  • Psalm 27:4 says 'One thing have I desired of the Lord and that will I seek...'?

'...that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever, to behold the beauty of the Lord forever, and to inquire in His temple.'

David was enamored with the thought of 'dwelling in the house of the Lord.' He spoke this often throughout the Psalms. He also spoke of the beauty of God.

What do you think David was speaking of when He said 'dwell in the house of the Lord'? And what was it he saw that was beautiful?

Just wanted some other perspectives on this. Thanks :)

  • My high libido is killing my marriage. What do I do?

I'm a 31 year old fairly healthy woman. For the last 2 years, my libido has sky rocketed. It's always been healthy, but it's been crazy the last couple of years. I think about sex almost all the time. Until about 6 months ago, it was always my husband that I thought of...until he started turning me down. I could have sex multiple times a day, every day, and not be tired of it. My husband turns 40 this year and works some pretty long hours doing very difficult and exhausting work. We're actually fighting over the fact that I want it so much.

I love my husband, but this is totally killing it for me...and him, too, I'm pretty sure. We just had a huge fight tonight, and I think he was on the brink of suggesting we split. We have 3 children, though, that I stay at home with.

Am I a freak...and not the 'good' kind? I feel like some kind of a whore or something. He makes me feel like a whore for desiring him like I do.

I just don't know what to do anymore. Please help me.

  • I'm pretty sure my dog is about to deliver. Is this a sign that she's pushing?

She keeps squatting like she needs to go. She's also having a fit trying to get into my children's rooms. I'm pretty sure this is her first litter. She can't be more than a year old.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvIGO...

This question is about her, too, if it helps any.

    Thank you.

  • Why have I not been receiving email notification of my contacts' questions?

For a couple of weeks now, I haven't received email notification that my contacts have asked any questions. I made sure I had that option still checked already, and I even checked to make sure they hadn't blocked me.

  • How long before I know for sure if we've got pups on the way?

Before you flay me alive for being an irresponsible back yard breeder, hear me out.

This dog is a stray that we got just over a month ago. She was running around my husband's place of work, and he was worried she'd get hit by a car, so I went and picked her up. Just under a week after we got her, she went in heat. We tried everything short of locking her in the bathroom to keep her away from the neighbor's un-fixed male, but she got away when my son opened the door. And he didn't tell me.

So the neighbor comes over and tells me they 'locked up'. *sigh*

We take in strays all the time and find them suitable homes. We can't stand to see an animal not being taken care of. We didn't have the time or money to get her fixed before this happened. So please, I'd appreciate it if I wasn't accused of being the scum of the earth. I'd just like to know what the signs are that we have pups coming. Thanks.

  • Science does not make belief in God obsolete, but it may make obsolete the reality of God. Agree or disagree?

Michael Shermer, the publisher of Skeptic magazine, in answer to the question of whether science makes belief in God obsolete (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgQ9L...

says, "It depends. The answer turns on whether one emphasizes belief or God. Science does not make belief in God obsolete, but it may make obsolete the reality of God, depending on how far we are able to push the science."

Do you agree or disagree with his statement? What is your faith, belief, or lack thereof?

  • "Science is not the only useful way of looking at life." Agree or disagree?

William D. Phillips, a Nobel Laureate in physics, makes this statement in a collection of essays begging the question, 'Does science make belief in God obsolete?" (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgQ9L...

He says, rightly, that all scientific statements must be falsifiable. He says, also, that religious statements are 'not necessarily falsifiable...There is no requirement that every statement be a scientific statement. Nor are non-scientific statements worthless or irrational simply because they are not scientific. "She sings beautifully." "He is a good man." "I love you." These are all non-scientific statements that can be of great value. Science is not the only useful way of looking at life.'

Do you agree or disagree with the statement that science is not the only useful way of looking at life? What is your faith, belief, or lack thereof?

  • Does science make belief in God obsolete?

This is the question asked by the John Templeton Foundation in a Templeton discussion. It is a collection of essays coordinated and edited by Micheal Shermer that includes the thoughts of 13 "scholars and thinkers of the first rank." The essays are in booklet form and can be obtained by ordering at http://templeton.org/belief/ for free. Just scroll down and fill out the box. You can also read the essays at this link.

I would like to have R&S answer the question above, but I'll be asking questions concerning some of the answers of the participants throughout the day. I highly respect the intellect of every person that contributed to this booklet, but I disagree, naturally, with some of their answers and their reasons.

So, R&S, does science make belief in God obsolete?

  • R&S...can I say thank you?

...to all of you that sent your thoughts and prayers to my son and family. = )

I just got the call from the doctor, and the biopsy came back negative! No cancer!

Thank you so much to every single one of you that sent your prayers and well wishes our way.

  • What do you do when you've lost all hope?

I'm pretty much done here at R&S, me thinks. I came here because I wanted to answer questions about my faith and hoped that I could do something to help bridge the gap between my faith and those of other faiths, or lack thereof. I hoped that if non-Christians could see someone that treated them with respect that they'd realize that we're not all Fred Phelps or Pat Robertson.

Evidently, it's not working, and quite frankly, I'm beginning to not give a flippy flop. When I see responses to a question that include putting Christians in padded cells or flushing them down the toilet like dead sea monkeys, or even threatening to turn our children against us, I realize that nothing I can say or do could change that mind set.

It makes me sad, really. May God bless you in whatever way you'll let Him.

  • What is your responsibility to your family and loved ones?

I'm a Christian, and I firmly believe what Jesus taught in Matthew 5 concerning loving my enemies, blessing those that would curse me, and turning the other cheek.

I think, though, that this is with personal affronts. Isn't it our responsibility to protect our family in every way we can? It was a song, actually, that brought this question to mind. Game On by Disciple, taken from 1 Samuel when David's family was captured, and he went to get them back.

What do you think? Are we to love our enemies and bless those that curse us personally, but defend and protect our family?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SedHZxqMi3Y

The link provided is the song and a fan-made video using clips from the movie 300. Be warned that there are fight scenes. I picked this one because I thought it illustrated the point of the song adequately.

  • Should cyberspace genocide be a sin?

Or at least an offense punishable by law?

I ask because it seems that at least one of my contacts has been suspended, and I know at least a couple more that are getting reported like crazy. It seems that it's been just the ones that are not Christians, and I gotta say that it's quite disturbing. Or as my husband would say....it's really fadiculous.

So, should it be a sin to commit cyberspace genocide - the killing off of an entire group of people's accounts? Please state your beliefs or lack thereof.

  • R&S - is there a phrase, verse, song, etc. that pretty much sums up...?

the philosophy or standard by which you live your life?

For me, it's a bible verse and a song:

Heb 12:1 Therefore since we also are surrounded with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily besets us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2F_KC1izR4&feature...

I love God, and I want to be like Jesus as much as is possible. This verse and song reminds me to be diligent, never giving up, fighting against the crapulence that is me. = )

How does your phrase, verse, song, etc, remind you of your philosophy or standard?

  • Psalm 34 - it says God hears us when we cry out to Him - will He deliver us?

Psa 34:1 I will bless Jehovah at all times; His praise always shall be in my mouth.

Psa 34:2 My soul shall make its boast in Jehovah; the humble shall hear and be glad.

Psa 34:3 O magnify Jehovah with me, and let us exalt His name together.

Psa 34:4 I sought Jehovah, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psa 34:5 They looked to Him, and were filled with light; and their faces were not ashamed.

Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Psa 34:7 The Angel of Jehovah camps round about those who fear Him, and delivers them.

Psa 34:8 Taste and see that Jehovah is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JN_Z3StQlI&feature...

Verse 4 says He will deliver us from our fears, and verse 6 says He will deliver from troubles. I have been delivered from fears. Has anyone else cried out to Him and been delivered from fears and troubles?

  • Psalm 72 - what does it say to you?

Psa 72:1 A Psalm of Solomon. Give the King Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the King's son.

Psa 72:2 He will judge Your people in righteousness, and Your poor with judgment.

Psa 72:3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills by righteousness.

Psa 72:6 He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

Psa 72:7 In His days the righteous shall flourish; and abundance of peace, until the moon is not.

Psa 72:8 He shall also have the rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxGYVTxwxxo

To me, it says that Jesus is not coming back as a broken man, but as a mighty King, with righteousness and justice as His means of ruling. The Psalm goes on to say that the poor and needy will be upheld by Him. He will eradicate the ills of this world.

  • Is there anything that can bring the various faiths, or lack thereof, of R&S together?

Is there a situation where all the different view points of R&S could put aside their differences and unite for a common purpose? What do you think it would take?

I've seen it put aside when our beloved Debra was sick. Could it happen if, say, a member's 10 year old son has been diagnosed with a potentially intrusive skin cancer? Would you pray for him if you were a praying person? Would you keep him in your thoughts if you're not?

What do you think? And could you include your faith or lack thereof?

  • R&S poll...how many of you...?

got a violation notice on this question?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnoQ9...

I'll probably get a violation for this one, too, but I need to know who to block, and if you got violated *snicker* you probably weren't the one doing the reporting.

My answer was, "*snort* I'm almost....ALMOST....ready to ask one of you guys for a drink."

Yes, I know. Not a question or answer....*sigh*
