  • My cat has a broken tail and...?

It happened last Sunday, I have no idea how, since she is an indoor cat. But anyway, we took her to the vet and he splinted it and bandaged and it is coming along ok. But today, nearly a week later, I've noticed the splint and bandage have actually slid down her tail so they are no longer protecting the break. We paid 350$ to have this done and certainly can't afford to have it redone every few days! We go in again tomorrow so the vet can check on her progress (it's a free check up type thing). But it's obvious to me that the splint is doing nothing now, and to be honest I'm pretty mad because of how much it cost us to have it done. Has anyone dealt with this before and done their own splint? She doesn't seem in pain anymore and can lift her tail fairly well, but I can feel the break, like a crooked lump in her tail.

  • Our Home inspection won't send us a report?

We had a home inspection done 3 weeks ago and were told at the time that the report wont be send via email within 5 days. We paid on site via cheque. We've still not received a report. My husband has been in contact with the inspector/company via email and phone. our real estate agent (who recommended this inspector) has also been in contact via phone. We've not received anything at all! what should we do?

We are in Ontario Canada, if that matters.

  • Short femur in fetus at 19wk ultrasound?

I just got results back from my 19wk prenatal ultrasound and they want me back for a follow up. Turns out they didn't get an image of the baby's stomach and also her femur seems to be lagging by about 2 weeks. (Anyway, they want to re-evaluate the limb lengths and try for a photo of the stomach (if she is in a better position- so I go back next week) My doctor wouldn't tell me what this could mean, so obviously I looked into it and now I am freaking out because short femurs are a marker for Down's syndrome. When I mentioned Down's to my doctor he was ADAMANT that this had nothing to do with Down's, so did he flat out lie to me? Or did he mean in MY CASE it was not DS related? Everything else appeared normal on the scan, my doctor seemed to think that our due date might just be a bit off. I am so stressed and peeved, why are doctor's not honest? Anyone with similar ultrasound results that came out ok?

  • Does my sneezing cat need to see a vet?

My 3 year old cat has been sneezing intermittently for the past 5 days or so. I have checked and the mucous is clear and very runny, like saliva. He is eating well, drinking well, and as playful as ever. Does he need to see a vet for this or is it a simple bug that will pass?

  • How can I help my cat lose weight?

I have a 2 1/2 yr old male neutered cat. he weighed 12 lbs when I got him (he is a LARGE cat, and was at a perfect weight when I first adopted him at 1 yr. One year later at his vet appointment he weighed 16 lbs! which I know is very overweight. About 6 months after I got him I noticed he was gaining weight so I switched him to a food for overweight/inactive cats. he eats about 3/4 cup of dry food each day. We were told by the vet NOT to feed him any less. He is very playful and has lots of toys that he likes to throw around and chase. He also likes to wind my yarn all around the house! I was told by the vet to try switching him to wet food because it has a high water content, so he gets more food with less calories. I tried several times but he WONT eat wet food. Won't even try it. It was also recommended that I put food upstairs so he has to get some excercise just to get to his food but we don't have an upstairs in the apartment we are currently living in. help?

  • Is my cat sick?

I recently got a kitten, I have had her for about a week and she has been checked by a vet, she is healthy. My older cat seems to be a little under the weather since we got the kitten. They play and seem to like each other, but my older cat has been eating less (but still eating) and he has thrown up 3 times in the last few days. Now, I know that cats throw up pretty frequently, usually for almost no reason, but I am a little worried about him anyway. I have been watching him closely and working extra hard to make him feel cared for. He has no other odd symptoms, bowel movements and urine are normal, playful, sleeping well, still loving with my husband and I. Could he be feeling stressed out by the kitten? Or depressed? Or does this sound serious? I'm not sure if I'm reading too much into this.

  • I need a website that teaches Crochet?

I am a fairly good knitter but am trying to learn to crochet. I know how to do simple things like chaining and single crochet from when I was a kid, but I am clueless on reading the patterns and on doing anything complicated. Does anyone know of a good website or book that teaches the basics and more when it comes to crochet?

  • How old should a kitten be?

When he/she is taken to its new home. I have read that the proper age is 6-8 weeks, and the family I am getting a kitten from has told me the same, but some people on here have said that a kitten should be 3-4 months old. What is the correct age?

  • I'm worried about my cat catching something?

I have a 2 yr old cat, his last vaccines were given in August '07. At the end on January I am getting a 6 week old kitten from a friend whose family cat recently had kittens. I am wondering if my vaccinated cat can catch anything serious (besides fleas) from the kitten. Also, at what age is a kitten vaccinated? I am new to raising a kitten, as I got my cat when he was already full grown. I am most worried about FIV, but I'm pretty sure my cat was vaccinated against it.

  • I am getting a kitten!?

I already have a beautiful all-white 2 1/2 year old feline but we have decided to get a kitten both as a playmate for him and a companion for ourselves. the problem is that I know nothing about caring for a kitten. We got our other cat when he was 1 year old and already full grown. Can someone clue me in about what I need to do to make sure my new kitty will make a safe and happy transition into our family? ps- my ols roommate had a cat also so I know that my cat is not opposed to being around other cats. he is playful and loving.

  • I have a discharge BEFORE my period?

Is it common to have an odourless, thickish white discharge BEFORE your period? I know that following a period it is, but my period is due in about 4-6 days and I have been having this discharge for a day or 2. I have no pain or other abnormalities and have had this before but not recently. ?

  • My fiance has been offered a teaching job on a Native reserve in Northern Ontario?

at first I was excited about the opportunity to accompany him, but the more I research the reserve, the more apprehensive I become about it. it is very isolated and has only a general store. there are other non-natives on the reserve but from what I can find about it, they are mostly older adults. (we are in our early 20's). Suddenly the idea of uprooting myself and living in utter isolation for an entire year is terrifying. Does anyone have experience with living on a reserve? What can I expect? DId you enjoy your experience there?

  • sorry, I know this sounds really gross but...?

I need to know if this is something I should go to the emergency room about. I went to the bathroom about 20 minutes ago and noticed a few spots of blood coming from my anus NOT a period, I checked carefully. When I pushed a little. some blood dripped into the toilet and a clot came out. I just want to know if this warrants a trip to the emergency room tonight or if I should make a doctors appointment tomorrow instead? I'm newly living on my own in a new town and don't have anyone to ask about this

  • wearing briefs?

I'm wondering about the whole lower sperm count in men that wear breifs. I understand that it has to do with body heat but is it reversible and how much of a difference it there between a man that wears boxers and a man that wears briefs? I want kids someday soon, my fiance wears briefs because he's very active, usually wearing shorts from about April until October, and he teaches phys-ed at a highschool and just finds boxers uncomfortable for his lifestyle. I keep trying to get him to wear boxers but it doesn't work. anyone have any info?
