What movie did you think did justice to the original book. Has a movie ruined the lust to re-read a book you had previously enjoyed?

I've always wondered if anyone else has found a deep connection between the activities of their parents before conceiving, and the attributes of the offspring.

To clarify, my mother was an exceptional classical pianist when she was young. No one in my family had ever been great musicians before this, although my grandparents both loved to sing. She'd completed 7 out of 8 grades by the time she finished high school (there are only 8 grades of musicianship), but had only ever played for herself, and didn't know any other classically trained musicians.

Anyway, when she finished school, she decided to quit the piano, get a job, get married, and make babies - which is where my brother and I come in.

Since a young age, both of us have been quite musical, although we went in different directions. While he became a drummer, and quite a good one, too, I played guitar and saxophone, as well as singing. I'm in my mid-thirties, and my mother has only just decided (about 2 years ago) to pick up the piano again. Before that, there was only one occasion I ever saw her play, when I brought home a particularly difficult piece of sheet music, and asked her to help me to learn it.

So I've always wondered, if mum had never played classical piano for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week for 4 years, would my brother and I ever have become musicians?

My last boy rat died recently, and I'm totally against getting another rat from the local pet store. Im interested in getting a pair of same sex rats (prefer females, but will take 2 males so long as SAME sex), Would prefer not albino rats, but otherwise colouring does not matter. If you can vouch for the parents nature/personality that would be a great bonus.

What qualities/views of life do you hope your children learn from you? Do you believe you make a good role model for your children?

I have shared care of my boy, and am constantly battling bed times with him, and when ever I do get him back into routine, its changed back by the time he comes back from his dads. Any tips on changing sleeping habits quickly? (think week on week off)

Im starting my christmas shopping early, but I've also done a toy clean out recently and amazed at how many great toys weren't played with much before he grew out of them. I have a 5 year old boy who is in kindgergarten. He loves Ben 10, Batman, Scooby Doo, doing science experiments, cooking, drawing.

I want to know what sort of toys your kids play with often, that gets its money's worth.

Creative, sporty, game, action figures etc etc - if you have a toy that you seriously suggest avoiding please mention as well - some toys look great to you actually see them in action, or fall apart quickly or require mega strong batteries that still die quickly.

In particular for younger kids.

My son hates being stuck inside during the rain, and would love some ideas for creative things to get into so its not all just tv watching, xbox playing or card playing. He loves and is good at computer games, xbox and has a good memory. We have been playing memory (cards) and snakes and ladders. He tried paper mache but wasn't impressed about the messiness of the glue (weird - i know).

He's just learning the full alphabet at school, spelling out short words, learning to read. We read 1 book at least a day, plus reading out signs and things he sees, but I I don't want to force this on him as I prefer to do it when he's interested in reading and happy with it. He's proving to be good at colouring in as well.

What are some good things to get him into?

Have you ever had to explain something to your offspring, only to re-evaluate your point of view on something when you've actually stopped to think about it?

Do you change your behaviour to be a better role model for your child?

Im bored - need some new things to see - what links do you recommend? what websites do you spend most of your time or visit regularly?

I need one that doesn't watermark? I have to format my hdd and I have the only copies of some of my pets footage, but would like to put it on dvd so I can actually watch them.

also bonus thumbs up if you know what version of nero allows you to import dvd's and create chapters on movies.

If you only know paid programs - what did you buy and why do you like it? what do you dislike about it?

I would like to know what values you are trying to instill in your children - I am aware some kids get some things naturally, they only need encouraging, Im more interested in the values that they resist, and how you deal with getting the message through.

Please state what age group of children you are referring to, as it does change how the question applies.
