  • Are two stroke/cycle engines really worth double the displacement of a four stroke/cycle?

It's common knowledge that a two stroke engine same displacement as a four stroke has a lot more power. It's been said that it takes a four stroke double the displacement of that two stroke to make the same power. Is this true?

  • Why are European diesels more reliable than American?

This is what it appears to me. In the last 14 years, diesels in America have become much more unreliable when emission controls are added on. Yet they have the exact same controls in Europe for the most part, so what gives? I know the Europeans have more so embraced diesels for a lot longer time than we have so it could be because they have had more time to refine the engines.

Am I missing something here? Are American diesel engineers just bad at designing something to be reliable? I don't see much issues from ones offered in Europe.

  • Is there another banana pepper shortage again?

Went to Subway the other day and wanted banana peppers on my sub, well they told me that they were out and there was a shortage on them saying it was do to a bad crop. I tried looking into it but I'm thinking they are just b.s'ing me on it and were too lazy to grab more from the back. Can anyone confirm there is a shortage or were they just being lazy?

  • Netgear Nighthawk defective?

I just bought brand new a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 type N wireless router. Plugged it in and turned the switch on and the LED lights for Power, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghx, 2.0 USB, and 3.0 USB are dim and flashing. Did I end up getting a defective unit from the store? The Power LED is flashing Orange/Amber and there is a slight ticking sound when the LEDs flash. As far as I can tell the router is brand new in box and there is no stickers on it that would say if it was a reman/refurb machine.

  • Asus Q551L notebook DVD drive reads DVD and CD but does not play DVD?

My Asus Q551L notebook DVD player plays my game CDs well with no issues. The problem is when I put a DVD in, it does not play at all. The drive reads it (verified under devices and drives) but the movies do not play. Normally at least for my games, a message in the upper right of my screen pops up and says, tap to continue, etc, but not for DVDs. Any ideas? I've read its the laser in the drive itself, but in this case its reading the DVD just fine, but not playing it.

  • What are your thoughts on FN making a civilian version of the FN M249?

As some of you might have heard, FN Herstal gave us a bit of a shock of releasing a semi-auto only version of the M249 SAW for people to buy within the coming months or within the next couple years. I've read a lot of mixed comments on forums about it...some of which I would have only heard from anti-gun people and not pro-gun.

Being as its a belt-fed rifle, this might get around some state's and jurisdictions magazine capacity laws. However I have heard that it might only be allowed to have a 10 round belt instead of 100+.

I've seen some comments where they say what's the point of it since you cannot do a quick change barrel.

What are you thoughts on the firearm coming out? Price tag is unknown but it'll more than likely be between $1200 and $3000 for it. I'd would have preferred the M240 Bravo since its a .308/7.62x51mm instead of 5.56mm.

  • Should the Digital Millennium Copyright ACT really cover this?

John Deere and General Motors as well as other companies wants to make it illegal to use essentially third party tuners and such on their vehicles and tractors. With vehicles and equipment becoming so attached to technology (software) that they want to make it illegal to work on your vehicles. Also that you do not own your vehicle you're just paying for the licensing to use the software in the vehicle.

Use of tuners (SCT, Edge, DP Tuner)

Your own laptop to fix or adjust shift points especially for towing or racing (automatic transmission only, better fuel economy or more power.

Are manufacturers in the right for this? It seems like they just want a slice of the aftermarket profits that they have been losing out for years.

  • Bought a Cabela's bore sight but its just the casing?

I picked up a Cabela's .243/ .308/ 7mm-08/ .260 bore sight for my .308 rifle so I can re-bore sight it since the knuckle head s over at Gander Mountain had to send it off since they re-modeled the store to have the indoor test range for archery taken out to put in an academy. Charged me $30 to have it bore sighted even though I bought the rings and scope from them that day and had my rifle with me to have it done.

Well needless to say the bore sight was way off when I took it into an indoor range to test it out. After quite a few shots at the target (maybe 15 or so) I called it a day since I pretty much wasted a good chunk of time and money plus ammo. I've decided not to let Cabela's or Gander Mountain touch my firearms again when it comes to bore sighting or mounting.

So I picked up the bore sight laser casing. However when I looked at the rack it was on I did not see any lasers that fit inside of it. In fact all they had other than different casings was ones that sit in the end of the barrel and not ones that slide inside the casing that sits inside the rifle chamber.

Package it came in said an M223 laser or something of that sort but found nothing in the store nor anything on its online catalog. Anyone know what works in this style of bore sight casing? Or does anyone have any recommendations for a different a pretty good bore sight laser?

Rather not spend any money on having a gunsmith do this.

  • Has the Marlin rifle quality gone up since the buyout or is it still poor?

Looking at a Marlin 336 brand new in .30-30 for an extra hunting rifle. Looking at either the 336 Stainless or 336W. I've been searching for reviews going back to when Marlin was bought by Remington//Freedom Group. During that time the quality has gone downhill. Seen many claims from po'ed fired employees to shotty old equipment to them not being able to get a hold of old blue prints (which sounds like a major load because one could take an existing rifle, tear it down component, measure and throw it into CAD).

Well its been 6 years since the initial buyout and it seems to have taken to about 2010-2013 for the quality to go back up to where everything is fitting perfectly (no canted sights, stock matches receiver beautifully, etc). I was down at Cabela's the other day to see what they had as far as Marlin 336s go, they had none brand new, though I did try a brand new Henry .30-30. Talked to the gentleman helping me out if he has seen any quality issues and he says he has not and its been a good few years so they have all been sold and the new ones are in...not sure if he was just trying to make a sale or being truthful.

Has anyone bought a brand new Marlin 336 in the last year or so that has been superb to what was originally being reported or is it hit/miss with sub-par quality?

I rather not spend a boat load of money on a Henry (can't see myself using a fine Henry hunting dragging in the dirt). Plus used pre-remington Marlins are nearing Henry costs.

  • AR15 16" barrel or 18"?

Near the end of this spring mid summer I am planning on buying/building my first AR15. I am already looking at a partial lower receiver (missing the buttstock, etc) and was going to buy a complete upper.

Most of the uppers I can find are either a 16" barrel or 20". Since I will be using it for hunting upwards of between 25-200 yards at best I was thinking of getting a mid length 18" barrel.

Would I be better off getting the 16" barrel and swap over to an 18" or just try to find and pay a bit more for a complete upper with the 18" and change out barrels?

The lower I am looking at getting is this one from Stag Arms https://www.stagarms.com/lower-receiver-with-kit-i... with a few of the add-ons.

  • What would happen if this were to happen?

This is all theoretical but answer this honestly. If America was invaded and we were at war, if regular people were to rise up and help in the fight, most of us who are firearms owners but hunters in general, most of the ammo we have at our disposal is soft point, jacketed hallow point.

My question is this, the Geneva Convention back in the later half of the 1800s had ban the use of those types of ammo a long with a few others. What would happen to those that used that ammo to fight back during an invasion? Would those be prosecuted under international law or would they turn a blind eye to it?

Sorry if this has been asked before but in the past I have not seen this ever come up in a SHTF situation.

  • Halo: Nightfall not watchable?

I bought Halo Master Chief collection on opening night at the store and have not been able to watch Nightfall online at all. It says I have to buy the collection but I have already done that. It does not give me the option to watch the first episode. Is it something that 343i is working on other than the multiplayer servers or is this just another bug?

No one has uploaded the episode to YouTube at all other than first impression reviews and such.

  • Has Remington gotten their act together when it comes to making Marlin lever guns?

So I have been looking at getting a Marlin 336 full length barrel in .30-30 for hunting. However when Remington took over production 4 years ago it seems like the Marlin rifle quality went to crap. Have they gotten any better or should I just save up for a nice Henry repeating rifle? I know opposite ends of the quality spectrum but both are great (or at least use to be).

  • What would be a good beginner vehicle to learn manual?

I have been looking at a vehicle for myself for for the past several years (from 16 and I am 21 now). At my work every now and then we do have to work on cars and trucks with a manual transmission. And I have been looking for a good beginner vehicle to learn on and to also teach my girlfriend how to drive manual. Only vehicles that come with it brand new would be sports cars, European (BMW, VW, Audi, etc), and Rice burners. But I need one that is cheap to insure and work on (cheaper parts) and easy to work on (spark plugs easy to get to and easy to do an oil change).

Not sure if it would be better to practice on a long throw like an SUV/Truck or short throw like on a car. Plus a low rider car (sports cars even a Mustang are a pain to get in and out of for myself and I am only 5'9" and 140lbs).

Thought about a Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0L I6 and I think the Nv3550, AX15, Dodge Ram 1500 with the NV3500, Dodge Dakota with the Nv3500, Ford Ranger with the M5R1, F150 M5R2.

My main problem I have with driving a manual is either I don't know where the clutch grabs or it comes up too high on myself and my leg is in an uncomfortable position (too high to my chest), and either way at that point I end up dumping the clutch too soon and stalling out the engine. Right now at work if the vehicle is a manual I have someone else bring it in the shop.

No VWs, Hondas, Toyotas, Suburus, etc...too expensive to work on and have had issues with their clutches going out.

  • What is the quality like on a newer Marlin 336?

I've heard that since Remington bought out Marlin that the quality in the rifles has dropped. I've been looking at getting a lever action rifle for a bit in .30-30 for myself to use hunting while my wife uses my old .308. Been looking at the Marlin 336SS and been reading up on what people are saying about the newer rifles and some say they are good and others say they are garbage.

I looked at Henry rifles but they are a bit out of my range plus the Marlins are a bit easier to put a scope on (I know heresy to do so).

  • Issues with Windows OS 8.1?

Just bought a brand new laptop last month its an HP with Windows 8.1 on it. After the McAfee Anti-virus trial ended last night, I decided to download Comodo anti-virus. I've ran it for 2 years on Windows 7 without a hiccup. Well that is no longer the case. After downloading it, I unchecked 2 other programs that were going to be installed with it as well as a useless toolbar. Well those ended up being installed (these would be Comodo Dragon and Geekbuddy tech support). So now whenever I try to even turn laptop on, one either the screen does not turn on and to get it to turn on I have to force shutdown and pull the battery out and then restart it.

When I do this and I try to uninstall the unneeded programs I mentioned, the mouse freezes on my screen then I get the Blue screen of death with one of 2 messages that pops up:

Watch dog error or a Driver power state error.

I refuse to take it into Geek squad or any of the other so-called computer technicians as they over charge for a fix that doesn't resolve the problem. Not about to spend another $200 for the OS. And unfortunately when MicroSoft made this OS it never made a way to go into safe mode easily like you could on XP, Vista and W7.

  • Overheating issues with newer xbox 360?

I have a 250gb Elite that's about 2 years old now. I have it on a dresser about 8 inches from the TV and about 2 feet from the side wall. After a few hours of gaming it overheats and sometimes either the game (Fallout New Vegas) freezes or lags real badly. I've put a small 4" desk fan on top of it before or put it off in one of the side vents to help it cool down but that doesn't seem to work.

I have not had a Red ring of death. I also have my ceiling fan going at medium speed but that doesn't seem to help it at all. The power brick is Velcro to the side of the dresser. That doesn't get very hot.

I know the older Xbox had the issue because when made the heat sync inside had a glob of thermal paste on it and that caused a series of issues (only need a little bit).

What can I do to prevent it from over heating? I know I can give the thing a 30 minute break but getting my girlfriend to stop playing New Vegas now is like pulling teeth.

  • Why are small gas engines not rated in horsepower anymore?

Been trying to locate a small gas engine for a project but its hard to track down the correct size that I need. I've always done it by horsepower rating but seems like in the past couple of years they have been switching over to the CC displacement. Displacement of an engine does not tell me jack squat on how much power it produces. Top of that there really isn't a direct conversion to power out put.

I'm looking for an engine in the 12-16 horsepower but I'm not sure what that translates in cubic centimeters, I'm guessing its around 427cc-620cc.

But what's with the converting over from power rating to metric displacement? Last I knew I was still in America.

  • Where can I buy a Yanmar diesel engine?

Looking to find a small diesel engine for a project. Single cylinder 4 stroke small enough to go either on a Go kart or lawn tractor. Looked into getting a Yanmar LV70 but having a hard time actually locating one.

I have seen on ebay Yanmar knock offs that seem to be fairly popular, they are 10 horsepower engines and they run for about $600 or so. Also I cannot find any specs on either engine on how much torque they produce. They are governed at 3,600 RPM. I've also looked at a newer Hatz 10hp diesel but Northern Tool wants over $2500 for one...I can buy a new lawn tractor with all the bells an whistles for that kind of money.

I would go for a gas engine but, for chits and giggles it would be nice to have a small diesel. Ones I've seen are CARB compliant even though I don't live any where near California (upper midwest).

  • How is the 6 speed manual in the Super Duty trucks?

I'm looking at buying an 04 Super duty with the 4R100 auto transmission and gas engine and swap in the ZF6-650 manual from a 7.3L PowerStroke with a Cummins second gen 12 valve. I was just wondering how well the transmission held up to the 7.3L PowerStroke and if there were any issues to be cautious of. I would do the ZF5 but I need the granny gear and the ZF6 does have a better OD over the 5 speed, plus it having a built in cooler is a plus.
