I'm just going thru some depression with the realization that people that i thot were my friends find it so easy to walk out of your life. For example, i just withdrew from nursing school because of some health issues, and have been dropped like a hot potato. No one even calls to see how Im doing. Its very disheartening.

I have a friend who has dropped multiple clues to me that he has suffered a great rejection from his parents at some point (perhaps during college) regarding his sexuality. When he drops these "clues" he breaks down into tears. If I try to help him, he completely shuts down. He is 32. After much emotion, I finally asked him flat out if he were gay. I have openly told him that this would not affect our friendship and I would be there for him, but since that day (18 months ago) he has changed his phone number and will not correspond. This comes after a friendship of multiple contacts during the day. I have long since accepted the fact that he is far from coming to me with these issues, if ever. I just wish I understood his perspective and the pain he must be experiencing. Why he would choose to abandon our friendship over this. It has been the most painful experience of my life. I am hoping for some honest perspectives that may help me understand his decision so that we both can find peace in our hearts. Thank you!
