  • How do I fix my videotape?

I need to know how to fix a videotape that I have. All of the film is on the left side and when I push play, the VCR just ejects it. I finally looked more closely and there isn't any of the film on the right side at all. How do I get the end of the film back and how do I wrap it back around the spool?

  • Should I meet my 1yo estranged step-nephew?

I have a step-brother who is my age (22). Our parents have been together since 1999, so we have a good relationship. While I love him to death, I will be one of the first to admit he's not always been the best at being responsible.

    Background:

He has a 3 year old son who calls me "Aunt ______" and who I have known to be my nephew since before he was born (we'll call him Luke). When my step-bro (we'll call him Nate) graduated from h.s., he proposed to his gf of 6 yrs. Shortly after, they found out they were pregnant & he changed his carefree ways and was ready to settle down & step up. When Luke was about a year old, his mother decided she wanted no part in being a mother or wife and left to pursue a life of drugs. Nate was so in love and so naturally, he was heartbroken. He really stepped up and he is a wonderful father to Luke. That part he has done right.

However, he jumped into a rocky rebound relationship after his longtime love left. This relationship only lasted about 2 months. A few months later though, he got a call saying her baby was his. He was skeptical since they hadn't been together long, but after its birth and a paternity test, it was found that the boy was his. This boy ("Branden") is now a year old.

Nate pays child support for Branden, but they don't have a relationship. He has seen his son on several occasions, but the mother ("Sammie") won't have any visitations without her there--which is understandable, but she causes drama the entire time of the visit with Nate's new fiancee, and Sammie always leaves angry, saying that Nate will not see Branden anymore.

Luke does know Branden is his brother, but they only interact at cousins' houses in instances where they are both invited to a party or something like that. My step-sister (Nate's sis) has babysat Branden at Sammie's house, but that's about the extent of their relationship.

    What's going on now:

Sammie reached out to me on facebook a couple of months ago, and, not wanting to be rude, I accepted her friend request. Yesterday she saw my status about our brief trip to their state to visit (6 hrs away). She asked if I wanted to meet Branden.

I don't know what to answer. This is a really awkward situation. Nobody ever talks about Branden. He's not my "real" nephew so I feel like I don't "owe" him anything--but then again, neither is Luke, and nothing stopped me from having a great relationship with him. I feel like I shouldn't go behind Nate's back to meet Branden and I don't want to betray my relationship with his new fiancee.

I would not be going to Sammie's house to meet Branden. She would bring him to my dad's. They really don't have much to do with him, so it's very weird. I do not want awkwardness between me and my family over this. I just feel like this is a really awkward situation to put myself into. The child is 1, so it's not like HE WANTS to meet me. And to be perfectly honest, I do not feel a void if I don't meet him. I know that sounds really bad, but it's true. I have Luke and two actual nephews and an actual niece. I've been doing fine without him. What would be the benefit? I live 6 hrs away and don't get to visit often. What kind of a relationship can I really have with Branden if I live 6 hrs away and no one else in the family interacts with him?

Don't give me the "RIGHT" answer; I know what that is: meet the child and make a relationship with him. Tell me what YOU HONESTLY THINK YOU WOULD DO if you were in this situation.

Then, if you said for me to meet him, do you think I should bring him a Christmas gift? If I meet Branden, I would feel weird bringing Luke one and not Branden. But again, I feel awkward and I don't know the kid. And how weird would that be if I did bring a gift, didn't meet him, and my dad/stepmom never saw the kid either?

  • Schultzes or Schultzs?

I am a newlywed and haven't figured out which is the correct plural version of my last name. The last name is 'Schultz.' What would be correct for saying, "The Schultzes/Schultzs wish you a Merry Christmas!"

    Thanks!

  • How do I mount a paper folding fan on the wall?

I found two oriental paper folding fans that were my husband's grandmother's. I would like to display them on the wall in a bedroom, but am unsure how to mount them.

I do not want to damage the wall, as we are renting this home. More importantly, I do not want to damage the fans. They are in beautiful condition and both are obviously old.

I read somewhere that I could attach them to the wall with double-sided tape, but I wouldn't want to tear the fans or remove paint when I remove them from the wall later. I also read that you could use clear push pins to push them into the wall, which is fine for the wall, but then I will forever have a little hole in the fans, and I hate to do that since they don't have any holes, tears, etc. now.

Has anyone tried doing this before? What is the best way to do it with minimal amount of damage to both the fans and the painted wall?

    Thank you!

  • Hot Springs Honeymoon?

Do you have recommendations for honeymooning in Hot Springs? I grew up in Arkansas, so I have been to Hot Springs and Lake Hamilton, but I was a kid then. What in Hot Springs/Lake Hamilton/Lake Catherine would be attractive to a young couple? I tried doing my own research but the Hot Springs website is not the easiest to use. I am considering asking the tourism board for a visitor's guide or something.

  • Hot Springs Honeymoon?

My fiance and I were originally planning on honeymooning in South Carolina, but are now unsure if that's what we really want. We are considering Hot Springs, Arkansas. It is closer to us (we're in Springfield, MO) and would therefore be cheaper in some aspects than SC.

  • What are your nieces' & nephews' names & do you like them?

Did your siblings ask for your help or opinion when naming their kids?

    Mine are:

*Jeffrey Mitchell, Alessa Renee, & Theorie Alyssa Marie

    *Landon Thomas

    *Brantley Tylar

    *William James & Annmarie Clare

I wasn't asked my opinion or to help name them, but I like all their names. I mean, I wouldn't necessarily choose some of these myself, but I don't dislike any of them.

  • What's your top 3 favorites of Nashville?

My fiance and I are planning on driving from Springfield, MO, to Myrtle Beach, SC, for our honeymoon in early July. We would like to stop in Nashville for one night. I don't know how much time we'll spend there, but we would like to do something fun before we head back on the road, and of course we'll want to eat.

Please list your Top 3 Favorites of Nashville. They can be events, attractions, restaurants, museums, activities, places to see, bed & breakfast, etc.

    Thanks!

  • Fly or drive to honeymoon destination?

Hi, My fiance and I are in the early stages of planning. My question is should we fly or drive to our honeymoon destination? We are getting married in Springfield, MO, and honeymooning in Charleston & Myrtle Beach, SC. I always pictured us flying there to save time and give us more days at our actual destination, but my fiance suggested we drive (he did not say why). Maybe to save money? To avoid public transportation and/or rental vehicles? I'm starting to think maybe that is better--don't have to worry about over-packing or packing something "wrong" & having to throw it away...don't have to worry about luggage getting lost...more room for souvenirs...and it could turn out to be an adventure, our first road trip as a married couple. We might find some interesting stops to make along the way. What are your suggestions?

  • Mounting matted pictures on wall?

I have a bunch of photographs rubber-cemented to matboard that I did for 4-H in high school. I'm now in an apartment and would like to put these up. I am wondering what would be best for mounting these? I wanted to use Command Strips but thought that might harm the matboard. (And it is a university-owned apartment therefore the walls are like those of a dormitory...can not use tacks, nails, etc.) Thanks!

  • Should I get my half-brother a wedding gift?

Two months ago, my half-brother listed himself as In a Relationship on Facebook. One month ago he listed himself as Engaged to [his girlfriend]. At that time my aunt & I kept asking him if he was really engaged & he either would not answer or just say, "Maybe," and put a winking smiley face or something like that. He called our grandma & told her they did it as a joke to get back at someone who didn't like them. A week ago, he uploaded some pictures of him & his girlfriend that looked like engagement pictures. His status said he was very excited for the 18th. When we asked him what was to happen on the 18th, he said, "Something," with another one of those winking smileys. Now my aunt & I were very confused. If he was really engaged, why would he beat around the bush? If you were really engaged, wouldn't you be happy & want to tell people? Why keep it a secret?

The next day he left my aunt a message telling her they were getting married on Nov. 18 in a civil ceremony & having a big reception that they were inviting everyone to on the 21st. The day after that he called me...I already knew cause my aunt told me. I tried to be nice on the phone but I think it's weird!! Why was he keeping it a secret so long? No one on our dad's side of the family has ever even met her! I'm sure she's a nice, sweet girl but why get married so soon?

I can't make his reception but I will be in town later that week & my question is, should I get him & her a wedding gift? Please understand I am a poor college student (I don't have a job) & if my mom weren't paying for my gas I wouldn't even be going to visit. I am reluctant to spend money on a gift when I'm not sure they will last long, considering the strange circumstances.

Or if anyone has any suggestions of a cheap but thoughtful gift that would be nice.

  • Chicken Casserole Recipe?

Does anyone know of a chicken casserole recipe? I had this casserole at a friend's house once. I remember tasting chicken, rice, celery, and water chestnuts, and what I believe were Frosted Flakes on top. Thanks!

  • Anyone live in/around Magnolia, Ark?

I'm looking for anyone who lives in or around Magnolia, Arkansas to help me out. I live in Missouri; was born in Magnolia 19 yrs ago, and still have a lot of family there, including my father. Whenever I go to visit him we don't do anything really fun and I get very bored. He works all day so I'm basically just hangin out w/ my stepmom, cleaning house, etc. Every night consists of eating dinner and watching TV, nothing else.

So I'm looking for any ideas people have for fun things we (dad, stepmom, & I) can do, especially on weekends, in Magnolia, or maybe in surrounding cities like El Dorado, Texarkana, Shreveport, etc.

Maybe some things that could also include my extended family who live close by in Louisiana...I have grandparents, a married aunt with a 9 yr old son...or my extended family who lives in Magnolia...20 yr old half-brother, 19 yr old married stepbrother with an infant son, 13 yr old stepsister, a married uncle with two teenage daughters.

I may also be bringing my boyfriend next time, he is also 19.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Wedding etiquette help?

I have not been to a wedding in 9 years, since I was 10 years old. One of my friends is getting married on Saturday. Since this is my first wedding not as a child, and my first wedding in which the bride is my friend and not a relative, I'm not exactly sure what to do. How early do I arrive for a seat in the chapel? Appropriate dress? I also don't know what to expect of the reception...please help!
