I am a 16 year old who has a slight obession with animals. Small pets especially! I have/had: 2 rats 4 hamsters 6 guinea pigs 5 rabbits I horseride every weekend and I love it. Have been doing it since I was 2. If anyone has any questions about small pets (specially the ones listed above) or horses, feel free to email me!
Are we not allowed to post photos of ourselves wearing shorts?
I ask because I just asked a question titled: Do my legs look too fat in these high waisted shorts?
I attached two photos and asked for honesty as I am really self concious, but no mean comments.
Then I get a message through saying someone reported it...
Is that not allowed on this site or something? If it wasn't I never knew that...
2 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style7 years agoHow long do you wait until you sleep at your boyfriends house?
I have been going out with this guy for over 2 weeks now and he wants me to spend the night at his house.
I have said that I think its too soon for me to stay around his, but he seems to think that (and I quote!) that 'most couples stay over within the first week' like seriously?! What is wrong with people? Do they really?!
I am 16, he is 17. This is my first relationship and his second.
I know that he gets annoyed at me when I say 'my dad wont let me' but its not my fault. He lives over an hour away so I only get to see him at college. I don't know what else to do/say to him!
2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoNew relationship... Already have problems?!?
So I have been going out with this guy for 12 days now. I'm 16 and he is 17. This is my first relationship and already I know its going downhill...
He lives an hour away from me and we only see eachother at college. He wants to meet me outside of college, but because of the distance, its really hard for me. He said to save travelling so much, I could stay over at his for a weekend (so get the bus back to his on Friday, go home on the Monday on my normal bus) and to me, this seems all wayyy to soon. I'm not saying we would have sex (because I wouldnt!) but I think to stay over its too soon.
My dad said to me when I first told him I had a boyfriend that he will not be a taxi-service and he will not be driving me to and from my house to his. He won't let me stay overnight either (which is fine because I don't want to anyway).
Now my boyfriend is being really off with me. I know he's annoyed at me, but at the same time, he needs to respect the fact that I am not allowed! Right?
We could meet up at college on Wednesdays (I don't have to go in then and neither does he) so we could go into town together and it just be me and him, but I don't think he wants to. He said to me today 'I don't want a relationship that will just be at college'.
Its not my fault that I can't see him outside of college! He says he loves me, but these past 2 days there have been virtually no kisses when he texts me, no saying 'I love you' like he normally does.
Today I saw him at lunch and instead of coming over to me like normal, he stayed with his friends and then after about 20 minutes, he came over to me, but didn't make much conversation. He didn't hug me or kiss me like he would do normally either.
I met up with him before getting my bus and he seemed reluctant to hug me. It wasn't a tight hug that meant something like he would do normally. The kiss was quick and he just walked off without saying anything...
I feel as if its my fault and feel awful, but I can't help it! I can't drive and I have no other way of meeting up with him.
I have told him I don't want to stay overnight as I feel as if its too soon, but I can tell he is pee'd off and annoyed at me. I don't know what else to do!
Help??

5 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoURGENT My 2 and a half year old guinea pig is 'hooting!?'?
I have done some research and have found out it could be a heart problem or a URI. Her breathing was clear until 3 days ago.
Now she is making a really weird hooting sound.
I will not be able to take her to the vets until Wednesday and I feel so bad. Is there anything I can do from home to help? Will she be okay until then?
She is housed with 2 baby guinea pigs (10 weeks old). Should I seperate her?
3 AnswersRodents8 years agoGuinea Pig-Possible Ear Problem?
I have noticed that one of my guinea pigs has been head shaking/twitching today. I got her and her sister on Saturday and just today I have noticed head twitching. Like something is irritating her.
I checked her ears and I can see some wax build up.
I compared it to her sisters and I can see wax in her sisters, but not as much. Her sister is not twitching.
They are only 8 weeks old and have quite long coats. I think they are sheltie crosses (one has longer hair than the other)
Should I clean her ears and see how it goes?
Or should I just take them to the vets to get checked over?
1 AnswerRodents8 years agoNew Baby Guinea Pigs Sneezing?
Some of you may already know, that I have two new guinea pigs and I have found them to be sneezing.
The smallest one (Lilly) sneezed 3 times in a row today, but it was when she was eating her food. At the time, the food bowl needed topping up so it was basically the crumbs and tiny bits left of the food. Could the dust have caused her to sneeze?
Also, I have just found out that the hay I have been using, is brand new (dad buys bales and bags it up) so its still quite green-ish and smells really strong. Could that possibly have caused the sneezing too?
Cinnamon, the larger baby, only sneezed once that I know of (from 6pm to present time (11pm)) and at the time, she was nosing around in the hay pile thats in their cage. Again, could that be a reason why she sneezed?
Patch has been moved outside while I wait for a replacement cage (getting it tomorrow) and I have noticed no sneezing from her-at all. I had her out for 2 hours today and there was nothing.
While doing the introductions, they were all popcorning and being very active.
I checked their breathing and its clear.
I have checked their eyes, nose, coat, food and water intake and its all normal.
None are sitting hunched in a corner or anything, they are all vocal, its just the sneezing that worries me.
The reason why I have asked another question on the same subject is because its only today when I found out about the hay.
Also, the babies (like Patch) are housed on pine woodshavings (I think its pine...). I know this can be bad for them, but as I said in my last question, in the past Patch has had no problems with it.
Could I use the rats substrate for my piggies? For them, I use chopped cardboad (corragated) and recycled paper pellets. They are not dusty, I was just wondering if it would be okay to use?
Oh, one other thing, off topic a bit...
Is there any way to prevent a baby guinea pig from biting the water bottle? It gets really annoying at night and I'm scared she's going to hurt her mouth/teeth. Also, by biting the bottle (the sippy bit) the water comes out. In 1 day, the whole water bottle is near enough empty. Any ideas?
2 AnswersRodents8 years agoGuinea pigs sneezing, but only sometimes?
I have 1 guinea pig who is 3 years old. I have just recently moved her into my room because of the loss of her cagemate. (This has been since the 20th), Ever since then, I have noticed the occasional sneeze from her. She lived with a rabbit (who didn't sneeze) and now all of a sudden she is sneezing? I haven't changed what I use to clean her out with, she has woodshavings and hay as normal. Why is she sneezing now?
Along with that, I have 2 new baby guinea pigs in my room (since yesterday (the 28th)) and I have noticed the occasional sneeze from them too. Like my older guinea pig, its only once or twice a day, but I am concerned for them all.
I do have a pair of rats in my room, but because of them, nothing gets sprayed in there. I don't know what could cause them to sneeze?
They are all acting healthy, have clear breathing and everything. Very active, eating and drinking, nice coats, bright eyes, vocal, clear noses etc. They all look 100% healthy!
Any ideas? (The babies are 8 weeks old by the way)
3 AnswersRodents8 years agoIntroducing Guinea Pigs-Behaviour Questions?
I have been introducing 2 baby female guinea pigs, to my 3 year old female guinea pig.
All seems to be going really well. No teeth chattering or fur standing up on end.
I am just curious to know these two things:
1)
Why are my baby guinea pigs, following the adult around everywhere? They all walk in a line following Patch (the adult). Its pretty cute, but I just want to know why.
2)
My second question is why do they leap around and have a tiny 'fit' in the air? It reminds me of binkying in rabbits. What does this mean for guinea pigs?
1 AnswerRodents8 years agoKeeping a lone guinea pig happy and not depressed?
Basically, if you don't know, my guinea pig's cage mate (a rabbit) got put to sleep yesterday and now my guinea pig, Patch, is all alone.
No hate about this okay?! They were best friends and got along incredibly well together.
Now, Patch is lonely. I bought her inside (they are outdoors) and she is now in my room. I am holding her now and have been for about 2 hours, feeding her vegetables and trying my best to keep her happy.
We are getting her 2 female guinea pigs so she can have some friends, but that will be on wednesday. I have college on Monday and Tuesday so she will be alone for most of the day (from 7am to 6.30pm).
I know that lone guinea pigs (like rats) can get depressed easily and refuse to eat. I have got something to feed her if she stops eating and if she does, hopefully she will eat when she has some buddies. I have this thing called 'Recovery' and its basically something you mix with water to create a paste. Its leftover from what my vet gave my old guinea pig when he couldn't eat anything (he was old) and its still in date and we have seringes in the box.
I am just worried that she will get upset when i'm not there. I am very close to Patch and whenever I am walking towards her cage, she will call to me. In the run, she will run over to me and get attention.
Now, she's not doing that. She called to me once and that was yesterday, when Blueberry was still with us :(
She is eating, I have seen her eat today and she is drinking. Still eating hay and veggies, not so much her actual food, but some has been eaten.
I just don't want her to get depressed and stop eating all together! :(
Like I said, we are getting her friends, but on Wednesday.
4 AnswersRodents8 years ago(URGENT) What has happened to my rabbits paw??!?
When I fed all my animals this morning, they were all fine (7am), then when I came back from college to feed them all (6.40pm) I noticed that one of my older rabbits was limping and moving around weirdly. I knelt down and saw that she was walking on the side of her back right foot, so I picked her up and noticed that the foot was really floppy-this has never happened before. Could she have dislocated it somehow? Is that possible for her to do that? The foot is really floppy, almost as if its not connected to the leg.
She is an older rabbit, as I have said before, she is nearly 7 years old and means the world to me. I have a horrible feeling its going to be a one way trip to the vets tomorrow and it will be without me because I am at college. My dad is taking her to the vets tomorrow and I am geussing I will never see her again (now i'm crying). I have had her since I was 10, when she was a little baby and I love her so much.
But what do you think happened? There is no blood or anything in the cage, she is kept with a guinea pig (No hate. They are best friends) and they get on well. There is nothing she could have caught it on, so I have no idea what could have happened in that space of time.
She is walking on the side of that foot and its destressing me! :(
Like I said, she is going to the vets tomorrow, but I just want to know what could have happened to her. :(
3 AnswersOther - Pets8 years agoDo ferrets make good pets? I have some questions?
I have 3 rabbits a guinea pig and two rats at the moment and I am considering getting either another hamster (I have owned 4 in the past) or a pair of ferrets.
I am 16 years old and am experienced with all my pets I have now. I am the only one who looks after them, they are my pets. I pay for most of the things needed apart from vet bills-but dad just says to me, no money for __ weeks until its all paid back.
They have ferrets at the college that I have just started and I really like them. I know that they can nip-hard! And also that they have a very strong smell to them.
I believe you can keep them outside, right? I live in the UK.
I regularly browse sites like pets4homes and gumtree and there always seems to be ferrets on there (close to where I live) so if I was to choose to get some, they shouldn't be hard to find.
My questions:
How long do they live?
What sort of cage do they need? (My friend knows someone who keeps 3 in a double rabbit hutch. Would that be possible?)
Excersise needs. How often do they need to be let out to run about? Obviously I would not want to contain them to a cage their whole lives.
What would you feed them? I know that they are carnivores. Would you feed them cat food or something? Or is there some sort of food mix you can buy for them?
Sleeping patterns. Are they awake at night, like hamsters, or are they awake in the day more?
Difference between males and females?
Do they make good pets?
Are they easy to handle? (2 at the college are, but I was wondering if thats because they get handled by multiple people everyday. There are 6 others who are not so handleable.)
Are they trainable (litter training or tricks?)
Anything else worth me knowing?
Please keep in mind that I am only considering them! If I do end up wanting them, I would wait until my rabbits have passed (2 are 7 this year) and that I have the time for them.
3 AnswersOther - Pets8 years agoI'm worried about my friend...?
Me and my friend used to be really close about 2/3 years ago. We gradually drifted apart but we still talk regularly and stuff.
Recently, I have found out that she has been sleeping with a 27 year old. She's 16 and that her first time was in a bush in the forest near to where she lives. I am worried about her because this guy doesn't seem like a very nice person and he smokes weed, drinks and all sorts. One of my other friends (who I am very close to) said that she told her that she was pregnant, but was going to abort the baby. However, it might be too late (she was taking some pills) so I am so worried about her!
I can't talk to her because we are not that close and she hasn't actually told me any of this. I know that she was meeting up with this guy, but not in that way! I accidently found it out because my other friends thought I knew about it.
Sorry if this is all confusing, I just don't know what to do! I understand that its her choice and all that, but she is very sensitive and one of her ex-boyfriend's thinks that he is using her for sex.
We are all 15-16 years old and this guy is 27. I have seen photos of him and he looks dodgy... (I know thats not the best thing to say, but he does look quite scary!) One of my other friends has met him before and she's scared of him.
2 AnswersFriends8 years agoWhich rat cage should I buy?
I am saving up for a new rat cage for my 2 girls.
I have two in mind:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0073%E2%80%A6
This one is £99 and looks good, but according to the reveiws, the ledges and ramps are poor quality.
It can fit a max of 10 rats in (I would only keep a max of 6-8 in it though).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003L%E2%80%A6
This one is £269 and can house a max of 16 rats (I would keep 12-14 max though). People say its very big and spacious, but its hard to fit together.
The reason I am saving for a larger cage, is because I do plan on having several more rats in the future (next year hopefully). I know that the prices are very different, I was just wondering which one you would pick and why.
The second cage is basically the UK version of a critter nation cage, so I know its very high quality and is built to last.
Space is not an issue and neither is cost really. I am dedicated to saving up for a new cage for my rats and eventually, it will happen xD
I plan to get between 3-4 more rats in the next year and then I would introduce them slowly (I know how). I just want a cage that my rats would all be happy in and if needed, one that can be seperated into 2 sections in-case of fighting or similar.
Obviously I would have the cage I have now, which houses 4 rats, but is good for 3 rats really. I would keep the new rats in their for the introduction period.
If you have any cages in the UK that you could recommend, I will appreciate it!
4 AnswersRodents8 years agoNo period since this time last year?
Why is this?
Today I had some off coloured discharge. It was a light brown/red colour. Is my period going to come at last? Its come yearly for the last 2 years now and its worrying me... I have been to the doctors and he gave me a pregnancy test. I am a virgin so I have never had sex before so that wouldn't be possible. Am I getting my period soon?
I'm 16 by the way. My period never used to be like this when I was 12 and 13...
2 AnswersWomen's Health8 years agoCompanion Care Vets-Rats?
How are the PetsAtHome vets, Companion Care, with treating URIs or similar, with rats? My current vet is awful and I am strongly considering changing vets.
1 AnswerRodents8 years agoOn of my rats is now wheezing?
They are being treated for a URI and before they were just sneezing and, snuffling (slightly). Now one of them is wheezing sometimes. I am worried because my current vet is REFUSING to put them on Baytril and at the moment they are on Terramycin. They are on it until the 25th of July-not long left, but I got it on the 25th June, so they have been on it a while.
It seems as if this URI is getting worse. I am trying to get my dad to take them both to another vets. This one is awful.
He said that some rats can just sneeze and have nothing wrong with them and that it cannot be treated. Is this true? The sneezes are wet sneezes, they have had porphrin on their noses (The wheezing one had it today) and they are snuffling and now wheezing.
Please help!
They have been to this same vet 3 times since February (when I got them) and this is what I was prescribed:
0.2ml Baytril to 100ml water-3 weeks
0.3ml Baytril to 50ml water-3 weeks
0.4ml Terramycin orally-4 weeks
None have worked and I know he prescribed the Baytril wrong and I have ASKED him to give it them again, but he said no because they will put up a 'defence system' because they are used to it.
These rats have cost me and my dad a lot of money in vets bills and I am fed up with it.
I need help.
1 AnswerRodents8 years agoHomemade rat food questions.?
I have had my two rats, Roxi and Rosie, since February and they have been fed basic rat pellets from pets at home. I have been looking online for homemade rat food recipes and have found this one:
Plain oats, dry pasta, puffed wheat, rice crispies, pumpkin seeds, unsalted sunflower seeds, dry cranberries and bananas, total cereal, cheerio's and unsalted roasted soy nuts.
Total Cereal is only available in the US and I am living the the UK. I googled a replacement and it said Branflakes. Are they okay, would you say?
I bought some anyway, because they were cheap (morrisons savers XD). I haven't opened them though. Would they be okay? I know that Branflakes are difinitely healthy.
Also, with the cheerio's, is it okay if I use the cereal ones? They are whole grain, but they taste quite sweet. I think they have some sort of sugar/sweetener on them. I cannot find any without sweetener though...
With the puffed wheat, what is a good replacement. The only 'puffed' wheat cereal I can find is coated with sugar so I am not using that. Would wheat'a'bix be okay do you think? It just came to mind. Its got wheat in it! I was thinking I could break it up into little peices or something.
3 AnswersRodents8 years agoTo run a rat rescue/rattery in the UK, do you need a licence?
I am wanting to start my own up in the future (long time from now) and was just wondering if you needed a licence.
I will probably do this about 15+ years from now. I have been researching about starting one up and have found that it costs a lot to do and run. This is why it will take me ages before I set it up. I need a stable job, income and house first.
So, will I need a licence? If so, where would I go to get one?
