Why is my pneumatic air cannon getting very little distance?
I built a pneumatic gun using PVC and a 24 volt sprinkler valve. For some odd reason, after I fill the chamber with compressed air up to about 40 PSI, I only get about 10 feet of distance. I'm using a pocket nerf vortex which has a nearly perfect 2 inch diameter so It gets a nice seal when it is in the barrel. What I find bizarre is that I've built this before a few years back but I was getting MUCH better results. I could easily clear 100 yards on about 45 PSI.
From what I understand, temperature should not affect the decompression at all. I am basing that assumption with using an HPA system for paintball rather than CO2. The first time I built this, it was about 75 degress out. Currently, its closer to 50 degrees. Could temperature and weather be the cause of severe lack of performance? Anything that I might have done wrong? Any suggestions to improve?
This is the guide that I used to build mine. Pretty much the exact same replica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZJyoRJlG-4

1 AnswerEngineering1 decade agoWhat does Primary Recall mean for a conductor's position?
I applied for a Conductor Primary Recall through BNSF several weeks ago. I recently received an email asking me to attend an informational meeting and interview in the upcoming weeks. They described it as realistic introduction and training. This has lead me to a few questions. First, what exactly does Primary Recall mean? I've read that it means they are recalling furloughed employees, should I expect not to get picked up for full time work? Would I be expecting to compete with current employees for work? Or are they looking to have a "reserve" workforce....
Second, what should I wear? They used "interview" and "realistic introduction and evaluation" in the same sentence. It confuses me because I would normally show up to an interview in a suit and tie, but realistic introductions makes me think that I may need to wear proper work gear (i.e. steel toed boots, jeans, work gloves, button down work shirt, etc.). Can anyone point me in the right direction and give some proper guidance?
Much appreciated!
Much appreciated fellas!
2 AnswersRail1 decade agoWhy does my a/c blow out warm air?
So for the first time in a year, we turned on our central air conditioning only to find out that it is not cooling off the house and that it blows out air about 85 degrees. Yeah, not happy about that. We had a technician come out and see what was up and this is his conclusion: 1.) the heating unit in the attic and the a/c compressor are "unbalanced." 2.) the compressor is too small for the house. 3.) It has been overcharged with freon.
He told us that there was nothing that he could do and he didn't charge us for for the inspection, which was nice, but we're still out of an a/c... Now, what I don't get, is that if he had the meter to read the pressure, why couldn't he bleed off the extra freon? Especially if that can do damage to our compressor..... What does he mean by unbalanced? He wouldn't go into detail. Lastly, if the unit was too small for the house, shouldn't the person who installed notify the previous owner that the unit was too small? It worked last summer with no issue.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoa small hose came off the bottom of my carb on my motorcycle, where does it connect to?
I've got a problem. I have a 1997 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom and hose on the very bottom of my carburator fell off from someplace. Before I noticed the problem, my choke wouldn't make a difference if the bike the bike was running too lean and too rich. As soon as it warmed up, the idle would be way high and it wouldn't adjust with the choke. When I pulled over, i saw a small hose dumping fuel all over the place so I imediately turned my fuel valve off and pretty much had to zip tie it closed. It still runs and rides ok, but it idles high and floods easily. My question(s) is this: Where does that hose lead to? Its really tiny, between 1/2 and 1/3 of the size of the main fuel line. I pulled my air filter and mount off and I've found where it comes from but not where it goes to. My Haines manual says I have a Keihin CV carb, but there are only HD markings all over it. Plus the exploded view doesn't even show the bottom of the carb where the hose came off. My problems didn't start until I found this hose disconnected, I'm assuming that its the cause to my idle and choke problems, right? Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? I've already had one person tell me it was a vacuum hose, but why would a vacuum hose spill out gasoline?

3 AnswersMotorcycles1 decade agoHow long do i need to extend my cables to fit a set of 12 or 18 inch ape hangers on a 97 XLH1200C?
I'm thinking about handlebars for my bike and the debate is between ape hangers and drag bars. i've only ever owned drag bars and it feels like the deciding factor is going to be extending the cables to fit a set of 12 inch or possible 18 inch apes. can someone please advise me as to what i need to purchase and what i need to take into consideration if i decide to go with ape hangers
2 AnswersMotorcycles1 decade agoWhere can I find an old school velocity stack to mount on my Sportster?
ok, i'm bobbing out my bike and i'd like to add a nice touch to it by putting a velocity stack on top of my carb. i have a 1997 HD Sportster 1200 Custom. the only things i'm finding are this big shiny $250+ stacks from like arlen ness and that is exactly what i don't want. i want something more old school like out of brushed alluminum or brass or just something. better yet, if i could make my own, that would be even more sweet.
