  • What to get my boyfriend for his 21st birthday?

    Hi everyone,

It's my boyfriend's 21st this November and I'm in a difficult situation - he's doing Spanish at uni and it's his year abroad next academic year so I won't be seeing him from September to christmas day, except during my reading week which coincides with his birthday - luckily!

So my real issue is that me visiting him isn't his birthday present because I'd be going then anyway. Is there a good small present that I can take on the plane?

I was hoping to get him something REALLY good, could probably spend a couple of hundred pounds on him but the window of doing something is really small. I'll be seeing him for a week over his birthday but he'll be working 9-5 and I have no idea how to organise something lovely and romantic in Spain. And then I'm only seeing him from 25th december to 1st Jan which will be xmas present time not birthday present time. Should I combine the two and spend 300ish?

We've been together 3 years so I should know what to get him but I don't. Here's things I've asked him about that he doesn't want to do:

-VIP day at Man U football match (his team)

    -Driving experience - ferrari eg.

    -Hot air balloon ride

    -mini break abroad

soooo please help! He loves Topman, Allsaints, Man U, football, drake, one line comedians, big bang theory, friends, rom coms,

In the past I've got him aftershave, manchester united dvd, clothes, and things to do with the bedroom :P

  • Songs with the same meaning as "Hopelessly devoted to you"?

I'm rewriting the Grease script so that it's appropriate for primary school age and I need to change the song "hopelessly devoted to you" to something more upbeat and preferably more modern. I'm thinking along the lines of Taylor Swift's "teardrops on my guitar" but that doesn't really fit :/

    any ideas?

  • Can anyone give me advice about my relationship? It's a short question?

Has this ever happened to anyone?

One day I feel really loved up and that I can't live without him, would marry him, he's perfect etc. Then the next day, for no apparent reason at all, I just feel nothing - like i don't care either way and would be fine if we broke up etc.

I don't know what's going on in my own head. He's an amazing guy but maybe too nice (never argues, does exactly what i want all the time etc) what do you think? Any advice at all please...

    P.S He's 19 and I'm 18

  • How to lose weight?! What works?

    Hi everyone,

I have been struggling to lose the little extra weight I have for a while now and after doing extensive research, everyone seems to disagree: Slimming World has free food, Weight watchers says to weigh your food, even the NHS's advice has comments below with people disagreeing.

I have 6 months to lose a stone (which I think should be easily achievable) But I also want to be nice and toned for my holiday in August :) I weigh 10 stone, am 18 years old and 5"7!

So what should I eat/shouldn't I eat ( I know it needs to be a lifestyle change) furthermore what exerise should I do? I do 2 half an hour walks uphill a week, I dance 3 times a week and try to swim once a week as well as go to the gym once a week. Please help! I've had an information overload and need a real person to help!

    Thanks!

  • How to make a train journey romantic?

    Hi all,

I have just discovered that due to play rehearsals, I have to leave my boyfriend's (who is at Uni) and come home the night of valentine's day. It's a five hour train journey so will probably be from say 5.30-10.30pm. He will be travelling home with me as he wants to spend the weekend at home. So...question is - how can we make this romantic?! Be creative. I'm 17, he's 19 :)

    Thanks in advance

My boyfriend has this assignment at uni, but he's not good at essays (silly boy chose history as a module within Spanish studies) im good at English and history but have never studied Spanish history so dont know how to advise him to answer it :( Here it is: According to Franco, "our victory was the triumph of Spain against the anti Spain. The heroic re-conquest of the Fatherland that was moving headlong down the path of destruction." discuss.

How do you go about doing a 'discuss' essay? I've only ever done factors/how far.do you agree :/

  • what do you think of this opening?

Please be constructive, I appreciate all criticisms!

Once upon a time a girl called Ella lived with her parents in a small, picturesque village. Nothing exciting or dangerous ever happened to her and she was in no way important or responsible for millions of lives.

    If only.

My life was once a monotonous bore consisting of coursework, exams and working at the pool but Nathan changed all that. I can remember the first time I saw him so easily; I’d been relaxing in The Port waiting for a new kid that Mrs Peters wanted me to look after on their first day. It was just typical of me to get stuck with someone following me all day whilst they learnt the ropes. I like my space and did not relish the opportunity to have my own personal stalker – they’d probably smell and ask irritating questions and also I’d have to have my ‘’smiley work face’’ on all day.

I glanced at my watch, they were running late and I did not want to be late to Biology, though I supposed they would be late with me, proving I had a legitimate reason for my tardiness. Happy coincidence meant that this new person was taking the same A levels as me – they were in every single one of my lessons, including free periods, great.

The bell went just as he walked through the door. I’m pretty sure my mouth dropped open at the sight of him; a very good looking him. Instantly my cheeks flushed and I thanked God that I’d made an effort with my hair that day. I stood up somewhat clumsily and walked over to introduce myself to this Grecian God.

“Hi, I’m Ella” my voice had risen at least two octaves, I swallowed, strangely nervous, “You’re stuck with me today I’m afraid”. I smiled what I hoped was a brilliant smile and he smiled back causing a minor cardiac arrest on my part.

“Alright Ella, I’m Nathan”, he oozed confidence and winked when he said my name, I was struggling with coherency by this point and just about managed to explain we were late for biology.

  • Anyone who has read Cormac McCarthy's The Road?

This has to be for a listening audience and so is a script and it's my English A level Courswork. It is set just before the book begins and it supposed to be in McCarthy's style. I understand that the whole therapy session wouldn't happen, just use your imagination.

(Man enters, Therapist stands, they shake hands and both sit down)

Therapist Good Afternoon. Well, (shuffles papers) I understand that you are here owing to your wife’s passing. It is hard to cope when a relative takes their own life however this process is intended to ease the pain. Firstly, how has it been?

Man I don’t understand how she could do it. (Shakes head exasperated) I told her that we were the survivors and that we must stay strong. She thought differently. She said that we were the walking dead in a horror film. Some cowardly part of me agreed with her and even thought about suicide. Then I would look at him. Small and innocent and vulnerable. Huddled in the dark and the cold corners of what was once our home and I knew that I couldn’t do it. I could not abandon him. She could.

Therapist (nods understandingly) Your son, how is he?

Man (sighs) He knew straight away. A blessing and at the same time disturbing. We were packed and ready to set off along the road once more and he turned and stared back at the clearing and said “She’s gone isn’t she”. I did not know what to do. How do you explain to one so young who was born into a world of such destruction that his mother has left him to face tomorrow alone?

Therapist I understand the difficulty; the main thing is to ensure that your son does not think that it was his fault.

Man That is a possibility. Though he sees this world around us; mere dust and ash and he is insightful beyond his years. He knows it is not his fault. He knows that she loved him.

Therapist (nods approvingly) Then there is not much else you can do, I think the healthiest thing for you is to not dwell on your wife’s death, your son needs to be priority number one.

Man Death is familiar. He follows me everywhere like some insistent shadow but I will not let him have my son. The child is my warrant and I will kill anyone that touches him. I once thought that life was sacred and precious. A gift from God. I worked hard to preserve it but I have been proved wrong. On this road there are no godspoke men. They are gone and I am left and they have taken with them the world.

Therapist The world is still here, it is different, yes, but it remains, and you and your son are evidence that godspoke men are on the road. It is of great importance that you plan for the future, what lies ahead for the two of you?

    Man We’re going south.

Therapist Why is it that you are going south?

Man It is getting colder. We must journey south. To where it is warmer. We will reach the coast and there will be other survivors. I tell him that we are good guys and that there will be other good guys at the coast.

Therapist Are you the good guys?

Man (hangs head, ashamed) There are things I have done that once upon a time I would have thought impossible. I have rummaged through a neighbour’s cupboards whilst he lies cold in the next room. I searched his person for keys to his cellar. I raided his food stores and hated him for having little left and no water. I do this for my son. I think only of him. In a world such as this things do not get better. They collapse and perish like a tower of cards caught off guard by some cruel biting wind. I am as good as I can be. He remains as blameless as the day he was born yet carries the burden of my generation’s mistakes like the rest of us. He worries that we are not good guys and I tell him we are carrying the fire.

Therapist What do you mean by carrying the fire?

Man We persevere to survive. The fire is found within yourself, it is hope and human resilience. We do not succumb to our situation and resort to evil acts.

To survive we carry the fire and do not waver from what is morally right. The boy carries the fire, though even he is unsure of what I mean. He always seeks to help others and never believes they should be hurt or punished, even if it means that he would survive. He is good. He will carry the fire alone when I am gone.

Therapist Hopefully you will not be parted for a long time?

Man I am in poor health. I was ailing at the beginning and in these few months that we’ve been travelling my health has waned and I am not sure that I will reach the coast. I have taught my son the ways of survival and I pray that he will be okay. It is that or end his suffering myself but when the time comes can I do it? I don’t think I could. He is the future and he will save us.

Therapist Is this life worth living?

Man I live for him and the hope that one day he will live in a world that is better. Happier. She didn’t have that hope and saw no point in existence and I could feel the same. I don’t. This harsh existence is worth it. My son deserves survival.

  • I really need advice - boyfriend wants me back?

We were together for just over 18 months, i met him when i was 14 and he was my first everything. Everything was going good, then he went to uni and decided that everything was gonna change so he broke up with me - it was all amicable and no bitterness.

Long story short after just over two weeks he rang me and said he'd made a mistake, he missed me, he loved me, we could work while hes at uni (its only 40 mins away btw) at this time i was okay, id cried my heart out for a week then picked myself up and tried to move on with my life. Question is what do I do? I'm so confused,it's unbelievable - I quite enjoy being single (feels like for the first time) and i don't feel like i need him. But I was happy with him and although i don't feel in love with him anymore i do still love him - if that makes sense... anyone been through a similar thing? any opinions or advice would help a lot!
