Friday Baseball moves - Wells, Manny, Damon?
What's your analysis of the Blue Jays move trading Vernon Wells to the Angels, and the TB Rays signing of Damon and Manny.
4 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoWhat can we learn from the Tuscon shootings Saturday?
Understanding that we don't have anywhere close to enough information yet, what can we gleam in the way of:
1) Gun Control
2) Mental health issues
3) Security for public events
4) Surveillance of and response to online activity
I'm not looking for knee jerk political ramblings - Consider the ramifications of any changes you would believe are necessary to prevent a tragedy like this in the future.

This man was clearly guilty of 1st degree murder, yet was found guilty of a lesser crime. It is reasonable to argue that the reduced charge is related to the desensitizing effect abortion has on the value of life. Even at the time, some heralded him as a hero for what he did, (generally the same pundits who advocate abortion on demand). How do we draw the line, when life is continually downgraded.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy does winning matter?
The AL MVP is about to be announced - (not quite yet) - so I ask ahead of the announcement. How much does playing for a winning team matter for MVP.
I give 1987 as an example - George Bell wins the MVP, despite disappearing in September when it mattered most to his team, whereas Alan Trammel leads his team into the post season. Personally, I thought Trammel was robbed. It's hard to perform when it counts - which is why I believe winning matters.

6 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoHas Rush Limbaugh completely lost it?
He's on the air, defending Christine O'Donnells misinterpretation of the 1st Amendment. I know he's always been a right wing apologist, but even by the greatest standards, I think his credibility is getting stretched pretty thin on this.
Is there really any debate on whether the 1st amendment separates Church from State?

4 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoWhat has happened to Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Expression?
Just listening to a CBC program about student protesters. Here's a summary of events at Carlton University:
1) Anti-abortion group wants to stage protest, including displays of photos of aborted fetuses.
2) They were denied permission to protest in public - they were offered a "room" in a back corner of the university.
3) The students were arrested when they protested in the public quad of university. The students are tuition paying students at Carleton University - not imports.
Why should these students be denied their right to organize and protest, when Planned Parenthood has free access to all students; and groups such as PETA use graphic images constantly in their protests, without retribution or censure.
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCNN Report today about that US Knowledge of religion is sorely lacking - except for atheists. What's your?

Note: on their little subquiz - I went 8 for 10 - but I have to imagine these were 10 of the easier questions.

and euthanasia to be "dignified" rights?
The inverse question is equally valid - for those who would condemn abortion and euthanasia yet stand ready to pull the switch.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhat "fun" do Christians miss out on due to being Christian?
A common theme from the anti-theist crowd is that (paraphrased), "I'll live my life and have fun and not worry about the fairy in the sky". So, what fun are Christian's (or those of other faiths) missing? I'm currently a "seeker", not a Christian, so it would be helpful to know.
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is it so important to atheists that theists support evolution?
I understand the need to teach evolution in science class. But why is it so important to you here, to demean anyone that doesn't support the theory? How does it affect your life in any way?
27 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSituational Question: You are an atheist science teacher, studying evolution. A young student?
asks, "Didn't God create all living things?" (Assume the student is grade 4-8 age range).
How do you answer the student? Is you answer different if you're a Christian?

I've seen it quoted a number of times in atheist answers, and I have to admit ignorance. I have never heard that particular phrase.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do Liberals support the Long Gun (rifle & shot gun) registry in Canada?
I don't see the benefits of it - supporters claim it makes police safer. How? If they look me up and I don't have a gun registered, do they approach my dwelling without their vests? If I have a gun registered, do they just come in guns blazing? Police may be safer, but the public isn't. How does harassing law abiding hunters and target shooters helpful to society?

36 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWould a strong church community saved the brother?
There was a story on the CBC yesterday about 2 brothers - a 59 year old caregiver, and his younger Down's syndrome brother. The caregiver died (natural causes) and subsequently, the younger brother starved to death. If the church community were functioning properly, would it have made a difference. And how do atheists provide support to these people?
