  • Preparing & Painting an Interior Concrete Surface?

We have a commercial retail space we are getting ready and we want to paint the floors. I've researched and understand the painting end of it. But I haven't been able to get a straight answer on the best methods for preparation. The surface was previously covered in a commercial grade vinyl 12x12 stick down tile, which we have just finished scraping up. I know that the concrete needs to be porous for the paint to adhere well but what is the best method for that given that the tile was previously down. Should I rent a concrete sander and sand the entire floor down so its free of glue residue or should I use a muraic acid etcher. The etcher just doesn't seem like it would be enough to eat away at the glue residue. AND I don't love the idea of working with the acid. I'd rather sand it down if that will both take the glue residue off AND prepare the surface for paint.

Any advice would be helpful!! Thanks!!!

I would like to make a spinach frittata.. (also with onions and tomatoes as the main ingredients). Looking for a good recipe. (i.e. what spices to put in and how long to cook on stove top and in oven.) I've never made one before.

  • Help with Baby Girl Names?

We have a few girl names that we are considering but can't decide on. We like names that are unique and uncommon, but classic or maybe historical (i.e. not made up or trendy)

(FYI... the middle name would be Alayne no matter what and it is a family name so they spelling will not change.. but it is simply pronounced like Elaine with an 'A'.)

Here are our top three contenders:

    Genevieve

    Augusta

    Freya (pronounced FRAY-ah)

    Thoughts and Feedback Appreciated!

    Thanks!!

  • What to do for a 1/2 day in Asheville, NC?

My friend and I are hoping to stop off in Asheville, NC on our cross country drive. We will only be able to spend about a 1/2 day there. What would you recommend we see or do during that time? (And I don't think we would want to tour the Biltmore just because of the time constraint and cost of admission) Also... any suggestions for great (not too expensive) places to eat lunch or dinner?

  • Baby Name Poll - Boys and Girls Names?

Please pick on boy's and one girl's name that you like from the following:

    Boys:

    Cassius (pronounced CASH-us)

    Cedric

    Shadrick

    Girls:

    Genevieve

    Ingrid

    Adelle

    Pheobe

If you have any other suggestions that you think are along these lines, I would love to hear them. I like names that are not popular today but are very "rooted" in history. I don't care too much for many trendy names or names that have gotten too popular.

    thanks!!!

  • Would you ever purchase a home in a neighborhood if you knew that a sex offender lived there?

Would you ever purchase a home in a neighborhood if you knew that a sex offender lived there? If the neighborhood was nice and otherwise safe but you knew (via those sex offender websites) that their was a convicted offender who lived just a few streets away? Many people believe that you can use it as a teaching tool for your children by showing them the person's picture on-line and talking to them about "strangers" and "stranger-danger". But I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Also, would you ever sell you house just because a sex offender moved into the neighborhood?

  • Do you feel sorry for John McCain? ?

John McCain was once a reputable senator favored & held in high regard by many in both parties. But now that he has been strong armed and derailed by the "new" Republican party (post Bush era GOP, aka Neo-cons). Between the nasty campaign tactics, and poor VP pick, has he destroyed his legacy in this last attempt for the Presidency??

(I wouldn't vote for him in a million years... but I do feel kind of bad for him.)

  • What steps would I take if I wanted to work for a local newspaper?

I am in my late twenties and have been in new home sales for the last 5 years and (retail management 2 year prior to that). I have a Bachelor's in Communication and post graduate training in clinical counseling, although I didn't complete my Master's degree and I did not follow that career path.

I am looking to do something a little more fun and flexible in the coming years and I've always thought it would be fun and interesting to work for a newspaper. Ultimately I would like to write for a newspaper. I have excellent writing skills and have done some blogging and a few, very low key, freelance pieces, but I don't have any formal training or real experience in this field. Where would I start if I wanted to break into this field as a new career? What steps could I take?

  • Americans... Do you think that public safety, fire protection, and education should be privatized?

Americans are so against national health care because they don't feel the government should control the health care system. How is the right to health care any different from public safety, fire protection or public education (all socialized institutions of society)? If police officers and fire fighters made money when we were attacked or our homes caught on fire, would that really work in the best interest of protecting the public? Why is it then okay for corporations to make money when we are ill? Why are Americans so blind to this logic? Health care should be a basic right just like safety and education.

    What are your thoughts?

  • Is the McCain/ Palin camp trying to tie Obama to "terrorists/ activists" going to back fire on them?? ?

The campaign and supporters alike continue to try to tie Obama to people like William Ayers - whom he has no real connection. Now they are trying to say that the Gamaliel Foundation in Chicago and Obama's mentor John McKnight were radical organizations and radical activists when in reality they are faith based organizations that seek to help disadvantaged and disenfranchised individuals through grassroots community organization.

Is this going to back fire on them? Considering McCain and Palin both have antisemitic connections???
