  • What military insignia/patches to get for WWII?

My husband's grandfather fought in WWII. The family has lost all of his medals, patches, insignia, etc. We have his discharge papers and few odds and ends, most excitedly a pamphlet on the history and movement of his battalion. I just recently wrote to the Army and received replacement medals. Now I am looking into what patches or insignia I should try to gather up to represent his time spent in the army during WWII.

My question is what patches were actually worn on the uniforms during this time? There are so many patches out there everything from what Army to Division to Unit and I am thoroughly confused. Additionally, my husband's grandfather's unit was attached to several different divisions - I think that what these are called. Please forgive my ignorance here - during his time in service and I am not sure what I should purchase.

I guess I am asking how were distinctions made from patches/insignia? And what patches/insignia were actually used during WWII? How did things change up when units were moved and attached to different divisions? And today, what should I get to best represent this man's service in our family's history?

Any advise would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

  • Dog breed suggestions?

We're thinking of getting a dog. I want to go check out the animal shelters to find one. However, I don't have a lot of experience with dogs. I would like some suggestions for dog breeds that are low shedders and low dander emitters. Plus, we want no larger than a medium sized dog. And we would like a dog that's great with kids. And lastly, my husband wants a mellow dog.

So when I'm out looking at the shelters, I would like to know if there are any breeds that fit these specifications. Even when dealing with mix breeds, I would like to know what we are getting.

    Thanks!!

  • Alternative to spinal surgery?

My husband has been advised to have surgery on his neck for two slipped and bulging discs. He needs his neck fused. He is only 32. As you can imagine, we want to push this off as long as possible.

Do you, either from personal experience or from someone you know, have any recommendation for successful alternative treatments of bulging/slipped discs in the neck?

    Thank you!!

  • What is a good skateboard brand for a 7 yr old?

We were at Toy R US where my daughter saw a 17in skateboard - a novelty item in my opinion. She asked if she could have one, and given the $10 price tag, I said sure. I bought her some wrist guards for just in case and sent her on her way. And I didn't think anything more of it. Now, quite surprisingly, she has really taken to it. So, I now want to get her an actual skateboard to learn on. I'm pretty sure the 17in board is not appropriate for learning to skateboard, lol.

My question is what skateboard brand would be best for a 7 yr old? Are the skateboards that I can buy at Toys R US and WalMart ok? Or are they more of a hindrance for beginners?

Please keep in mind that I know NOTHING about skateboarding. Also, what size parts? And does this even really matter for a beginner?

I want to spend around $50-75. And she's 7, so it needs to have some kind of graphic art available for it.

    Thank you in advance!

  • What do you think are the similarities and differences between religion and spirituality?

I am not looking for definitions, rather I am curious about your opinion on application. Do you think they rely on each other? Or do you think that they can be mutually exclusive? Or is there a middle ground in applying them? Or is there no difference at all?

I have my own opinion, but I am interested in what you guys have to say.

  • A gift idea for a sister-in-law's 15 year anniversary?

I am not into arts and crafts and I do not have time to put together a photo album or scrapbook. I am looking for a gift I can purchase that would be appropriate for a 15 year anniversary for my sister and brother in-law (my husband's sister). I would like to stay away from gift cards.

Thanks in advance for the ideas!

  • I need a Chinese translation!?

Would anyone be willing to translate these poems into English for me?? I thank you profusely in advance!!

  • Do you Agree or Disagree?

Obama resembles Ronald Reagan more than any other president because:

    Both are/were:

    1) "fantasy figureheads" for their parties. Meaning they represent the ideal of their party for their constituents, not the reality

    2) great orators, yet neither can/could hold an unscripted debate

    3) knows/knew zip about policies

    4) the fantasy "demon" to the counter-party. Meaning that the dems demonized Reagan, just as the repubs demonize Obama. Each represent the ideal "failures" to the other party.

    5) very hands-off. They are delegators rather than doers.

There are more. But I find these the most interesting. What do you guys think?

  • How much weight did you gain during your first pregnancy?

How much weight did you gain during your first pregnancy?

How much weight gain do YOU believe is healthy?

I am personally against the 30 pound rule currently circulating through the medical field. I think women should listen to their own bodies. I find it inappropriate to assign a weight gain limit to all women. But I fully appreciate the complications associated with too much weight gain. When I was 7 months pregnant, however, my gyn told me I had try and control my weight gain. I was already eating healthy, my body was just gaining weight..... What was I suppose to do? starve myself? I felt awful about it at the time, like I was hurting my baby.

    What do you think?

I gained 80 pounds. I went from 105 to 185. I have a beautiful and healthy baby girl AND I have lost all the weight and I am currently at 107.
