how to simplify e^(x + 2ln(x))?
I've been doing some log stuff, using the rule that:
e^(a*ln(b)) = b^a but somehow having another x in there makes it difficult. Can someone show me the steps?
Thanks!
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoMath Reversed GCD Problem?
So I came across the Euclidean algorithm (GCD) recently and apparently, it can be used to solve a question like this:
Find possible values for "m" and "n", such that:
143m + 437n = 1 where n,m are integers
Now I understand that the GCD of 143 and 437 is 1, which means that both the LHS and RHS are divisible by 1, allowing for at least one solution. Additionally, I do know that one can revert the GCD algorithm to find the next fitting solution, but I'm just a bit baffled by the steps.
Could someone explain them or give me a link?
Thanks!
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoSo what does she want?
I know that's a pretty common question with no definite answer, but I figured every opinion is better than none at all, so please do tell what you think. As such, here's the background story:
I'm 19 and I recently started clubbing when I got into university and as such, met a lot of different girls of varying attractiveness and inebriation. One of the more interesting ones I met at an "under-the-sea" (beach themed party), on the dance floor. I was dancing with some people (of which I knew some) and she walked up, dressed in nothing more than a bikini and started dancing in front of me at a meter's distance. That seemed like quite an obvious invitation and she was very pretty and I considered getting things going with her. As such, I was slowly moving closer, focusing on her, but then suddenly her friend (I significantly less pretty girl), took her arm and dragged her away. She (the pretty one) looked back at me, waved and vanished. That left me somewhat confused and I started asking myself things like:
"Did I take too long?", but it had been less than 5 minutes and I'm not really the ruthless sort that fondles everything with boobs and hips on sight.
"Should I have followed her?", in the instance that this was some sort of cat and mouse game, but that seemed a bit far-fetched to me.
Anyway, it became all the more interesting when I suddenly met the same girl (with her friend) a night later outside another club. There, she came up from no-where, hugged me, said she was going to dance and by the time I had grasped who the hell she was, had vanished off into the club. I figured that was an obvious sign that I should follow, but I was in the middle of a waiting line to deposit my stuff in addition to talking to my friends. As such, it was a matter of priorities and it seemed unrealistic to follow a girl (that I barely knew) onto a dance floor of 200+ people with absolutely no likelihood of easily finding her. Given those options, I stayed with my friends and 5 minutes later went onto the dance floor, keeping an eye out for her, but she was no-where to be seen.
Well that is why I wonder what she wants. If she just intended to get hooked up or get to know me better, it would have been significantly easier to just stay and give me her number or at least her name. Chances are, she does like me and she simply wants to mess with my head, but I would in any case, like to hear your opinions, girls/guys.
Thanks!
2 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years agoExpanding A WLAN with another router?
I apologise if this is a repetitive problem for which there are plenty of guides on the web. My question as such, concerns itself more with a specific step and that is the connection of the two routers. I already modified turned off the DHCP of the 2nd router, changed it's IP and given it the same SSID and password as the 1st router, so there should not be any configuration left to do. However, for the last step (connecting them to each other) do I have to use an ethernet cable and maintain this connection for the regular use (after the configuration)?
The problem I have is that these routers are a respectable 50m apart and that I don't have an ethernet cable long enough. So am I wondering whether the two routers need to be connected via ethernet or whether some wireless communication protocol between them is enough?
Thanks in advance.
2 AnswersComputer Networking9 years agoEntropy & Gravity - How do they work together?
So I've been reading a little on entropy and it appears that within a closed system the entropy (measure of disorder) can only stay constant or increase. I would say, that this in most cases is most applicable when considering the efficiency of power plants, engines and otherwise, but I do wonder about larger objects such as stars.
To my knowledge, stars are formed over a lengthy process in which "dust clouds" or floating around particles in space begin to be gravitationally attract each other at increasing rates, until a certain space is dense enough for a protostar to be born. While that is an oversimplification, my main point in this is the entropy of the process.
As such my questions (after the long read) are:
1. Wouldn't the entropy be lower after the star is formed, as the more "disordered" clouds form into an "ordered" star?
2. Also, couldn't one generally say, that strong gravitational (and likely magnetic, but I haven't given that too much thought yet) forces oppose entropy?
Any corrections, proofs or laws are appreciated.
Thanks!
2 AnswersPhysics9 years agoThermal energy & kinetic energy: how do they work together?
I apologise if that is an over-asked question, but I've been thinking about a physical example that uses both kinetic and thermal (or micro-kinetic) energy, but am unsure about the outcome.
Example:
When you use a spoon to stir a cup of hot tea, it cools more quickly. In regard of that, I'm wondering why the stirring motion does not actually add to the already present kinetics in the particles or is the "net friction" (resulting from the spoon hitting the particles), as such, too minimal? Also, is the loss of temperature quicker because the particles in the tea have a varying temperature (a lower one at the edge/top of the cup, due to conduction/convection) and the stirring allows a quicker equilibrium to be achieved?
Any ideas, models, laws (preferably with a link) are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
3 AnswersPhysics9 years agoWhy do people build cars that can go way above the speed limit?
In my country and in most others in Europe, the official top speed on a highway is 120 km/h (75 mph), but there's cars out there that can go to 250 km/h (155 mph) and even 300 km/h (186 mph). While I do understand that some driving conditions, such as overtaking or a completely empty road, will allow you to go way faster (even if it is against the law), it seems absurd to build expensive engines that nobody will be able to make use of.
Also why do governments even allow the use of such cars as they clearly can only contribute the rate of accidents?
Any ideas?
4 AnswersSafety9 years agoCan people imagine being sexually abused in the past?
Advance apologies for the tastelessness of my question, in particular to those who actually have been abused. However, to explain why I'm asking, I once had a girlfriend who apparently had experienced sexual abuse when she was at day care (I'm guessing 3-4 years old). Without going into the details, it was nothing sexually extreme and at that age your body shouldn't even have developed far enough for it to mean anything to you, so why remember?
I personally think she imagined it (or blatantly lied), but I'd like to know what you people think/if you have stories of your own of such people.
1 AnswerPsychology9 years agoFeeling Weak After Sleep?
I'm 19 and I sleep for 8-10 hours and normally have a pretty nice sleep with the occasional dream. However, lately I feel physically drained after I sleep. Basically, my muscles and joints ache as if they have been undernourished and I sometimes have trouble moving out of my bed. I'm not an anorexic and I eat 3-4 meals a day (I have tea time too), have a reasonable metabolism and exercise 1-2 times a week, so I'm not really sure what to make of it.
I did notice having particularly vivid dreams (not positively or negatively, just with heightened senses) and I'm wondering whether that drains more energy from me, but it is just a speculation.
Does anyone have any ideas/experiences?
Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness9 years agoWhen someone is spoiled, whom would you consider at fault?
I pondered this due to making some personal experiences and would like to hear some other people's thoughts.
---Scenario---
Say person A and B are in a relationship (any kind). As time passes, person A spoils person B and they are both consciously aware of this happening. Then, the relationship collapses because A cannot meet B's demands anymore.
Now my question is whom would you consider to be at fault? Person A, for spoiling them or Person B for not preventing it?
It would be easy to say both, but I would like if you picked a side and stated why.
Thanks =)
5 AnswersCommunity Service9 years agoHow would you handle your ex girlfriend if she has the same friends as you?
I am 19 and we used to go to the same high school. We've broken up a couple months ago, but we have the same group of friends (I don't consider leaving the group an option as I've known some for over 10 years), so at some stages we inevitably meet. Initially, I avoided her for a large part, but I've come to accept that she will be around for a long time so I might as well get used to her.
Wishing to take a step towards that, I met her along with some of my friends today, but she seemed a bit hostile, never saying hello or good bye, always sitting the furthest away from me and generally ignoring me for a good part. Also, being a little edgy and nervous myself, I was not the epitome of kindness either.
In the end I'm not sure what to make of it and I haven't found any real advice on this sort of matter (and it can't be that rare can it?), so I'd be grateful if someone of more experience could tell me how to handle this.
Thanks in advance!
