Orion is a healthy 8-year-old male black cat who just went to the vet for a check-up last month, and everything was fine. Yesterday I noticed him itching the bottom of his face a little. This morning I found a lump on the bottom of his jaw; I felt it thoroughly. In proportion, it would be the size of a human goiter (it swelled up the bottom of his jaw and chin). I am taking him to the vet 1st thing tomorrow morning. Would an abscessed tooth cause this? He is behaving the same, purring and hanging out with me etc., but I noticed he scratched the outside open from itching upon inspection. Perhaps he is chewing less hard food lately, but the growth is very new and might have fluid inside. Any thoughts on what else it could be and if he will require surgery? I was getting the new dog spayed this Tuesday, but if he needs surgery then he will get the dog's spot on Tuesday, and the spaying can be postponed for a month.
