm a woman I really like the design of men's yukatas and wondered if it would actually be possible to buy one for myself or if it would be too hard? considering my Japanese is not strong at all and I would probably need to try it on first. Or are there sort of gender neutral deisgns or colours? I would get a female yukata if I had no choice but are there subtle colours? Because all the ones you see in movies/tv/anime are very colourful and feminine.

I really like the looks of this as it looks more relaxed:

Anyway, thanks alot for any answers I receive :)

  • Buying larger sized women's clothing in Japan?

I have been to japan before (years ago) and when I went I was about an Australian size 16 or 12 American. I remember I bought some clothes in either yokosuka or yokohama when I went, I bought a velvet gothic type skirts (size L) and it wasn't that hard to find, I mean i literally found it in a plaza whilst looking around and grabbed the first one I saw and it fit kind of thing. I also got a jacket from Hollywood Mirror that fits me to this day. And a jacket from Don Quijote. But I read on the internet somewhere that it's really hard to find larger sizes in Japan and according to an online size converter I'm about a size 17 by Japan's sizing. But I looked up a different conversion chart to check and it had little dashes after size 15. Is there a Japanese size 17 and is it actually hard to buy things? I want to maybe buy some tshirts for myself if I see any with cute designs and I'm going with a friend and I know she'll be getting some so I don't want to be left out. We'll definitely be going to Harajuku, Nakano Broadway, Shinjuku and akihabara so I'm hoping I can find something but I'd really like to know what to expect. Also I'm wondering if the reason I found larger sizes in yokosuka might be due to it being where the American naval base is.

  • Chinese action movie about an old woman who is in disguise and theres a scene where two women fight with wires?

Looking for the title of a movie where the action scenes are over the top awesome but all i can remember (as the subs were not english) was that there was a woman with white hair who i assumed the movie was about who was either like a witch or special for some reason but people either thought she was dead or didnt believe in her. The only scene i remember though has these two women on a boat and one or possibly both of them fight with wires which i think look like fishing lines coming from their fingertips. Anyone know whats it is called cause id really love to come across it again and watch it properly, ive googled and looked up top chinese action movies and things like that and i simply cannot find it :(

  • Chinese action/fantasy movie with a pirate (imposter?) who fights with wires?

When I was in Hungary there was a really cool looking movie on TV but I couldn't figure out what it was called. I think it's Chinese as the action scenes seemed to be of the sort or over the top style that I've seen in a few Chinese movies. There was a white haired woman who was I think someone important and was pretending to be someone else and that she was dead? Also there was this epic scene on a boat with a female pirate and another woman who said the pirate was an imposter and then they used wires or threads to fight... That's basically all I got to see and can remember. If anyone could help with a title it would be greatly appreciated I'd love to watch the whole thing properly!

  • Convert old rotary telephone to work on a digital exchange rather than pulse dialing?

Just wondering if it were possible to convert my rotary telephone so that it will ring even though its connected to a digital exchange rather than the pulse dialing thats required. At the moment I have two phones hooked up so am using the rotary one, it just wont ring. So if anyone knows if this is possible or if electrical or repair shops do that sort of thing or if theres an online tutorial i can follow that would be good to know. Otherwise I guess I'll just continue to use it as is.

    Thanks in advance!!!!!
