  • Alarm goes off?

Why do we say an alarm "goes off" when it actually goes "on".

What do we say when it's finished? If an alarm has been sounding for an hour and it stops do we say "Thank goodness that's gone on" or "Thank goodness that's gone off"? (OK we probably say something much shorter and ruder but you get the picture)

    Any ideas?

  • Why left handed guitars but not other instruments?

Why do we have left handed guitars. I've never seen a left handed piano, or woodwind, or brass instrument. No left handed violins, no left handed harps. There must be left handed musicians playing all those "right handed" instruments, so why are guitars any different. Most musicians are fairly dextrous anyway. Any comments?

  • Excel file opens in two copies :1 and :2?

I have a .XLS file, running in Excel 97 (yes its old but it still works fine!) Every time I open it, I get two copies :1 and :2. I can work in either, and closing either closes both. Its not causing a problem, just bugs me a little. Any ideas?
