  • Should my cold air return be placed under the heat register in my basement?

My basement is not completely finished and I want to make any changes before the project goes any further. The hear register for the basement is currently in the ceiling which is unfinished. The cold air return is directly under it at this time. Common sense leaves me to believe that this is not a good idea but thought I would see what others know. Thanks in advance.

  • Basement bathroom rough-in price?

We are considering adding an additional bathroom in our basement.

We would like to hire someone to do just the rough-in. Our basement floor is concrete slab, and we just aren't comfortable digging up the floor in search of the correct pipes. Once the pipes are roughed in, we will finish the bathroom ourselves. The new bathroom will be directly below our existing bathroom.

Any idea how much we can expect to pay for this? One guy quoted me $5,000 (over the phone) which seemed insane to me. Is this reasonable? I don't want to have a bunch of guys over for quotes and waste both of our time if the quotes are going to be that high.

    Thanks!
