I'm a video production student, a believer in libertarian socialism, atheism, and celibacy. Go figure

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II or Panasonic HMC-150?

I'm a junior video production student trying to figure out witch camera could be better to invest in for when I need to shoot portfolio material for graduation.

Currently these two cameras (Canon Mark II and Panasonic HMC-150) are really shaking things up in the video world and seem to fit in with my budget (below 6k, something reasonable) My experience has been with using Panasonic DVX/HVX and a consumer Canon power-shot and a Canon camcorder. I'm familiar with aperture, shutter, exposure, ISOs and fps. And I do some photography as an hobby and will be willing to learn more advanced skills.

They both shoot 1080p with H.264 on memory cards, both also have low light sensitivity, however the Panasonic has vectorscopes, 3CCDs and can shoot multiple speeds, but the Canon has interchangeable lenses and is the best DSLR right now.I know for the Mark II the sound is poor, so I'm also thinking of using a field recorder for external capture.

    The main questions are:

    1. Which do you see as a more realistic investment?

    2. Which do you see would be better for commercial work?

  • How is my After Effects animation?

This was my final for my motion graphics class. I t was my first real attempt at animation, and mixing both real life and greenscreen. I also went and illustrated most of the backgrounds and props.

The goal is to recreate (or make up) a fake title sequence for a film, I did mine on Spy vs Spy (the MAD comic)

The animation is simplistic and a bit glitchy, but this again was my first real stake at After Effects. So any opinions (both with the video, AE, or animation) would be fine.

  • This forum is the center of human failure. Are you lying to yourselves?

This fourm is full of sad young people desperally trying to optain human effection. And I have said this once, and I will say it again!

Why must people here have to be strung up on trying to find a mate, or try to emotionally/sexually please them, is this what they thought when they were only a child?

I thought humans are better then this, I thought we were more enlightened with our science and philosophy then to fall into the perils of having to have a relationship.

We can have reproduction of the human race through a lab if we trully cared about the survival of the species. Why do women even need men if in the future society is completely automated and the population is in full regulated control.

Sex it is (in my view) only used as a social construct. A expectation we as society are geared towards in order to try and gain acceptance, materialism, depression, and a sense of worthlessness are not uncommon.

I feel we in western society should rise above this if we really do care about the emotions of humans.

  • Why are we held up to the social expectations of sex and relationships?

I have been asking this a couple of times to get some different opinions.

  • If I have a un-mailed Absentee Ballot, but I am still able to make it to my local polling station...... ?

If I have a unmailed Absentee Ballot, but I am still able to make it to my local polling station on Tue could I still vote in the poll as long as the absentee ballot is not mailed?

    Long story:

The story is that my polling place is in Nj, and I live in Philadelphia. I relie on rides from my parents back and forth. They recently were going out of state leaving me without an option to go to the polls on Tue. We finally got my ballot in the mail today, but now they found out they are not leaving the state, and thus I will now have a ride back to town for voting.

If I mail out the ballot on Friday it may not make it by the time the polls close, so should I still attempt to fill it and mail it, or should I goto the booth and tear the ballot in front of an official to try and vote on Tue?

  • iTunes or AmazonMp3, which music service do you perfer?

The rivalry between iTunes and AmazonMp3 is beginning to turn into the music version of Pepsi vs Coke,

What music service do you prefer (or if you prefer another service like E-music, HDtracks, or Zune Marketplace)

Personally I use both, I like the quality of iTunes plus and the digital booklets, but Amazon Mp3 has the best quality Mp3's and for dirt cheap (and tax free) prices.

  • Convince a indie/punk fan why I should listen to Emo,Screemo, and Hardcore?

I'm a big fan of early punk and post-punk bands, when I hear the word "hardcore" I like to think of the Circle Jerks, when I think about "Emo" I think of At The Drive in.

But I for the life of me can never get into modern punk, for kids in my generation Emo, Screemo, and Hardcore has become the true underground scene (unlike "indie" that is routinely covered in Spin, Pitchfork and has large concert venues)

But the music always turned me off, the lyrics seemed to never jive with me (the stereotype songs about cheating girlfriends come to mind) and I never understood why the singers have that adolescent whinny singing, then suddenly switch to using the death growl.

So tell me, Am I missing out on something, are their any influential albums that can change my mind. Why should I pay attention to this music?

  • Are you more of a music Single fan, or an Album fan?

I figure most music fans are both fans of singles (radio hits or popular songs) and albums. But witch do you really prefer? The song or the album as a whole?

(and no, greatest hits albums do not count as albums)

  • Latin, Afro-Cuban, or Jazz Fusion Recommendations?

I'm very unfamiliar with Jazz outside some experimental fusion by Frank Zappa, Buena Vista Social Club, and some stuff from Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

But recently I stumbled on a soundtrack from GTA Vice City (Esperanto) and I really dig the mix of 70's and 50's latin jazz. and I really want to get into it some more. What are some other recommendations in this genre?

  • Suggestions for a Mix Cd for a Birthday Party?

Yea, this seems like a question a twelve year old would ask, but anyway.

I'm making a mix tape/CD/playlist for a 19 year old girl's birthday party, And so far the theme I've had in mind is just danceable songs from 2007/2008, simple yes? I also added some "filler songs" from the 80's for cool down.

Here is the list so far

    Electric Feel - MGMT

    Kim & Jessie - M83

    D.A.N.C.E. - Justice

Dead Man's Party - Oingo Boingo (Filler)

Ready For The Floor - Hot Chip

Strange Overtones - David Byrne and Brian Eno

    Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups

Swingin' Party - The Replacements (Filler)

    Jimmy - M.I.A

Lights & Music - Cut Copy

All My Friends - LCD Soundsystem

The party guests are going to be 19-20 year olds from a rural country setting, I hope I don't freak them out with my urban "hipster" music.

What are some suggestions I could add to the list

  • Clothing suggestions for a thin and fashionaly picky art student?

I asked this question a couple months earlier, but I wanted to ask again for different results.

I've always had a bit of trouble finding clothing that actually complements me. part of this is my self esteem, but the other problem is my weird size

My body type is very thin, height 5,7, weight 110, my chest area seems to be around a small or extra small (32-29), my waist is a 29, but I also have large calf muscles. My skin is white, with a slight tan.

My style leans away from the "preppy" style, and more to a classy style, I also like to wear kitsch clothing like Cosmo Kramer (of Seinfield)

I tired looking at AA, H&M, and Express, but I find that I dislike most of Express's designs, and I guess I feel almost like a sellout going to AA and H&M. Don't even get me started on Hot Topic.

I'm just tired of wearing my ill-fitting clothing along with my Hawaiian shirts, I want to try something different, any suggestions?

  • iPod Nano or an iPod Touch?

I know this is a old question, but I might as well ask it. My iPod 5gen finally died, and I want to replace it, with ether an iPod Nano or a Touch.

So far I'm leaning to the iPod Nano, for these reasons..

    1. Size does not matter. I use iTunes's Smart Playlists to sync my music, this system reduces my collection of 24Gb's down to 4Gb's, leaving me plenty of room for music and video.

    2. The Touch is too flashy for me. I feel that the Touch is too "yuppieish" for my taste, plus I live in a urban setting. And while the risk of theft is low (population wise), I feel the risk is a bit higher with a expensive Touch.

    3. I really do not care about jailbreaking my Touch, or playing DOOM on it. Also while my city does have Wifi, it's very slow and closed. And then I'm at my parents home, I would be on my computer when using there Wifi

Even with these doubts, should I still consider the iPod Touch?

  • Any modern punk recommendations?

I'm a huge fan of punk music (Post-Punk, and 80's Hardcore especially)

But I'm finding it hard to find any modern punk outside of Pop-Punk, screamo, and HARDCORE. I want to see what is good in the "scene" without being annoyed.

I already know of great bands like At The Drive In, Death From Above 1979, Gogol Bordello, and Modern Life is War. But is there anything else from this generation I should listen to?
