  • The World's largest democracy has reaffirmed its faith in UPA. How do you see this as an World event?

Indian parliamentary elections are just over and there is a resurgent Congress(I) and a more stable UPA in the drivers seat of the World's largest democracy. The World definitely will take a different course because of these election results don't you think - what with the world shrinking into a global community? Is there anyone here who believes otherwise? The rest of you - how do you think the life of Indians and the world are going to change?

  • How did the practice of wearing a ring when engaged begin?

It would make interesting reading if one would also add details of other practices associated with being engaged. What do those communities that do not associate ring wearing with engagement do for their engagement?

  • Are atheists antimatter for believers?

Well after all atheists must have some scientific explanation for their existence when they do not believe in the Creator.

  • When one wishes to have fun does ones wish to appear sober and mature come in the way?

I do not think I have stage fright. When I get on stage or when the public eye is on me I feel I must not lose the chance to create the image I wish people have about me - a sober and mature man. At the same time I also wish to enjoy the moment to the fullest and not be a spoilsport. Obviously I believe 'Abandon' does not match 'Maturity'. Am I confused? How do I sort this out?

  • Does everyone of us feel good after 'doing good'?

Then why does anyone do bad at all? Why is not each one of us searching for the chance to feel good? Is any 'Superhuman' scheming to make humans do what is not best for themselves?

  • OK the recession does not seem to have hit me right away. Will And How will I be affected due to it in future?

I am a government servant. I get an OK package every month and fortunately I am able to make ends meet just a little better than what I was a few years ago. With fuel prices down and inflation under control I have not felt any adverse effects of the recession now. In future will this recession affect me and how do I prepare for it?

  • Is it Evolution at work when man now demands a price for more of the things he used to do for free?

People I am told used to expect lesser gratification for favors done by them in the past. Fewer things were for sale and more was done just as a social obligation or for the fun of it. Friends and neighbors too were more more forthcoming with help and that too expecting nothing in return. Has man changed as a social animal? Is the change biological? Is there any scientific measure for this change and is this change reversible?

  • Do atheists see for themselves the scientific proof of every thing they believe in or need proof just for God?

The Taj Mahal is a beautiful sight. Have all Atheists seen it for themselves? Radiation hurts, juipter has moons, the moon has potholes, gravity is what keeps one stuck on earth while it spins - do all these facts need further proof for the atheists if they have not experienced them first hand or is it OK for them to believe Scientists and teachers who are humans? Then why is it difficult for them to believe that there is a infinite lot that humans do not know and one who knows all that is God, faith in God gives peace, patience, and promotes love, while making life more liveable, religion is but a convinient procedure (like socially accepted manners) to remember God, and like the Taj does not benefit if people visit it, science does not benefit from my trust in it, similarly God loves everybody.

  • How much of our instinct is based on our experiences and learning?

Our instinct changes with age and maturity. We know it is not just sixth sense. How much of the instinct is based on knowledge probably is what makes a person Scientific or Superstitious? Does instinct have varied proportions of Gut feeling and Knowledge at different times or is the proportion often the same?

  • Do you think your avatar is a true picture of the hypocrite in you?

How hard do you look at yourself and how honest are you to yourself?

Do you require to hide your true identity just to avoid spam or is it because you are not comfortable with your true identity?

  • I am unable to handle multitasking with my brain. Any suggestions?

At the exact moment my telephone rings and my wife wants to know how best to cook the ladyfinger curry, my Boss on the intercom wants to know the progress on the Action plan 2007-08, and there are 101 problems I ranked Priority - 1 demanding attention and action all at the same time.

Will you believe it - I am required to be extremely correct, polite and brilliant in all my answers just to remain alive in this skin God gave me?

Now what other measures besides running away to Nepal disguised as a Naga sadhu, or after downing two 'Salty Dogs' giving a sound tongue lashing to my Boss and the wife, would you suggest for me to live on?

  • Does anyone Love the same person consistently and with same intensity every minute of his life? Love changes?

Please feel free to joke about this. I seriously do not intend to believe that anyone can sustain the same kind of attraction for any one person all of the life.

Even devotion, sincerity and honesty wax and wane - don't they?

  • Do you laugh differently when you laugh at someone and when you laugh at a good joke?

Do you think people from a distance can make out you are laughing at someone's presumed stupidity or are laughing because you just heard a harmless joke? That brings me to ask - Do you think that when someone reveals a third persons stupidity and everyone around breaks into a hearty laugh, it gives the speaker the same satisfaction as when people laugh at a harmless joke he cracks?

  • What about the practise of Confessions in the church? Do the atheists have anything positive to say about it?

Agreed that Atheists also accept it is human to err, but do they say there is no one to forgive - so why bother with confessions? Or are they saying it is best to face up to those whom you hurt and seek forgiveness there (logical but is it possible everytime)? Do you at all believe it is somewhat relieving to confess to a third party? Then do you think the church has no role here - go search a friend you trust?

  • Does 'A friend in need is a friend indeed' mean -------?

Friends in need would mean friends who require help - No?

I am not saying the good days for friendship are over - but more and more friends in their thirties and forties seem to be having only 'give and take' relationships. Do people nowadays have the time and energy to just get together, have a laugh and extend real help without thinking 'what is in it for me?'? (I am not taliking of philanthropists - I mean friends who would not expect you to lower your eyes once you have received a real help and meet again).

  • If there is a third world war and USA were to lose in it will similarities be drawn between Bush and Hitler?

What really has been acheived by eliminating Sadam? Is Iraq and the world a better place now? Have any countries learnt any lessons?

I am optimistic and feel there may be minor battles for show of power between countries but the human race can not afford another world war and there wont be one. (No thanks to UNO on this front - I don't mean to take anything away from the great relief work it is doing in many under developed countries but it really has not solved any international political problems) But if there happens to be a world war soon (Bush in my opinion is spoiling for one) and (in the unlikely scenario) if USA loses will then Bush be called another Hitler or worse?

  • what excuse do you think I should give my boss when she finds out ?

I have taken the photograph of my boss pricking her nose without her knowing it and have been circulating it to all those like me who think she is snappy and 'nose in the air'ish. If she were to catch me at it what excuse do you think will save my job?

  • So what is a good question to ask and what type of expertise is best available here?

I am not all that familiar with the names of the nerds here. Most of the Answerers seem friendly and caring but not very liberal with very useful information. It is very rare to find much written in the 'About Me' column either. What holds the Answerers back? Is this a place where people uninhibitedly talk or isn't it?

  • Why isn't Humor there as a category in Yahoo Answers?

Jokes is not what I mean. Humor is an essential aspect of all lives and fields. At Yahoo answers Humor instead of reducing the seriousness of the purpose will make it more whole and meaningful. Don't you agree?
