  • Biology Question (My professor is a JERK, please please help!!!)?

Where is energy found in nutrients (which are chemical compounds) to allow the cell to produce ATP? One or two words, spell them correctly, and don't include any other words or punctuation.

This is all we were given. The answer is a fill-in-the-blank. I have already tried the following answers and the computer listed them all wrong (you can take this quiz as many times as you want):

    NADH

    Hydrogen Electrons

    Protein

    nucleoside

    Cytoplasm

    Pyruvate

    Catabolic Pathways

    Mitochondria

    covalent bonds

If you can give me any other answer that makes sense and especially if you could explain to me how and why I have not gotten the right answer yet, that would be great. If you feel my prof. is a jerk like I do and that he worded this question poorly, that will also be appreciated.

She wants to be able to listen to air and ground traffic at the international airport, but would also like to be able to receive Police, Fire, Medics, etc... I have absolutely no clue if the scanner I'm looking at would be able to receive Air and Police. Does anyone have any advice?

  • Mile High Club (Specific Rules???)?

Ok... I'm trying here folks. My wife and I have decided to try for the club. Both of us are pilots, which gives us a major advantage in all sorts of ways. However, single engine cessna's aren't exactly ideal for this with just 2 people in the aircraft. We went up the other day and made a "good faith effort" and want to know what the criteria really is. Here are our questions, please answer each of them if you can separately:

1.) We were flying at only about 2,000 AGL instead of 1 full mile. Do we ABSOLUTELY have to be over a mile up? Why? Same diff, right??? Would that disqualify someone in an airline bathroom if the plane was landing at the time? I mean... come on???

2.) Does the couple have to actually engage in penetrated intercourse? That's a REAL challenge in our situation and could be dangerous.

3.) What qualifies you? Does the man have to complete? Women? Or just occur?

4.) Do other forms of sexual activity count?

5.) Can't the man simply complete in whatever way is necessary and call it good?

6.) So if I "completed" but there was no intercourse, but other commonly accepted sexual touching/acts occurred, would that count?

    WE NEED SPECIFICS PEOPLE!!!

I know this is only a fantasy club anyway, but we do want to qualify. We should get at least "Associate Member" status for our efforts, but what's the real deal?

  • Revolutionary War / War of 1812?

Wasn't there some raid conducted during one of these wars by American's on England? I remember something about a small raiding party of 20 or so American's that stole some goods, maybe took a captive or two and blew up something on the British Mainland and it caused quite a fright. Can anyone help me with more information or a link?

  • MARVEL COMICS - TRANSFORMERS, Technical Question?

I have a complete set of Transformers (Original 1984, etc...) comics issues 1-80. I've always been interested in how much they are worth and I didn't realize there have been reprints of these comics and some are worth considerably less than others. As I have just sorted through them I can tell some differences between issues because I have 2-3 copies of most of the issues. My biggest problem is figuring it how to tell which is a first print and which is a 2nd print. Any help?

  • What would have changed if Hitler had sufficient fuel supplies?

As always, I'm looking for answers with as many specifics as possible. In my research of WW2, I've learned that above all else, what stopped the military machine of Nazi Germany was a lack of coal and oil/fuel, etc... So if you have information or an educated guess of what the differences would be, please share it. The scenario is... Hitler was able to acquire what amounts to a limitless supply of oil/coal somehow so that whatever needs he might have would easily been met and even bombing of fuel supplies doesn't deprive him of the resource beyond logistical issues.

  • Re: Nazi's and the Third Reich. What was good about them?

We've all heard all the negatives about Hitler and the Nazi's. But I want to hear how they were good, positive and/or successful in civil government. I don't want ignorant responses or opinions about how evil they were, because that's not what I'm asking about.

I don't accept that there were no positive qualities about the Third Reich or that they did not have some kind of positive plans for Europe and whatever areas they controlled once the war was over. And I'm not necessarily looking for the Aryan Utopia either.

I've seen many other great world leaders get slandered by history after they're time had passed like Napoleon. But Napoleon was a great man who did an incredible amount for almost everyone under his rule. He was loved by most of the people, made important reforms wherever he went, established schools, stabilized the French economy, etc...

So I want to hear from people who have that kind of information about the Nazi's which show how they either were or would have changed things for the positive if they had won. You can add commentary about negative things along with that, but if you don't have anything positive to say, then please don't bother answering this question.

  • My 71 year old father needs a new PC game to play. I'm looking for recommendations.?

Specifically, I want to give him some kind of "Sim City" game, but I'm not sure if its too complicated for him. He has enjoyed playing "Farmville" on facebook and I think he would do well creating his own little world. Graphics are not the most important, playability is. So I'm looking for reasonable recommendations for games that a 71 year old man could play that have similar features to Sim City. If you feel a particular version of SC is good, then that would be fine to. Any descriptions of what it would be good for him would be appreciated.

  • What kinds of Torture are/have American POW's been subjected to in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Specifically... though gruesome to hear, I would like to know if anyone has very specific information on the types of torture that has been used against US or allied servicemen/women in the current Iraq war/occupation and Afghanistan as well. I've heard a lot of rumors, but I want to hear from people who know directly. If you have information on the numbers of people subjected to these tortures, that would be great as well. Despite the public nature... please be as specific and graphic as possible as I am not looking for generalities.

  • Rental law in the State of Washington...?

I do a lot of Pro Se stuff for myself and others, but I don't know much about rental law. I have a friend who was just given notice by their landlord that their lease would not be renewed. He has been a resident for 7 years. The past 2 months a new neighbor moved in and started complaining about everything possible. The lease expired at the end of April, but they were suppose to get him a copy of the new lease to sign before the end of the month. They told him the lease wasn't ready yet and finally today (May 7th) he got a 20-day notice that they were not going to renew it and gave no cause. Does he have any recourse? I know if NYC there are strict rental laws, but I have no idea what they are here. Can anyone give some advice or take a guess as to any law that state what the deal is either way? Any recourse?

  • Apple Cobbler question?

I just bought some Louisiana Cobbler Mix. I also bought several pie crust mixes. I need to know if the cobbler mix is suppose to enhance the fruit filling or is meant to be the crust. The wording on the package is not helpful to me in this regard.

Also... if you have any recommendations for making the cobbler... I'm going to be camping and making it on an open fire with cast iron stuff. I have large skillets as well as dutch ovens.

  • Was McClellan a closet Confederate?

For those of you who have studied the American Civil War indepth, you know well how incredibly gifted McClellan was at organization and logistics and how utterly poor he did on the battlefield. He seemed to be completely predictable (in other words, he will always retreat). He failed to take easy objectives for long periods of time. He refused to send it reserves at critical points. He would exaggerate the enemy strength, while under-estimating his own forces potential. He basically sat on his rear in DC for as long as Lincoln would let him do it. He even delayed when on campaign. He railed against Lincoln constantly and even ran against him in the 1964 presidential election and was the favorite to win at one point. He was known to be a vehement anti-abolitionist, pro-slavery supporter.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I ask those of you who may know more about this man...

... is it possible, that McClellan was actual a closet confederate and did his best to help the Confederacy by being in charge of a large Union force and refusing to use it. Refusing to exploit battlefield opportunities. Refusing to be effective and always retreating, giving the Confederates as much time as possible to somehow end the war on their own?

Please answer if you think its possible and then explain your answer. Give supporting reasons. If you don't think its possible, also please justify that position as well.

  • Re: The Rape of Nanking... Japanese inhumanity?

Ok... first of all, this is not meant to reflect any racist attitude towards Japanese people. However, it is a question in regards to the cultural and social factors that went into an event that is among the most infamous, if not THE most infamous in known world history.

Only posters with knowledge on the subject matter please!

    1. The acts committed during the Japanese attacks on China in 1937 and 1938, continuing until the end of the war were so heinous as to make the German atrocities seem mild by comparison. I am asking for an indepth assessment of how humans (the soldiers) could possibly commit, EN MASSE, the types of atrocities that occurred by the 100,000's.

    2. In reviewing some of the comments by eye-witnesses on the Japanese side, I found it very 'telling' that they said the Japanese soldiers were treated women and children and babies as if they were dogs and cats for pleasure. This is a profound statement to me, as I believe treating cats and dogs like that would have been unspeakably inhumane. I know many Japanese and Chinese on a very deep and personal level and I have always felt that many "Asian's" in general have far less respect for animal life than we do in western culture. For instance, Japanese will hold cooking contests to see who can make the best food out of LIVE fish and they will eat it while its living, being only partially cooked and aired on live TV. Chinese are known to brutally kill dogs to eat, claiming that a violent death makes the meat taste better. ***** So in your opinion, how does the treatment of animals in these cultures contribute to an attitude or willingness that could result in the types of atrocities being discussed here? To me, if you are treating animals this way at home, you weren't far from treating other humans this way during war. Agree or disagree?

    3. I have heard a lot of people say that Japanese civilians should not be blamed for what the soldiers did in China. But I can't help but hold those who raised those soldiers somewhat responsible for a child who grows up and is able or willing to commit those atrocities. I know many things have happened throughout history and even still happen, but on the scale it happened in China and with mass participation, it would appear that this case is exceptional. I can not imagine any western soldiers from any country, EN MASSE, doing the things that were being done in Nanking. Bad things, similar in some cases, YES! I know they have happened. But Nanking was extreme beyond reckoning.

    4. Did American's and western society get realistic descriptions of THE WORST of what was happening in Nanking at the time, or did we learn later? If not, was it kept from us?

    5. Finally, if the Japanese has succeeded in holding us off long enough to be defeated at some point... do you believe the Japanese would have made a lasting and real peace with the Germans or would they have still intended on conquoring them as well at some point?

  • The Rape of Nanking! Questions...?

OMG!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!! I had seen a little bit about the Rape of Nanking a long time ago on a history channel program or something. But I just got done watching a documentary specifically about the atrocities committed by the Japanese during the 1937 invasion of China, the Rape of Nanking and general atrocities committed in China.

I had NO IDEA it was that bad. I think the Japanese treatment of the chinese made the Nazi treatment of the Jews look merciful and humane, if that is possible.

I do not want responses from people who have no knowledge of what I am asking.

My questions are, if you can answer them:

    1. Explain to me how the Japanese are not souless monsters who deserved 100 more atomic bombs in the light of the atrocities committed in China?

    2. Explain to me how the average soldier in the Japanese army was so inhuman and inhumane as to do what they did in China?

    3. Explain how the Chinese do not intend to obliterate Japan at the first chance they get once they are the main superpower of the World, if we somehow get sidelined in America?

    4. Is there ANY justification or cause for the treatment of the Chinese this way? Did they commit any atrocities against the Japanese to start this?

    5. Have the Japanese every apologies or made some kind of reparation to the Chinese for these atrocities? What kind of monuments do the Chinese have for this? What is the Chinese view of this?

  • Will America be plunged into a depression as big as or worse than the Great depression in the next 3 years?

If you think it will take 5 years or 10, then go with that, but I specifically want peoples opinions about how bad its going to get and how soon these various stages will occur. Be as specific as possible as to "how bad" it will get and how it will get like that.

  • What if Jubal Early had attacked sooner in July of 1864?

Specifics: In July of 1864 Jubal Early attacked Washington D.C. primarily at Fort Stevens. He delayed attacking until the afternoon as some of his troops were drunk, all were exhausted and he didn't know the Union strength. A morning attack would have resulted in fewer "green" troops and recovering soldiers or non-combat soldiers manning the breast works. Reinforcements (veterans) sent by Grant did not arrive into the fight until the afternoon just after Early began to engage.

My question is... had he pushed forward in the morning as he had planned:

    A. Would he have been able to take the fort?

    B. If so, what else would he have had to face before "taking Washington"

    C. Could he have "taken Washington"?

    D. Could he have held it for any period of time?

    E. Would the North have given up at that point?

    F. If not, how would have that impacted the war? (ie.. Grant's total withdrawal from Virginia... Lincoln loosing the election for certain?)

  • If Stonewall Jackson had lived?

Specifically... what changes to the war would the survival of Stonewall Jackson had (assuming he had not been shot at all). There are many speculations about changes during Gettysburg, but the war would have continued despite a confederate win at Gettysburg. So my question (long or short explanation) is what would the American Civil War played out, look like, had Stonewall Jackson went unscathed until the end of the war.
