  • How to determine potential renter is scamming me?

I own a house in a small town that I rent out. Unfortunately, it is about 5 hours away so I can't keep an eye on it. Recently my renters moved out so I cleaned it up and left a sign in the front yard "For Rent". In the last 5 hours I have gotten 5 calls from a couple claiming to be ministers for local Micronesians. I can't find the persons name on the churches website. I can't find anything about a local outreach for Micronesians in the town and the realtor didn't know there were very many in this town. They seem ready to fill out an application and rent it without even seeing the inside. I have a very, very bad feeling about this.

How do I get out of this, they now have my cell phone # and email address. I am getting texts and emails about 1 an hour. Even though at first they had no ability to send emails.

What would you say to them?

  • Have airline ticket, can't fly, medical emergency, what do I do?

We flew to my Mom's house on Friday. My 9 yr old daughter complained about the pain in her ears during descent, but I played it off thinking it was normal pressure. By noon on Saturday she is in extreme pain and her fever begins to soar. I think it is the flu, but as she got worse, I decided to take her to Urgent Care. Full blown ear infection in both ears, and possibly in the surrounding bones. She gets a shot and a Dr directive NOT to fly back home. Now what? Will the airline refund or help? Anything special I should ask? What about car rental company, any that will help out a stranded traveler?

  • What action can you take against a Dr or hospital that refuses to assist with a billing?

I recently underwent surgery at an "Out of Network provider" because he was the only one who performed the surgery I needed. I talked to the insurance company and the hospital prior to the procedure and was told I would only be responsible for $1,500 out of pocket. Unfortunately, they didn't mention that if they charged more than the Maximum allowable charge, that it didn't count. So I have a bill in excess of $20,000. I asked this question sometime ago and was told to fight it. So I got the CPT codes for medicare and found out that cost. The first place I called said, Sure, no problem, reduced and I paid it off. Done! The next place we do not EVER, EVER, EVER reduce a bill for a non participating provider, period. Would legal action be of any assistance? What about a medical mediator?

  • I have received an excessive bill from an out of network hospital, they are overbilling. How do I fight this?

I wasn't able to find a Dr who specialized in a specific surgery I needed, so I went out of network. Before I went, the hospital and I checked with the insurance company and I was informed my max out of pocket would be $1,200. I just received a bill for $20,000. The insurance will only pay the "going rate" for the surgery and says the hospital is over-inflating the cost of the surgery by $18,800. What do I do? Can they be convinced to use insurance rates for the surgery? I will never, ever be able to pay this bill, nor would I had had the surgery if I had known.

  • Received an Agreement to Vacate from a realtor, but the owner says he still owns it & we pay rent to him.?

The house we have been renting is in foreclosure. Our landlord has assured us he still owns it, and we sent him rent money. Today we received an "Agreement to Vacate" from a realtor, this claims that Wash Mutual actually owns the property and we have to move out. So who owns it? And did the landlord have the authority to collect rent?

  • Lost job, need new place to live, now what?

What would you do? I lost my job on Monday, the house we are renting is now way too expensive for us to rent. My husband is working part time and will hopefully go full time soon, but for a lot less than I was making. So what now? Are there landlords that will take a chance? How do you find them? Just not sure what to do know with our family of 4.

  • What does "LOU" mean when a title search has an issue?

We are buying a foreclosed property and were supposed to close today. We just found out there is an issue with the title search and the only information we have received is that it is a legal issue and is considered a "L O U" . Does anyone know what this means?

  • My 9 year old Australian Shepherd has started coughing in the evenings. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

His cough is harsh but not wet sounding with a high pitch ending. He will end it with lots of swallowing and licking, seems he is going to fill up his stomach with all the air he swallows. He eventually stops and is able to sleep, but not before he pants for awhile. He has had a course of antibiotics, but it didn't help. Last heartworm preventative was in September.

  • Why would insurance in one part of the country pay for compound pharmaceticals and not in another?

We just moved to MN from Iowa. I never had any trouble obtaining coverage for both my Dr and pharmacy items from my insurance in Iowa. Now they refuse to pay it, even refuse to include it as an item towards my deductible. Why? Is there any way to appeal this successfully?

  • My 8 yr old daughter doesn't want to eat meat. How do I insure she is getting what she needs to grow?

My daughter doesn't like meat at all. She likes vegetables. How do I help her become a vegetarian without depleting her of the nutrition she needs to grow up strong?

Should I start her on a vitamin?

I don't like the chemical varieties.

  • Cool travel spots in Iowa, Southern MN, Western ILL, Eastern NE or Northern MO??

Due to the current gas situation our family vacation all the way to CO from Iowa has been cancelled. WE are trying to figure out something fun to do, much closer to home. We live in SW Iowa and can't afford to drive too far. We are planning on camping, so that will help the cost and bringing our own food. Any thoughts as to some fun places to visit in Iowa, Southern MN, Eastern NE or Northern MO? Anyone have some great stories from vacations in these areas? Something relevent to a family with an 8 yr old girl and a 4 yr old boy.

  • Some ideas for a "fun" supper with the kids?

I work way too much, and I have a the rare opportunity to spend the weekend playing with them. I want to create a "fun supper" for them, you know, new stuff, or finger foods, or fun ideas for presentation. Maybe even bake a cake to celebrate school being out together. The biggest part of all of this, is easy stuff they can do with me in the kitchen to enjoy each others company.
