I'm an orthodox Jew - a Chabad Rabbi would you believe :).

  • Tunes composed by King David (Dovid Hamelech)?

I've heard that there are some Jewish (or non-Jewish) tunes that traditionally were composed by King David.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any, and if you would be able to provide a source and perhaps a sampling (from youtube perhaps) of the tune...

  • Why do white eggs have less blood spots than brown eggs?

As a Jew, I'm not allowed to eat even a drop of blood. Therefore, before even making scrambled eggs, I check all the eggs for spots of blood. About two years ago I was in Russia and the only thing available for a while was brown eggs (until I found a store with white ones). I noticed that the brown eggs had a much higher percentage of blood spots being found.

    Why is this?

  • Hebrew linguists, is there any difference in pronounciation between the kubutz vowel and the shuruk/melupum?

Is there anywhere that actually has a difference in pronounciation? And if no, then why are both letters necessary (without the fact that vav can be used in Gematria...)?

Also, if there is no difference in sound, then why aren't the cholom with a vav and the cholom without a vav separated?

  • The origins of the Dreidel?

As children we were told that the Jews used to hide in caves during the times of the Maccabees, and when caught - they would hide their Torah scrolls and pull out their Dreidels (Sevivons) and start pretending to be playing dreidel (gambling). A couple of questions, and I'd like to hear everyones thoughts (I have my own thoughts, but it should make for interesting discussion).

1 - What would the soldiers think would be the reason the people were hiding in caves in the first place?

2 - What were originally written on the sides of the Dreidel?

  • How many reports are necessary to delete a question?

I'm horribly offended by this question, and so it seems are many others. I know I've reported this jerk for writing this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200911... and it looks like a bunch of others have done the same. Why is this question still existant? And does Yahoo EVER close an IP address?
