  • Parking ticket for stopping in fire lane?

I pulled into the fire lane in front of a grocery store within their private parking lot to to let out my wife for a run to the bathroom. I waited there several minutes sitting in the driver's seat with the engine running. Suddenly a cop I hadn't noticed is handing me a parking ticket.

OK, I get how you have to keep the fire lane accessible to the fire department. But I was surprised I got a ticket instead of a "move along."

Is it legit to get a parking ticket for being stopped instead of truly parked (vehicle unattended)? I was careful not to obstruct traffic in any way and was pulled onto an area that was sort of set back from the driveway.

This was in the town of Brevard, NC, USA.

  • How to read the wear indicator groove in disc brake pad, Civic?

The groove is now about 1 millimeter deep, so I'm thinking it is time to have my mechanic replace them soon. But I don't know how deep they were to begin with. Not sure if I should keep using these for a while or not. Can anyone tell me the original depth of the groove or whether I should wait or act now?

  • How to set idle to 1500 temporarily for testing?

I have a 2006 Civic. The A/C service procedure requires running engine at 1500 RPM for 10 minutes with no one in car and simultaneously getting pressure readings under the hood. I assume there is a way to set it to idle at that speed for the test since manually holding it there would be impractical. Or do you just let it run at the normal idle speed (600 +/-) and ignore that part of the procedure? I feel like I am missing something simple.

  • Are there any birds that fly a loop or inverted manuver?

I was just wondering. I think I just saw two blackbirds chasing each other and one may have done a loop. Is that possible/likely?

  • Why does notebook paper have 5 holes when binders have 3 rings?

I live in the US. Standard notebook filler paper is 8.5 inches by 11 inches and has either 3 holes, or more often, 5 holes. I have never seen a binder that used the other 2 holes. What are they for? Where are these mysterious binders that use them?

This is just something that I have always wondered about.
