  • Periods and the contraceptive implant?

    Hi,

I got the implant in April 2011 and I've had no problems with it, periods originally came every 4-6 weeks, although long (2 weeks sometimes!) they were light. The past few months they became lighter. I haven't had a period now since mid may... Is this something I should be worrying about...? Is it usual for periods to suddenly stop this long after getting the implant...?

    Any help is much appreciated!

  • Why are men so complicated?

This is a bit of a long story, I'm just looking for advice and opinion on the situation if you could :)

Ok, I have been friends with this guy for 2 years, we met at college and he is Spanish and gorgeous, every girl in the sixth form wants him. Web we first met we were both in long term relationships, him with a girl who lived in Switzerland (so they only saw each other every six weeks) she is gorgeous and he was madly in love with her. In march she dumped him out of the blue after two years, he was distraught. Myself, I had been with my bf for 2 1/2 years and he also went to the same college. Things had been a bit stale steepen me and my boyfriend, by about march/April I knew I wanted to end things (we were going to have to split up in September anyway due to him moving to London, 350 miles away) I couldn't, however, Becker I didn't want to hurt him, ruin his up coming exams or our holiday thy we had ahead booked since August. At the beginning of may, my Spanish friend took y best friends virginity after a drunken night out, splitting up the lesbian relationship she was in. This caused a lot of fuss, especially as my Spanish friend was not interested in doing more, he just considers he a friend. During this period, he and I had been talking a lot via the Internet and becoming closer as friends. On the Friday we wet to a house party, which my bf did not want to attend and neither of my best friends attended either. Drunkenly I sat on my Spanish friends lap and we ended up cuddling and then later a few of us shared a bed, with em and my spanish friend still being cuddly, he kissed me and we made out a little bit. The next day when we were sober we discussed what had happene and I realised I didn't feel really guilty - it had felt right due to my lack of feeling for my boyfriend. He told me he quite liked me and that is was a completely different situation from my best friend. For the next week and a half we met up when we could and made out, eventually sleeping with each other the Friday after we first kiss. The following Tuesday I broke up with my boyfriend, realising I wasn't being fair on him. On the Sunday after my ex hacked my Facebook and found out what had been going on and cause a lot of fuss. That was 3 weeks ago, sic then me and my Spanish friend have web meeting a lot. I told him I was developing feelings for him but we decided it would just be sex because he said he 'couldn't be in a relationship' coz he was too get from his break up. He has two personalities, when we're alone he's sweet and caring, when were with friends he ignores me a lot an if he isn't ignoring me he tends to take the piss and playfully put me down, which I don't really like. I falling more and more in love with him but I have no idea how he feels. This is all ridiculous, as he's going back to Spain next Friday and I worn see him for six weeks until the 2week holiday at his house we have planned with friends. After hat he's going to uni in London and I'm unlikely to see him again.. Or very often if I do see him. My head is such a mess, should I even be bothering? Or should I just let go? I try not to love him, but I can't help it...

  • Chronic feeling of UTI?

First and foremost, I have visited my doctor about this several times, treated with different doses of antibiotics with no avail. He basically told me there was nothing he could do at my last visit.

I would like someone with informed knowledge to help me out please!

In October 2010 I got my first UTI (tested by my doctor) I got antibiotics from my doctor which I took for the required time. The symptoms vastly improved, but ever since I have suffered with an uncomfortable feeling of irritation of the urethra. ANother doctor sent of a sample to the lab which showed white blood cells in the urine hinting at a UTI, he prescribed my antibiotics and nothing happened basically. This flares up only when I haven't drunk enough (for example if I urinate in the morning and I haven't drunk around 500ml by 11am I will feel uncomfortable). The symptoms disappear when I have had enough to drink. This is extremely irritating and frustrating because no one seems to be able to help me. I have to constantly have a drink with me. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Does anyone know what it is and/or how to improve or get rid of it?

    Thank you x

  • Personal statement critique? :)?

a little critique on my UCAS personal statement for medical school?

I'm on the maximum number of character's I can have to fit in the box I need it to...so anything that needs changing or sounds odd let me know pleasee :)

    thank you in advance :)

    statement:

My aptitude for science and my desire to know the intricacies of how the world works began with my grandparents’ life-limiting illnesses; this initially motivated me towards a career in medicine.

My Grandfather suffered from prostate cancer for five years before it metastasised to his bones and became terminal. I learned about surgery and palliative care as I witnessed the hospital working together towards a common goal; helping to improve quality of life. Medicine was not just about ‘curing’ someone, but about managing their illness. I became intrigued, adding to a desire I already possessed to become a doctor.

In September I arranged to shadow a consultant of colorectal surgery for three days. I observed him and his registrars in clinic, ward rounds, day surgery, and complex surgery. During an interdisciplinary diagnostic meeting I witnessed how specialties within the hospital cooperate together as a team to diagnose and determine treatment of complex cases. I found this rewarding and insightful and it confirmed my desire to become a doctor.

I witnessed how specialties within the hospital collaborate as a team to diagnose and treat complex cases: one surgery I witnessed was a laparoscope assisted right hemicolectomy, in which an 86-year-old man with previous cardiovascular issues had a cancerous tumour removed from his large bowel. The lengthy operation allowed me to appreciate the difficulties faced by surgeons and doctors under the pressures of a high risk patient; teamwork between the consultant, his registrar, the anaesthetist and the scrub nurse was essential.

Currently, I volunteer at a local nursing home for one day a week. I am involved in personal care of severely physically and/or mentally disabled residents. I have a position of responsibility; when carrying out my shift I am in charge of the fulfilment of clients’ specific care requirements. I am compassionate and empathic to the residents. One client suffers from dementia and is distressed when male carers are assigned to clean her; I have provided emotional support and taken over the care.

I reacted quickly when I correctly diagnosed a resident as suffering a TIA, I recognised the symptoms and quickly realised I was out of my depth and initiated help from the nurse so that, the situation was quickly brought under control.

I volunteer at a local hospice. I run an afternoon tea trolley, distributing refreshments to patients and relatives whilst also talking to them. I give emotional support to the families during their difficult time. I realised the importance of empathy through this work, but I have the ability to distance myself when necessary.

In March I will undertake a week of experience at a private hospital. This will allow me to view a different side of medical provision.

I am a member of my student union and I am head of fundraising. This involves working collaboratively to organise fund raising activities for our chosen charity and to refurbish our sixth form house. I am a peer mentor for the science department, aiding students with class work and revision.

I have an aptitude for languages and embrace any opportunity to use them. I travelled to France recently and I used my language skills to communicate with a broad range of people. I have certificates in first aid, obtained from St John Ambulance.

In July I will be spending a month in a school project in Uganda, where I will be teaching English to the children in the local villages. I hope that this will give me a valuable insight into the lives of those who are less privileged, and the hardships that they face.

I have a subscription to New Scientist magazine, which indulges my keen interest for science. I also enjoy reading around medicine: one series of books I have particularly enjoyed is the Junior Doctor books by Max Pemberton, which provide an alternative view on the medical profession and its stresses.

  • Is there any point applying?

I'm considering applying to Oxford to study medicine. In my GCSEs I got 4 A*s and 5 As giving me an A* percentage of only 44.44% In my AS results I got AAAB, As in biology, chemistry and french and a B in Physics.

Is there any point applying to oxford? or should I just apply to other medical schools?

Also, on Cardiff University's website it said they don't usually accept anyone without at least 5 A*s at GCSE, does anyone know anyone who got in with less?

    thank you

  • how to train snappiness out of a 10 weeks old border collie puppy?

we bought a border collie puppy just over a week ago and we adore, he's extremely bright and is responding to his name more and more, he is even starting to sit. he is picking up house training quickly and only has a few accidents when we don'tt notice his restless signs, he generally waits. the only problem we have is that when he plays and starts play biting, obviously not a problem, but sometimes he gets to rough and bites hard. he'll jump all over you biting at your face etc, and though you can pull him off, stand away from him, ignore him, make loud noises and him he sometimes doesn't stop and he starts to hurt people. I know he's only a puppy and it's what they do, I was just wondering the best way to combat this before he becomes to old to train the biting out of him? I don't want him to become aggressive, as he's an otherwise wonderful dog

  • Should I take AS level French?

I've just finished year 11, and I love french. I'm quite good at it as well, in all the practice and mock papers we did i was getting a*s. and high ones at that. not to brag. but for my a level options I have to do physics, chemistry and biology ( I want to be a paediatrician in the future). Because of the workload this would give I thought it would be best to choose psychology as my fourth option, as it is beneficial, but hs a lower work load than french. however, I'd love to do French. i was wondering whether anyone could tell me if i selected french instead, whether the work load would be too much? would it be too hard? am I better off choosing psychology or french for what I want to do later in life? help?
