After running electrophoresis on 1% agarose gels in my lab, bubbles appear within the gel. The gels appear perfectly fine during and after pouring, and even after adding the samples. It's only after they've been run under the electrical current that the bubbles appear inside. Why might this be happening, and how might we avoid this?

I need to make 5 mL of a 0.015% (w/v) solution of resazurin. How many milligrams of resazurin do I need?

So I just recently turned 21, and I was all excited to get a new over-21 license, because I don't like my under-21 style license (the orientation is different for over 21 and under 21, and I hate my picture from when I was 16). I thought my license expired on my 21st birthday, too. But I checked, and the expiration date says it doesn't expire for 2 more years. Can I still get a new one?

Does anyone know if it's possible to find the focal length of a diverging lens experimentally (by combining with a converging lens and measuring the distances of the image vs the object) if the focal length of the converging lens is greater than the absolute value of the diverging focal length???

Exact procedure from manual on experimentally finding the value of a diverging lens:

"Place the converging and diverging lenses together as close as possible. Find the focal length f(combined) of the combination using a distant object and a screen. Let f(c) and f(d) be the focal lengths of the converging and diverging lenses respectively. Then use 1/f(combined) = 1/f(c) + 1/f(d) and the previously measured, averaged value of fc to find the focal length of the diverging lens f(d)."

***Question: Would this experiment be possible if f(c) > |f(d)|?***

Extra: In the lab, f(c) was 10cm and f(d) was -15cm.

A few weeks ago I noticed this odd little bruise about halfway along my left upper inner thigh. I didn't remember getting injured, but I have a tendency to get hurt without noticing, so I didn't think much of it besides keeping an eye on it. It's still there, and I notice that the discoloration seems to be on top of a hard lump under the skin. The discoloration is slightly oval, approximately 1 cm lengthwise, and a very light bruise color. It does not hurt, even when I press on it, and is otherwise unnoticeable. I'm a little worried, and possibly plan to see a doctor about it. However, I would like a few opinions on what it might be.

Other health information: I'm female, 21 years old, 5'5" and approximately 135 pounds. I'm otherwise fairly healthy.

I bought fresh eggs yesterday, expiration date in December, and later that night the power went out for about 9 hours. The fridge was not opened at all during that period. Are my eggs still edible?

I went to a Burton's Grill with my family for dinner. We all ordered steak, and we were eating when my dad noticed something under my mom's steak. I pulled it out, and it was a plastic cup lid, like they have at fast-food places. I got really, really grossed out and almost puked, which resulted in me having a panic attack (I'm anxiety-prone), and had to go to the bathroom to calm down. After that I refused to eat any more, even though my parents kept eating. Even my mom! But they think I over reacted, because it wasn't even my steak, and it "wasn't the worst thing they've had happen." What do you think?

In my microbiology lab, we cultivated plates of CDC blood agar with soil inoculate and incubated them anaerobically. When we observed them later, they stank really, really badly. Why did the anaerobic soil bacteria stink?

My period seems to be rather late. I was expecting it around January 18, and I still haven't gotten it. I'm not even experiencing the normal symptoms I get right before a period, i.e. cramps, back pain, and sore breasts. I don't keep written track of my period start and end, and sometimes it's a little irregular, but I've never been so off in my estimate before. All I can remember for sure is that my last period was some time before winter break ended and I went back to school on Jan 12. I am a virgin, and I have never even been near a naked penis or its secretions, much less within the time since my last period. I'm slightly anemic, but that's never really been a problem before. Could there be something wrong with my body, and I should see a doctor soon? Or am I just overreacting, and should give it another week or so before taking more advanced measures?
